2008-05-13 21:30:00 Ferrari California hardtop convertible revealed Ferrari this morning released the first three photos of its new Ferrari California. The exotic grand tourer will be on display at the Paris International Car Show in October. The hardtop convertible is powered by Ferrari's 4.3-liter V8, producing 460 horsepower. It's not known if the car will be marketed as simply "Ferrari California," or as "Ferrari F430 GT California," as a recent trademark filing suggested. The all-aluminum California is the first Ferrari to feature its engine mounted in the mid-front position. The car can hit 60 mph in under 4.0 seconds, according to the Italian automaker. A new seven-speed dual clutch transmission debuts in the California, and the F1-Trac traction control system which was first offered with the 599 GTB Fiorano is also included. But take a closer look at the photos and you see that this roadster–a redesign for the Z4 that’s due out next year as a 2010 model–has a folding hardtop. Sure, the top on this prototype looks like it is made of fabric, but closer inspection shows that it looks like fabric has been put over the solid roof panels–note the cut line in the roof, near the rear window. Peering past the psychedelic coverings, the new Z4 is gaining a more muscular look and grows about 1 inch in overall length and width. The roadster runs on the same chassis as the recently launched 3 series. BMW plans to fit the new Z4 with more-powerful engines, including talk of a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six, and a diesel. 2008 Ferrari Hardtop Convertible
2007-09-22 10:55:00 Rumour has it Ferrari is to launch a 2+2 coupe-cabriolet with a folding hard-top roof at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2008. Codenamed the F149' and refered to in rumours as the 430 GT California, however it is far from a re-designed F430 Spider. The F149 is expected to be a front engined design styled by Pininfarina. As with the F430 it will have a new generation aluminium spaceframe chassis and a 450bhp version of its direct-injection 4.3 litre V8 engine. The F1 'Superfast' sequential-shift transmission will be standard with a manual gearbox as an option. as in the F430 Scuderia launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show, although manual transmission will be optional.The layout of this car is expected to have small rear seats and the usual rear wheel drive. Pricing is expected to be considerably less than the current F430 Spider at around €130,000.
