2007-04-12 10:20:00 Stephanie Saville The KZN Taxi Council welcomed the life sentences imposed on two men - one a former South African National Defence Force (SANDF) corporal - in the Pietermaritzburg High Court yesterday after they were found guilty of the assassination of rival taxi owner Simphiwe Jabulani Kansas Mkhize. Mkhize was gunned down at his home in Caluza near Pietermaritzburg on April 20 2002, and died in hospital as a result of his wounds on May 2. The court heard that the two had acted on the instructions of taxi owner Jika Joe Dlamini, who has since died. Accused Xolani Manyoni, 30, was employed at the time of the murder by the SANDF. His co-accused and uncle, Richard Magwagwe Mathobi, 34, was unemployed.
