Kentucky Hemlock Trees Threatened with Extinction
2008-04-19 22:24:00 Kentucky’s hemlock trees are threatened with extinction by the hemlock woolly adelgid, a beetle originally from Osaka, Japan which has decimated East Coast hemlocks from Massachusetts to Georgia. It has no natural enemies in North America and, with global warming, may ultimately spread as far north as the Canadian Maritimes. Massive stands of hemlock have died in both the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia — where an estimated 90 percent of hemlocks have been decimated — and the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, leaving skeletal-appearing standing timber. The aphid-like beetle has been spotted in the Eastern Kentucky counties of Bell, Clay, Harlan, Leslie, Letcher, Pike, Powell and Whitley, as well as in urban areas much farther west in Grayson and Oldham counties. Great-granddaughter of Hemlock Brooks Egyptian King
2007-09-20 15:49:00 Crystal is silver dapple pinto filly. She was our very first precious little mini and we never thought that we would part with her. She is 34.75 tall, has great conformation with excellent topline, long neck, good bite and HUGE eyes. She is trained to lead, tie, load and is started on college level leading. She is very patient about ferrier work, bath and clipping. She is our most sociable mini mare and whenever a newcomer - foal, new horse, dog or human - arrives on the scene we can count on Crystal to say Welcome, I'm glad you are here. Our only reason for selling Crystal is that she is a pinto and we are now committed to breeding appaloosas. On top of the aforementioned Crystal has wonderful bloodlines - she is a great-granddaughter of the immortal Hemlock Brooks Egyptian King.
