Harriet Harman

Labour MPs are thrown to the lions by Harman.
2008-05-13 11:55:00
Harriet Harman has ordered Labour MPs and Ministers to help out in the Crewe and Nantwich by-election. I bet they are chuffed about that. "What, me? Face the voters? Are you mad? they'll tear me apart. "Anyway, why do I have to go if Gordon is bottling out?"If I were a Labour MP, I'd be avoiding the public like the plague. And if I was a journalist, I'd be following them with great interest.Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device

Labour MPs are voicing their dismay over poor ministerial behaviour (Smith
2008-01-15 07:49:00
It seems that each day more and more Labour MPs are making statements to the media, that are not at all supportive of their ministers. Over the last couple of days their comments have been aimed at Jacqui Smith and Peter Hain. Keith Vaz, Labour chair of the home affairs committee, Lindsay Hoyle and Andrew Mackinlay have all made it very clear that the police pay award could have been handled better. Keith Vaz believes that the police pay award is of such importance that it should be voted on in parliament. Lindsay Hoyle has called the two stage pay deal "unacceptable and unpalatable", and Andrew Mackinlay believes the deal would not only cause "disproportionate offence to public servants" and "collateral damage" to the Labour government, but it was also "unfair". However Jacqui is not listening:"I had a responsibility to make a decision that was right for the police, for the affordability of policing and for the taxpayer as a whole." What Jacqui fails to mention is that her actions ...
Harriet Harman on Paying For It
2007-12-21 08:54:00
So, yesterday Labour MP Harriet Harman announced she’d like to make paying for sex a criminal act as a way to combat people trafficking. This is of course a fantastic idea.

Breaking wind with dignity V breaking the law without shame.
2007-12-05 12:57:00
I found a story today that sums up the way I was left feeling after watching yesterday's debate on party political funding:77-year-old Maurice Fox received a letter from Kirkham Street Sports and Social Club in Paignton, complaining about him breaking wind loudly in the public bar. Maurice may be a man of with a bad habit, but he is a man with a sense of decency. When Maurice received the letter did he complain? no. This is what Maurice said: "I am happy to oblige them, there is no problem. I do get a bit windy - I am an old fart now. "I think someone has complained about the noise. I am a loud farter, but there is no smell. "I do not think it [the letter] is unreasonable, you get ladies in there." Maurice now goes outside to fart.Compare this to the Labour party's behaviour at the commons debate for political party funding yesterday: If certain members of the cabinet had received a letter complaining about their party breaking wind in the bar, this would have been Labour's reply...
The commons debate on political party funding.
2007-12-04 18:07:00
I've been listening for about half an hour and Jack Straw has just shot himself right in the foot. In response to accusations of breaking the law, Labour have been bleating on about Lord Ashcroft's tax status. However when Jack was asked about the tax status of Labour's biggest individual donors , he said it was a matter for the Inland Revenue - CLASSIC! To make matters worse, when Jack was asked if any of the dodgy £650,000 had been paid back, he said he didn't know. Finger on the pulse Jack.UPDATE: Well the main part of the debate is over. What was clearly evident was Labour's total lack of regret. There was talk of anger and disappointment, but the majority of Labour's comments were made in an attempt to portray the Tories and LibDems as being as sleazy as themselves. What angers me the most as a voter, rather than a Conservative party member, is the way Labour ministers sit on the front bench, laughing and joking without the slightest remorse for having broken the law.Ther...
Commons debate - Scandals over the funding of the governing political party
2007-12-04 09:11:00
David Cameron has changed the subject of today's commons debate from the civil service, to one on party funding. The motion for the debate states: "This House notes with concern the corrosion of public trust in democracy following the recent succession of scandals over the funding of the governing political party." Cameron walked out on the last round of party funding talks when Labour refused to include the Unions in a proposal to cap donations to £50,000. Now for some reason (probably something to do with the police wanting to talk to several senior Labour party members) Gordon Brown wants to come back to the negotiation table, apparently willing to consider including the unions on any donation cap. That Cameron has forced today's debate is not surprising following the weekend's revelations. Peter Hain has suddenly remembered even more deputy party leadership election money that he failed to declare, and Newcastle property lawyer George Crawford has called in the police to inves...

Harriet Harman should resign NOW - Donorgate.
2007-12-01 11:03:00
Harriet Harman has now admitted to breaking Electoral rules twice. In Harriet's case there is absolutely no need for an internal review or a police investigation. Harriet Harman IS GUILTY, and the fact she has not resigned, not only damages her reputation, but that of the Labour party. Worse than that, this fiasco and Harriet's refusal to resign shows our government to be corrupt in the eyes of the world.Harriet can claim ignorance, but ignorance of the law is not a valid defence. She can claim it was a clerical error on behalf of her team, but it is Harriet's responsibility to make sure she is obeying the law. If Harriet does not resign immediately, then she has no shame.Fact: Harriet Harman took a dodgy donation and used it to pay off debts accrued during her deputy leadership election campaign.Fact: Harriet Harman failed to register a loan used to fund her deputy leadership election campaign.Fact: Harriet Harman MUST RESIGN.
Harriet Harman admits to an unreported £40,000 mortgage extension.
2007-11-30 21:39:00
The plot solidifies (can't possibly get any thicker). Harriet Harman has now admitted that she took out a £40,000 extension to her and her husband's mortgage with the Halifax to fund the campaign. Unfortunately for Harriet, she did not report it to the Electoral Commission or the Register of Members' Interests.A spokesperson for Harriet said: "The Harriet Harman campaign was under the impression that she did not need to register her mortgage with either the Electoral Commission or the Register of Members' Interests." The survey says------------------------------------------------------------------------Bollox.
Harriet Harman will face MPs at 11:30 over dodgy donation
2007-11-29 11:06:00
Harriet Harman is going to have to bring her best game to her weekly grilling as Leader of the House of Commons at 11:30 this morning. If I were Harriet I'd claim the fifth amendment. If she is found to have lied about her involvement in the donor scandal, she will not only lose her job, but could also face criminal prosecution. If ever the was a good day for Harriet to throw a sickie - then today is that day. There are questions that must have answers:1. Did Harriet or any of her people approach Janet Kidd for a donation.2. Did Harriet know that the money was actually coming from David Abrahams before last Saturday.3. Why was the donation made after Harriet had won the Deputy Leadership Election.4. What does her husband, Jack Dromey, who is Labour's treasurer, know about the donations and does he know Abrahams.5. What was the £5,000 donation spent on, or where did it go.To be continued......
Women's minister Harriet Harman to increase the number of female MPs
2007-07-26 02:00:00
Women's minister Harriet Harman has pledged to increase the number of female MPs. Harman told guests at an Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) reception that she would work towards equal numbers of men and women in Parliament. An EOC report this week warned it would take 195 years at the current rate of change for the proportion of female MPs to rise from 20% to 50%. Bur Harman said: "We are not going to wait for 200 years for the gap between men and women in Parliament to close ? absolutely not." Harman also celebrated her recent appointment as deputy leader of the Labour Party as a victory for sisterhood. "How wrong the bookies were!" she said. "It was basically lots of male political journalists working out which of the men would get the deputy leader position. They all got it completely wrong."
