Like when I spend an entire season thinking that I have to watch every game or else we'll lose, only to find that we seem to do a lot better on West Coast trips when I fall asleep early. Or when Henry Blanco, who I thought died sometime back in June (seriously) rises from the dead only to perfectly execute an RBI suicide squeeze (or so I'm told. I was asleep, remember?) Or when Cliff Floyd, now apparently inhabited Jim Morrison-style by the spirit of his father turns into Ted Wiliams at the plate for the second game in a row. Funny, I went into this series thinking that there was a pretty good possibility that we'd be swept by a hot Giants team. Instead, we have a chance to hand Barry, his robotic elbow, and the other Barry their third straight loss. It's beginning to occur to me that this team might be better than I ever suspected.
