Obama Dominates McCain in Online Support
2008-05-12 06:37:00
John McCain has less than 50,000 MySpace friends, while Clinton and Obama together have more than 565,000 friends, according to techpresident Barack Obama has 824,786 Facebook supporters and John McCain has 125,299. On May 8, Barack Obama had more than 45.4 million views of his YouTube videos compared to 3.4 million for John McCain. Over the past month John McCain?s YouTube viewer-ship has stayed around 3.4 million while Obama?s has gradually increased from 37.7 million to 45.4 million. According to Hitwise, a unit of measuring site traffic for all candidates, Barack Obama gets 44 percent of the hits, Hillary Clinton 43 percent, John McCain 8 percent and Ron Paul 5 percent. The first problem McCain has, is that 87 percent of the campaign website traffic goes to the Democratic candidates. Democrats have been locked in a tight race which would make it hard for McCain to draw attention in the midst of all the chaos that surrounds the Democrats. When you co...

Democrats Dominate Social Network Sites and Loose in Overall Site Traffic
2007-12-27 07:02:00
Democrats have been more successful reining in supporters on YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, and Eventful sites than Republicans have been. Democratic candidates have more subscribers on YouTube, more event requests on Eventful, and more friends on Facebook and MySpace.Barack Obama has over 172,000 Facebook supporters, while Ron Paul, who leads all Republicans, has just over 44,700 supporters. Clinton has only 56,000 supporters and Romney has only 22,000 supporters to come in second for their respective parties. While Democratic candidates may have more subscribers on YouTube.com, Ron Paul is certainly leading in the amount of daily viewers. According to TubeMogul, RonPaul.com YouTube videos receive cumulative views of over 8.6 million per day. Barack Obama leads Democrats with over 6.4 million viewers each day. Mike Huckabee is the next closest Republican and he gets just over 3.8 million views a day and Mitt Romney is close behind him with 3.2 million. John Edwards was the seco...
Hitwise: Google, Ask October’s Winners
2007-11-19 22:17:00
A new report from Hitwise is here, and the short version is as follows: Google wins.  The long version includes a few other things of interest, though, including a small gain on Ask’s part. Ask’s October market share was 4.76 percent, up slightly from its September standing of 4.32 percent.  No significant changes to the underlying engine appear to have been made in this period; instead, the only really notable thing was a new advertising campaign in which respectable, demonstration-style videos took the place of chicks with swords and Kato Kaelin. To move on to Microsoft, the Redmond-based corporation saw its search share decrease from 7.83 percent to 7.42.  This might not appear to be too monumental, but Todd Bishop notes, “[L]ast month’s results reflect the launch window for Microsoft’s redesigned Live Search service.  If those changes are going to boost Microsoft’s share of U.S. search queries, the Hitwise numbers aren&rsq...

Hitwise: Ron Paul and Barack Obama Continue Their Political Dominance of th
2007-09-08 22:40:00
Barack Obama and Ron Paul continued to rule the site traffic rankings among their respective Democratic and Republican presidential candidate counterparts at the end of August. However, one newcomer could upset the apple cart, at least for Republicans: none other than Fred Thompson, the just-declared candidate with the folksy celebrity appeal. According to Hitwise, Thompson's site traffic ranked third among all candidates from both parties. Interest in candidates as indicated by visitors to their official campaign sites continued to fluctuate during the week ending September 1. While most maintained traffic market share, give or take a point or two, since the end of July, some hopefuls from both sides of the aisle dropped or rose more significantly. In the Dem camp, Senator John Edwards moved from third to second place and gained eight points in traffic share, while Mike Gravel lost over seven points and fell four notches in the rankings. When ClickZ last reported Gravel's tra...

Good to see Hitwise using MOSAIC and good to see important MOSAIC groups us
2007-05-28 16:50:00
It's my view that the online marketing community can gain much from traditional direct marketers. It's also my view that direct marketers are being too slow to adopt online media. So for me at least, it's always great to see any evidence of convergence between traditional direct marketing and online direct marketing. Such convergence is evident in the Hitwise Analysts Blog which has been reporting the changing demographic profile of web users through MOSAIC - a traditional segmentation tool of direct mail marketers. And it shows up some interesting findings. Most notably, Heather Hopkins, Hitwise UK's Director of Research, reports that 'Symbols of Success' and 'Urban Intelligence' are among the most active MOSAIC groups online. Now anyone who's sat in a meeting discussing MOSAIC targeting of any "ABC1" product or service will be aware of the commercial attractiveness of both 'Symbols of Success' and 'Urban Intelligence'. They are highly desirable from many marketing pe...
