The Hindu ? only some comments allowed?
2011-05-18 00:27:00 The Hindu accepts e-mail letters about articles it has posted on-line. A couple of such letters were sensible (shown here), the rest were the usual apologists’ one-sided defense of Sathya Sai Baba. I have written a brief e-mail, signed Robert Priddy, and await with interest to see whether The Hindu will post it, or whether ...
Sai Baba ? ?The Hindu? allows criticism
2011-05-16 12:04:00 After many years of virtual subservience to Sathya Sai Baba and his doctrines, combined with refusal to entertain the views of critics – not even answering our letters – and nothing but virtual promotional articles of Sathya Sai Baba as endorsers of his sainthood, ‘The Hindu’ has at last relented somewhat. It has allowed a ...
New Avatar Of ‘The Hindu’
2009-08-17 12:10:00 On the Independence Day, “The Hindu”, 130 years old Newspaper has revamped its website though in beta version. The new beta avatar of The Hindu looks prim and proper. Good implementation of Web 2.0 and perfect blend of UI design is used. The makeover was required as the previous layout was not upto the mark. Let’s have a look at the modifications: Good use of pastel colors, not putting stain on eyes and increases readability Made best use of User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) Maintained a perfect balance between news and Ads Most important and big change, no Ads has been placed on post page (except the sidebar of ADs). Hope they will maintain this policy. Ads are not fitted between the news (As most of the portals do to increase revenue). News has not been broken into multiple pages (as many other websites do, so as to increase the Page Views). One more interesting and notable change is slideshows. Slideshows are played in a single page with smooth transitions....

Sathya Sai Baba: ?Considerable Concern? In Wider Hindu Community
2009-02-21 00:00:00 ?There is considerable concern among the Hindu Community, especially among the educated. It is very hard to get any action from the temples as they do not wish to cause difficulties with the Sathya Sai Baba groups. People are starting to distance themselves from Sathya Sai Baba. It?s going to be gradual process of education. The biggest impact it appears was the ?The Secret Swami? ? it seems it has had a tremendous negative effect on Sathya Sai Baba".

India?s Painful Experience of Corrupt Leadership
2009-01-18 07:17:00 Listen to a wide cross-section of Indians ? whether Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Parsee, Jain, Christian and so on - and you will frequently find in them a thorough disgust for India's endemically corrupt, gerontocratic and nepotistic leaders right across the political spectrum. In India political leadership, too often, yesterday's men (or mostly men) are still today's men.

HOW ONE CAN CREATE HUF(HINDU UNDIVIDED FAMILY)
2008-06-01 19:59:00 Though every body is interested in this question and this question has been asked by many and generally not have any answer in text book also ,why it so ?The answer is very Interesting that the above question is wrong the correct question is"how we can create capital for Huf 'we can not create Huf but can arrange capital for it"Till the time the HUF has an empty kitty,it is like a balloon that no one has yet blown air into. A balloon can rightfully be called a "ball"oon only when it swells up with air inside it. Without the air the balloon is inert, dormant. An HUF too is inert and dormant without funds."....................CA Sanjeev Bedi(ludhiana)"The million-dollar question indeed is: How to blow funds into the HUF and turn it into a balloon that floats?A member of the HUF throwing his money into the common pool, or to use that overused clich' the family hotchpot, is out of the question, thanks to Section 64(2) which would tax the income earned by the HUF on that money in the ...

Nasomatto Hindu Grass ~ fragrance review
2008-05-15 00:28:00 The Nasomatto website would have been a perfect place for Prix Eau Faux contestants to get inspiration. Amsterdam-based Nasomatto is secretive (no fragrance notes are given for any of their perfumes and the owners/perfumers provide only their first names ? Alessandro* and Arturetto ? and cryptic bios online). One offering, Hindu Grass, ?aims to breathe the belief in universal peace and love?. I was able to distance myself from the bad writing and annoying coyness of Nasomatto?s ?Manifesto? when I saw their handsome bottles (I want one) and read the name Hindu Grass. Perfume names often mislead us and the resulting perfume does not meet our personal expectations (a recent example pour moi: Herms Un Jardin aprs la Mousson). To me, a perfume with the word ?Hindu? in its name should: smell of incense, tropical flowers and fruit one would find on altars; contain spices (cardamom, coriander seeds, cinnamon); and be intense. Hindu Grass? ?grass? should provide a sharp vegetal blast coup...

Top 10 reasons to be a Hindu!
2008-03-28 08:46:00 Beyond the layers of spirituality, philosophy and beliefs; man* is embedded with an inquisitive mind that questions everything that he sees and does and nothing but pure reason could convince it. In trivial things, we let it loose and with religion most of us control it in the fear of questioning God and being a sinner. I couldn?t accept this difference in perspective and I?ve revisited my beliefs, practices and religion quite often. Every time I think about it, Hinduism makes me feel proud, thankful and ecstatic; and this article is an attempt to identify the top 1o reasons to be happy about my spiritual self. 10: The Oldest Living Religion Hinduism is the oldest living religion in the world and there is no start date for the religion. Ever since the day when man glimpsed at the sun with respect, Hinduism was born. 9: Liberty Hinduism never compels you to do anything. No part of Hinduism mandates you to go to temples and there is nothing called a ?Hindu Costume?. The religion u...

New Mexico Senate opened with Hindu prayer today for first time
2008-01-29 12:09:00 New Mexico State Senate here heard its first Hindu opening prayer today, when prominent Hindu chaplain and Indo-American leader, Rajan Zed, recited Gayatri and other ancient Sanskrit mantras. Starting with “Om”, the mystical syllable containing the universe, which in Hinduism is used to introduce and conclude religious work, he read from Rig-Veda, the oldest scripture of the world still in common use, dated from around 1,500 BCE. He also delivered from Brahadaranyakopnishad and Taittiriya Upanishad, other ancient Hindu scriptures. Reading from Chapter three of Bhagavad-Gita (Song of the Lord), he urged senators to "Do your work with the welfare of others always in mind." He ended the prayer with last mantra of Rig-Veda, “samani va akutih”, before concluding with “Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti”, which he then translated as “Peace, Peace, Peace be unto all”. Before starting the prayer, he sprinkled Gangajal (holy wat...

Rajan Zed, prominent Hindu chaplain and Indo-American leader, will recite prayers in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Washington and Arizona, which will reportedly be the first Hindu prayers of these senates since their formation. Zed will deliver prayers from ancient Hindu scriptures at senate halls in State Capitols in Santa Fe (January 28), Denver (January 29), Salt Lake City (February 13), Olympia (February 22), and Phoenix (March 24). After reciting in Sanskrit, he will then read the English translation of the prayer. Zed will recite from Rig-Veda, the oldest scripture of the world still in common use, dated from around 1,500 BC, besides lines from -- Upanishads and Bhagavad-Gita -- both ancient Hindu scriptures. Hindu household, Urdu nameplate
2008-01-28 18:40:00 Over the last couple of decades I have seen Urdu signboards and nameplates disappear fast across the country. As Urdu is not supposed to be a language that will attract the consumers, shop-ownes are also not keen on having display boards in Urdu. In Muslim localities also Urdu nameplates are now hard to find except in a few cities. That's why such nameplates fascinate me. Still, in some Kayastha houses you can spot old Urdu nameplates. On the left is the photo of one non-Muslim house sporting an Urdu nameplate. The owner's name is Awadh Narayan. He is not a Kayastha though. And that's Circa 2008. Malaysian Hindu festival marred by race dispute
2008-01-23 12:21:00 By Clarence Fernandez KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia's disgruntled ethnic Indian community marked one of southeast Asia's biggest Hindu festivals in muted fashion on Wednesday, with members divided over a national racial discrimination row. The Thaipusam festival is normally a boisterous, crowded affair, but attendance this year was markedly down at the main venue, the Batu Caves temple complex atop a steep hill on the edge of the capital. Members of the Hindu community are divided over the temple management's behaviour last year during violent protests involving thousands of ethnic Indians demonstrating against racial discrimination. As expectations grow that the government will call early elections by March, the protests and temple row have the potential to divide Indian voters, who, despite making up just 7 percent of Malaysia's 26 million population, can sometimes influence marginal constituencies or policy. Rowdy protests by more than 10,000 members of the community...

Muslim Lac Bangle craftsmen adorn Hindu wrists
2008-01-21 13:18:00 The colourful mirrored bangles that Hindu women wear as symbol of marital status, it also tells the story of communal amity in India. From time immemorial, the bangles, inlaid with intricate mirror designs in lac, have been made by Muslims. Bangle makers have nurtured the art since time immemorial and more than 2,000 Muslim families of Jaipur and Ajmer are engaged in giving shapes and shines to these bangles. Lac is a resinous substance deposited by lac insect on various trees in Southern Asia. "Lac bangles signify the marital status of the women. Most of the Muslims are into this business of making lac bangles. These bangles are very famous throughout India and abroad. We feel happier especially when customers of other religion come and purchase bangles from us. Lot of women come to us and it develops a sense of respect in us and as well in them," said Babu Khan, lac bangles manufacturer. 'Maniharon ka Raasta' in Jaipur and 'Khwaja Ki...
