Rumour: Microsoft To Buy Nokia’s Handset Unit
2011-05-17 09:30:00 Hot on the heels of the news about Nokia showing ditching Ovi as a brand, here is some more news for all you Tech junkies. Eldar Murtazin, Editor of Mobile Review who had predicted the Nokia-Microsoft Windows Phone deal back in December 2010 has come up with a new post on his personal blog firing up a new rumour. According to this post Microsoft will buy Nokia’s handset manufacturing unit by the end of 2011. If this rumour turns out to be true it would put Microsoft in the league of companies like Apple and Blackberry who completely control the whole experience of their phones, hardware as well as software. Along with Xbox and Kinnect, Microsoft will add phones to its hardware division. This would mean better software updates for Windows Phones more control of Microsoft over their devices and all of this leading to a better and consistent experience for the end user. If this goes through Microsoft would end up paying as much as $30 billion easily surpassing the $8.5 billion ...

Airtel Joins Hands ith Handset Manufacturers to Launch 100$ 3G Handsets
2011-04-06 09:05:00 Airtel is in talks with major mobile handset manufacturers to launch the 3G-enabled handsets below the price of $100 or Rs. 4500. The penetration of 3G-enabled handsets is currently very low in India. The 3G spectrum was auctioned few months ago and after that many telecom operators have launched their 3G services. But, the growth of 3G has been hindered because of high prices of 3G-enabled mobile handsets. “We see that it (price) is a barrier to the spread of 3G. We think that by bringing it down, we could give a boost to the spread of 3G. We further foresee a breakthrough when it breaches the $50-mark,” Mr Atul Mohan Bindal, President (Mobile Services), Airtel, told Business Line. However, he refused to divulge the names of the companies it was talking to. Airtel, which launched 3G services last month, has 20 lakh subscribers in the third-generation telecom network. In the 3G auction, Airtel has received spectrum in 13 circles out of the 22. It has launched services in Delhi...

Bharti Takes On Nokia & Micromax – Enters Low End Handset Busines
2010-09-20 07:46:00 You know a market is hot when the country’s largest telecom player chooses to enter it. We have blogged about earlier on how the low end handset market is becoming interesting with Indian players like micromax, maxx, lava, GVL and others taking a piece out of the nokia pie. Now it seems this growth has caught the fancy of the telco giant Bharti which has decided to launch itself into this business via a subsidiary company Beetel. Group firm Beetel has launched eight handsets in the range starting from 1700 to 7000. The reason for this move can be attributed to the healthy growth of 30% that mobile phones in the range of Rs.2-6K are seeing in India. Over 130 million handsets are being sold in India each year and that is as good as it gets for most growth markets for this product. On Bundling & Operator relationships Now telecom business is pretty competitive and thats no secret with the rates falling lower each second. It will be interesting how Airtel tackles the issue ...

Mobile Handset Makers Hold the Key to Social Media on Mobile – Forres
2009-08-12 05:36:00 In a new report, Forrester suggests that social media websites and mobile handset makers will need to work more closely to make social media consumption better on mobiles. This point takes the responsibility of better engagement away from the sole shoulders of web/mobile publishers and provides a more holistic approach. The report essentially is on how mobile will change social computing being the 24×7 device. Mobile phones’ convenience, improving cameras and location awareness will make the mobile phone the dominant media creation device of the future, states the report. Only handset makers are able to deliver all five social mobile communication experiences due to the tight integration necessary with a phone’s core communication features, such as voice, SMS, and address book. Nokia Handset Concept By Heikki Juvonen
2008-11-11 20:46:00 “Product design should be user-orientated. Good ergonomics, usability, user interface, looks and materials should come standard." - So says Heikki Juvonen, designer of this Nokia concept mobile phone. Whilst Juvonen might well uphold this stance as his work ethic, his attitude is to let technology hang in the balance. That's literally speaking, of course, as this compact handset allows for the bulk workings to rest at the bottom, making for a still-mini yet aesthetically pleasingly chunky design which is high on user-friendly ergonomics, as promised.Visit Heikki Juvonen online at www.heikkijuvonen.com Via: Design Launches Read More
