A Test of Leadership: Charting the Future of U.S. Higher Education
2008-06-07 22:06:00 Three hundred and seventy years after the first college in our fledgling nation was established to train Puritan ministers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, it is no exaggeration to declare that higher education in the United States has become one of our greatest success stories. Whether America’s colleges and universities are measured by their sheer number and variety, by the...

Higher education!
2008-06-03 22:49:00 I remember when I first started agility training. I was about a year old, just a kid really. And Mum thought I needed a job, very badly! She was right...all dogs need jobs.We went through three different trainers before we found the one that was right for us. (They are all great and we love them, and thank them often for taking us in). And it wasn't all that easy getting into the second and third trainer. It wasn't just call them up and join a class. Our second trainer wanted to interview me and Mum in a private meeting before letting us join a class. Our third and present trainer, who we think is great, by the way, gave us a little quiz on our first day and took us on a recommendation of another trainer. So getting into school is not an easy task even for a dog. Humans have to go through the same thing when they are looking for their higher education, don't they? They have to write admission essays to the colleges they would like to attend, and I expect that that is no easy task....

My Obnoxious Whine About Higher Education
2008-05-13 16:53:00 I went to one of the so-called "good" colleges: Stanford. It changed my life, in a lot of important ways. One of them being, party guests frequently puzzle at my abysmal Trivial Pursuit skills. And when I say -- as I am wont to do -- something that's just deeply, goofily wrong, people are apt to look at each other and whisper: She went to Stanford? Obviously, Stanford ain't what it used to be.

Serious Games Taking Higher Education Outside Of The Classroom from chemist
2008-04-24 11:12:00 Via: Flux and OpenCulture - Universities Go Mobile As Serious Games continue to emerge as a useful model for learning at all levels, including higher education, they are showing their versatility in a variety of settings. What might a university look like with a fully deployed program of converged devices like the iPhone? Connected is one possible vision. Envisioning the 21st-Century CampusAs a university, ACU (Abilene Christian University) has invested much energy considering emerging trends in education. They've done this because their ongoing goal to help prepare students to be critical thinkers, knowledgeable professionals, and responsible citizens calls for continual reevaluation of almost everything that happens in and out of the classroom - even a reevaluation of what constitutes the classroom itself. In the spring of 2007, a group of educators, technologists, and administrators at ACU crystallized these ongoing discussions, producing a case for a new emphasis on mobile learn...

Higher education?
2008-03-19 12:23:00 Higher education. Two examples of such, from the first ten minutes of this morning’s web travels: First example: School kids, courtesy of the Jawas: Actually, it’s spelled “Too many”. And I’m not even going to get into the lack of logic behind the (attempted) statement. Second example: Professor Scott Erb, University of Maine, at Q&O Last night: Your imagining things. It’s spelled “You’re”, Professor… it’s a contraction. Is this higher education? How high do you need to be? Addendum: (David L) Trust me, I know. Speling humor is tricky. It seldom works. Here is the a classic exmaple which did work. (Clever Typos… Bit)Â Technorati Tags: Education, government schools

Online Schools Have a Lot to Offer In Higher Education
2008-01-24 17:11:00 When it comes to gaining a college education, online schools have a lot to offer these days. You can say goodbye to the old concept of distance learning via snail mail, and hello to convenient classes and degree programs right over the Internet! Recent graduates and adult learners all across the world are discovering that online schools are a good bet for higher education. The great part about online classes is that they can take place anywhere at any time, completely at your own convenience. You can contact your professors and peers via email or special ...

Associate Degrees Are Essential Component to Higher Education
2008-01-10 19:24:00 There is no faster path to undergraduate degrees than the one leading to Associate's. You can earn Associate of Science (AS) or Associate of Arts (AA) degrees in a variety of fascinating subjects in two years or less. And, the best part is, you can apply those earned college credits to continue your higher education to achieve Bachelor, Master and even Doctorate Degrees. 2008-01-06 13:39:00 I need to start off by pointing out that politically, I am more liberal than conservative. Nevertheless, I avoid liberal commentators. But I generally pay attention to George F. Will, even though I don't always agree with his conservative views.

2007-12-12 14:23:00 It is a debate that is gaining attention of late in the media. Read the full debate that appeared in ET here. Some points worth our noting from this debate: 1. The rankings are generating so much interest that I am receivng four to five emails daily with people forwarding me the same link to HEC?s ranking web page. (Scroll down to see rankings and details).I am kind of disappointed with my alma-mater, NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, ranked at number 10 out of the 13 engineering Universities of Pakistan. The photo to the right-below shows few views of NED University.I genuinely and of course with a little bias think that NED university should?ve been ranked among the top 3. When I make such claim; I do it on the basis of sheer engineering talent I?ve personally seen at NED. But rankings do not take into account the student talent. They look at finances, faculty, number of studetns etc. My university mates as well as the university officials have already started the discussion on how to improve the rankin...
