The Hank Williams Jr. Experience
2008-10-29 16:25:00 I know very little about Hank Williams Jr., but I like him for two main reasons. First, the Monday Night Football theme based on his song "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" is an incredible, pump-you-up song. Second, Williams is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. These may be shallow reasons to like Hank Williams Jr., but that works for me.However, I?m starting to get a little worried about Williams. He sang the national anthem during the Monday night game this week while wearing a Tennessee Titans jersey. I can?t say that I agree with him wearing a jersey other than a Steelers one, but I guess that he wanted to make a good impression for everyone in Nashville (even though you would think he would already be well received by Tennessee fans based on Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year awards and the Monday Night Football song). Unfortunately, this seems to be a trend for Williams. In the video below, Williams is shown wearing a Denver Broncos jersey and a Was...

2008-08-12 19:22:00 AP - Don Helms, a renowned steel guitarist who played in Hank Williams' Drifting Cowboys band and on country classics by Patsy Cline and Lefty Frizzell, has died of an apparent heart attack. He was 81.

2008-05-26 17:21:00 Time Life plans to periodically release 143 previously-unreleased Hank Williams‘ recordings over a three year period. Time-Life Releasing 143 Radio Performances by Hank Williams Performances
2008-05-25 23:56:00 Time-Life has entered into an exclusive deal with Hank Williams, Jr. and Jett Williams to release 143 recordings by the late-Hank Williams that have not been heard in over 57 years. The recordings are from a daily radio program that Williams hosted in 1951. The recordings of 72 of those shows have been preserved and provide a previously unheard (unless you lived in mid-Tennessee at the time) look into Williams and his band. He is heard joking with the band and talking about music, along with performing his own hits and over forty songs that have never been available by Williams commercially. The sound quality on the recordings is said to be close to that from a studio. Release is expected to start this fall and last for three years.Mike Jason, Senior Vice President of Time-Life, said "This is truly a unique moment in music history. Finding these once-in-a-lifetime recordings is comparable to discovering a closet full of unreleased Beatles' or Elvis Presley songs."Williams' daugh...
Songwriters: Who?s Your Favorite Unsung Hero?
2008-05-24 18:30:00 Without songwriters, we wouldn’t have any songs, but they hardly receive the recognition they deserve for the contributions they make. We have the greats that are obvious like Harlan Howard, Cindy Walker, and even Hank Williams that are hard to pass up–and they really aren’t all that lacking in the accolades–so let’s limit this to ...

Eric Church - ?His Kind Of Money (My Kind Of Love)?
2008-04-01 21:18:00 “His Kind Of Money (My Kind Of Love)” is the first single from Eric Church’s upcoming sophomore album. It’s a good song, not as transcendent as Church would have you believe, but still good, nonetheless, maybe even really good. Although the song is worth a few spins, it isn’t without it’s faults. Hank Williams’ ...
Dolly Parton To Take Her Hits To American Idol Tomorrow Night
2008-03-31 16:59:00 Dolly Parton will be the first of four superstar guest mentors on American Idol this year. Her stint as mentor begins tomorrow night when contestants will choose from her catalog for their performances, but don’t expect her to be too critical. “Even the bad (singers) are just as sincere as the good ones,” Parton said. ...
Stop Cutting Hits: The Story of Lefty Frizzell?s ?Long Black Veil?
2008-03-12 19:29:00 Lefty Frizzell rivaled and might have been bigger than Hank Williams in 1951, placing four songs in the top ten at the same time, a feat that’s never been matched. Like Williams, he led a turbulent life, mostly due to his own bad habits, but it was his friend Hank who was immortalized by an ...

Vince Vaughn: Honky Tonk Man
2008-02-26 17:45:00 I knew there was a reason I liked Vince Vaughn, aside from his fast-talking, used-car salesmanesque humor and wit. His twelve-song celebrity playlist on iTunes has a couple of songs apiece from Dwight Yoakam, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard and then he throws in a Hank Williams and Buck Owens duet with Yoakam ...

Great Topic
2007-08-29 19:05:00 There’s a discussion going on MusicCityBloggers about the saddest country songs ever. A lot of the people commenting are obviously pretty new to country music, only naming songs that have been released in the last 20 years or so. To me, the list begins and ends with “I’m so Lonesome I Could Cry” by Hank ...

Hank Williams Hunting
2007-05-11 17:20:00 Enough of this Vegan nonsense. Here’s Hank Williams, Jr. on a fine morning turkey hunt in Tennessee. He can sing, but he’s a splendidly patient shot as well. The clip is very evocative of the pure adventure of the sport. And of course, of the beauty of the rural countryside in that part of the country.

Hank Williams - ?Lovesick Blues?
2007-05-07 22:08:00 On this day in 1949 Hank Williams scored his first #1 hit on the country music charts with “Lovesick Blues.” If it were up to Hank’s manager, Fred Rose, the song never would have been. The story goes something like this… It was three days before Christmas in 1948 when Hank and Audrey Williams, Fred ...
Lovesick Blues: The Life of Hank Williams
2007-04-10 18:05:00 I went to Barnes & Noble the other day to pick up a beginner’s guide to playing mandolin. The book is a biography of ...
Hank Williams Jr. - Habits, Old And New
2007-02-24 06:03:01 A typically fun Hank Williams Jr. album, ‘Habits, Old And New’ is actually not as celebratory of bad behavior as its title might suggest. For one thing, Williams’ rowdy friends are nowhere in sight. The best song is the hilarious “Dinosaur,” in which Hank wanders into a club where the band is singing about making ...

Dolly Parton Reissues Three Albums With Bonus Tracks And Hank Williams Is T
2007-01-25 16:50:06 Dolly Parton is re-releasing three of her albums from the past, only this time she’s including some previously unreleased bonus tracks on the albums. The three albums will be Coat of Many Colors, My Tennessee Mountain Home, and Jolene. Personally, I think it’s a brilliant marketing move. Parton seems to be appearing in the news regularly as of late. Maybe more artists should record tracks when they’re younger and not plan to release them until they get older, kind of like a music time machine. The only risk would be how well the songs age, will they become timeless classics or will they sound so old that people of the current generation can’t relate to them? The 25th national final for “the largest country music talent search in existence,” Colgate Country Showdown, is being held at The Ryman tonight. I wonder if any country music superstars will be discovered. I don’t know how stuff like this makes it to the news, but apparently a “Ya... |
