So a few weeks back I picked up a couple micro remote control helicopters. Now that I've been playing with them for a while I though I'd share my thoughts on them. I'm still not great at flying them because they're are not easy to control. Since buying them I've learned that the larger the r/c helicopter the easier it is to fly, but since I don't have a lot of area to fly them and these can be flow indoors I'm working on getting better with them. Taking off and landing is not to bad. It is the maneuvering that takes practice. These micro helicopters come ready to fly out of the box. You just need to charge them up, which takes 15 or 20 minutes, and then you're ready to fly. For the first flight you have to do a little adjusting so that it flies strait and does not spin in circles. Once you have that done it should fly strait up and down pretty easily. Smaller ports like Charlston & Wilmington didn't have many of these, but Baltimore & Chesapeake had plenty of them. The ones near Chesapeake & Norfolk were mostly military ones butBaltimore had all types of choppers from News, medevac to Police Choppers. The Chopper refueling jetty was near our Terminal so we would see choppers coming every twenty minutes or so to Land, take fuel & then be on their merry ways. According to theNewspaper.com, the helicopters will be equipped with Wescam MX15 forward-looking infrared cameras that'll take pictures of the target vehicle's license plate, while a separate radar system calculates the speed of the vehicle. Tragedy struck two news channels recently when two helicopters collided in Phoenix while covering a police chase. All four people on board the two aircrafts were killed including KTVK-TV’s photojournalist Jim Cox and pilot Scott Bowerback along with KNXV-TV’s photographer Rick Krolax and pilot Craig Smith. The crash is going to be investigating and question the safety of news helicopters in the air. The helicopters were following a stolen white truck towing a trailer at the time of the crash which landed in a downtown park. Fifteen minutes before the start of a contract writing class I was teaching, news came in of the mid-air collision of the helicopters from KTVK-3 and KNXV-15 here in Phoenix. All four men aboard the two helicopters were lost. Amazingly, no one on the ground was injured when the helicopters fell into Steele Indian School Park in downtown Phoenix.
