Hedge Funds Industry Finds Solace In Twitter
2009-06-26 09:45:00
It is amazing to see twitter finding its way into mainstream uses but what would surprise most of us is its use in the hedge fund industry. The use of twitter in hedge funds industry could never been predicted by even the die-hard twitter fans. This may provide twitter a credible face for news sourcing. Hedge fund Industry constitutes one of the riskiest investment assets across the world. They take leverage position in multiples of their billions worth of assets and is in doll-drums currently. Many hedge fund traders have started using twitter as their basic and reliable news source by adopting a technology from US company-StreamBase. Streambase mines twitter for information related to stocks and commdities that can be utilized for financial trading and is plugged into trading platforms for real time access. Hedge fund mangers were earlier lambasted by investors for using automatic trading platforms which increased the risk profile of the trades, now relying on twitter for billions o...

Hedge your US Dollar Risk
2009-06-01 22:50:00
The US Dollar has recovered over the last 8 months or so, partly due to the weakness in global markets and currencies and partly due to the decline in oil. Now that oil has moved much higher from its January lows, the dollar is starting to show signs of resuming its long-term downtrend. So why is the US Dollar in a long-term downtrend? Well the trade deficit is one reason. The second being the

2008-05-31 06:55:00
When you step back and take a look, all these bubbles were really just low-interest-rate-enabled hot-money speculative hedge-fund driven attacks.First they went after the dot-com stocks. That was pretty fun. Then they moved on to real estate and houses. You know how that turned out. Then they moved onto gold, silver and the metals, and artwork and Euros too. And oh, that was quite the party. After that, it was food - corn, wheat, soybeans, rice, etc. Which of course is leading to starvation and death and soaring food prices. And then finally, they went after the oil. Black gold. Which of course is disrupting commerce worldwide and putting an "oil tax" on billions around the globe. So what's next? Is there ANYTHING that hasn't been attacked yet by these locusts? Is there ANYTHING still in their way?Maybe baseball cards? Cocoa Puffs? Zebras? Electricity?

That’s right, if you enjoyed reading my book An American Hedge Fund, you’re gonna love its audio version! Have a listen to a sample from the first chapter: CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO MY SAMPLE Clocking in at just under seven hours, the story will obviously pump you up (especially the first half…before reality sets in), but mixed in with this guy’s soothing voice, well, it’s something definitely worth checking out. There’s several ways to purchase this audiobook–you can download it on iTunes for $15.95 (I have no link…can you even link directly to something on iTunes?), Audible for $17.47 and even if you don’t have access to an mp3 player (what are you, the Unabomber?), you can even purchase this audiobook … [visit site to read more]
The Latest Glowing Book Review For “An American Hedge Fund”
2008-05-28 01:08:00
It’s reviews like this that really make me proud. Forget that this guy thoroughly enjoyed my book for a second—more importantly, you’ll see he was even more pleased that somebody else in this joke of an industry shared similar experiences as him. I call this a joke of an industry only because of the ridiculous SEC regulations that divide us and prevent us from sharing our experiences openly. To cut through all the misconceptions caused by this regulatory BS—that’s the goal of my book and website…thank God it looks like I’m succeeding. Take your stinking paws off us you damn dirty SEC! (The views expressed above are solely my own and do not reflect the views of the book reviewer below) I just wanted to thank you for recommending (and writing) your book (An American Hedge Fund) I just finished it a few minutes ago. I am not a big reader, And yet I read it cover to cover in 2 sittings! It was fantastic! Honestly, I felt like the book was detailing my own life. I am a tr...

How To Hedge Against Rising Gas and Oil Prices?
2008-05-12 23:43:00
Everybody?s talking about gas prices? they?ve reached another high, everybody wants a hybrid? so why not explore how an individual can try to limit their exposure to gas prices? How much more are you really paying?Yes, $50 for a fill-up hits some sort of mental trigger, but sometimes I wonder if people really have calculated exactly how much more they are paying. According to AAA, the current national average is $3.70/gal, while a year ago it was $3.05. If your car gets 20 miles per gallon, you drive 12,000 miles per year, paying 65 cents more per gallon equates to an extra $390 per year. (If you got a stimulus check, this means a lot of it might have already been spent?)Now, for many families who are walking a financial tightrope, such a hard-to-avoid increase is just a another step closer to the edge. But for the Wii-playing, Starbucks-drinking crowd, is an extra $32/month really worth making a fuss over? I mean, some of these folks are the same ones whose eyes glaze over when I de...

Home Sales and Hedge Funds
2008-05-07 16:10:00
What could hedge funds, specializing in the short selling of stocks, have to do with home sales? Here's how. Hedge funds generally thrive on bad news. The worse the news, the better the situation for those who benefit from it. And, in fact, hedge funds and similar speculative activities based on anticipated economic decline, are dealing in self-fulfilling prophecies. The more bets against the market, the deeper the decline. Over the past year the housing market has been the whipping-child of the media. Probably the worst of those attempting to destroy the housing market is Robert Shiller, the founder of the Case-Shiller index of housing (used by Standard & Poor's). According to a recent article in Realty Times, Shiller derives considerable personal benefit from the panic he peddles with his shocking descriptions of a "national" housing market in a death spiral. It apparently doesn't really matter to some that the 20 metro areas c...

Hedge anxiety
2008-05-02 02:01:00
The hedge in front of my house is the bane of my existence.Truly.For most of the time I have lived here, I fretted about the overgrowth of said hedge, and how its gnarly viney leafy ugliness was reflecting on me as the new kid in the 'hood. And, truth be told, my neat freakness OCD started perking up every time I drove into the driveway or looked out the window. I tell you, the thing was that bad... or I need some serious psychiatric help... or maybe a combo.Anyway...About a month ago the hedge got a big ass haircut. It is no longer overgrown. Due to the over zealousness of my hedge chopping crew, all signs of leaf and limb were shorn to the roots. And now, my friends, I am nearly certain that the hedge, by my best estimationisDEAD.Dead, I tell you. Look... an actual unretouched photograph...So, of course, I have a whole lotta new hedge anxiety. Of the crap it's dead what do I do variety...Many of my friends (and a few of them are landscapers) have assured me that there is no way ...

Hello everyone,Yeah, yeah, yeah, I haven't updated my blog in awhile. It's been a challenging few weeks both personally and professionally, so I've been laying low.All is generally well, though, and today life is especially fabulous. I'm happy to report I'm on vacation until April 27. Hooray!I'm spending part of my vacation in Iowa, visiting my dad and my ailing (but getting better) momma. I don't necessarily consider going to Iowa a vacation, but I'm sucking it up. My mother's been through hell this year.My brother and his wife have had a rough go of it lately as well. Their newborn daughter, beautiful little Charlotte, is struggling with several pretty large health problems. She had a tracheotomy last week, and will be in the hospital for another 2 - 3 weeks. My brother and sister-in-law are the most organized and practical people I know, so they are taking this all in stride. But it can't be easy. They have a lot to learn and deal with. Credit Crunch Hurts Hedge-Fund Stars
2008-04-14 07:44:00
WSJ: Credit Crunch Hurts Hedge-Fund StarsDavid Tepper, founder of hedge-fund firm Appaloosa Management LP, saw a negative 17% return last quarter in two funds with more than $6 billion in assets combined as bets on distressed debt went awry, according to fund documents. His Appaloosa Investment and Palomino funds gave up most of that ground in January and February, as declining prices for mortgage-backed bonds and other debt investments caused broad credit-market seizures....Some hedge-fund managers who have fared better this year are saying the wild ride in the markets isn't over.
