Hodge Podge Thursday

This and that before the rubber game of the Dodger series. The starting lineup is out:PodsednikRamirezDyeThomeKon-erkoPierzynski GetzFieldsWiseAlso I saw a quote from Josh Fields last night after he had his first good game in a month, he was talking about the issues the Sox have had this year scoring runs at U.S. Cellular Field. Immediately it caught my eye where he said, "I don't know what it is, if it's mental blocks or something.."I've believed for a long time that part of the reason was mental and said so..the Sox come home and immediately go into a 'swing hard - hope to hit the ball eight miles' mode. That doesn't work. For the record I also think the issues playing at Minnesota...

This article is revised and reposted– Can?t explain it, can?t they? It?s a blatant fact that Creationists cannot honestly explain why no human fossils are found alongside dinosaur fossils. Instead, they just make up lies and throw out everything that contradicts them, just like what this creationist does here. On May 4th of last year (Yet mentioned recently on February 13 of this year.), Bodie Hodge, one of Ken Ham’s AiG cronies wrote and publish a brief, small article entitled, If humans and dinosaurs lived together, why don’t we find human fossils with dinosaur fossils? (Answer: They were never there to begin with.) Then months later, he expanded it and included it in Ham’s rehashed version of The Answers Book by adding more faulty explanations than the original brief version which I’ve debunked here. The extended version of the article begins by claiming, “Biblical creationists believe that man and dinosaurs lived at the same time because God, ...

Harvest Hodge Podge Pot Pie
2007-10-02 04:38:00
Tonight's dinner was another just-throw-it-together-type meal and I must say, it worked out pretty well. I think I have only attempted a pot pie once before, but this time, with a little inspiration from Elly's recipe, it came out quite good. Also, I think that it makes quite a good clean-out-the-fridge sort of meal, if you don't let yourself feel restricted to "classic" pot pie ingredients. This version included fresh pumpkin, turnips, and a lightly-pumpkin flavored crust to invoke the comforts of fall. This was also a wonderful way to use up some of the herb-roasted chicken I made the day before. And the best part is, I just used enough filling to make two individual pot pies, and froze the remaining filling to put together a quick meal another time. Here's what I did, and hopefully you can alter this according to what you have and what you like. I started by sauteing some diced onions in a little bit of butter - about 1/2 a tablespoon. Just enough to give a little flavor. I a...

Hodge Podge

For starters.... My lil Boo had a fit this morning not wanting me to leave and go to work.  I got the pouty lip and the sad sad face.  I spent 10 minutes getting ready for work, then twenty minutes consoling her.  It was really hard for her...and it nearly broke my heart.  This is the first time she has really acted this way about my working since the first time I got "my feet wet" back in January training a woman for a few weeks.  It was then that ED AND I decided it was too soon and too traumatic for her..and it was...this time around (march) when I started, she handled it much better...and even looked forward to spending time with her sitters.  Sad way to leave for work.....sigh My sister went to the doc this week...he found a lump in her breast that needs looked into further.  Please say a prayer that its no big deal.  I pretty much assume, that it is due to fibrous tissue....that sort of thing runs in my family.  But pray anyway.&nbs...

Hodge and Simpson rejoin Packers
2007-07-30 22:54:00
Green Bay Packers linebackers Abdul Hodge and Juwan Simpson had dropped out of practice on Sunday due to injury, but they're being good soldiers today."Back in uniform after sitting out Sunday are linebackers Abdul Hodge and Juwan Simpson," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.That must come as good news to head coach Mike McCarthy who probably didn't want to cut practice short today due to linebackers dropping like flies like he did yesterday because of a lack of tight ends.
Hodge struggles early in camp
2007-07-30 15:01:00
It seems like decades ago that Green Bay Packers middle linebacker Abdul Hodge was wowing fans at training camp, which had people calling for Barnett to be moved outside. After a successful training camp in 2006, Hodge had a largely forgettable season. He was slowed by injuries, and they still haven't subsided."Coach Mike McCarthy indicated on Sunday night Hodge might have to go to a one-practice-a-day schedule until his knee problems subside," reports Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Meanwhile, he's getting passed by. Rookie Desmond Bishop worked in place of Hodge on Sunday as the middle linebacker with the No. 2 defense and held up well."Why is Hodge's injury lingering for so long?

Naive holism II - Hodges' model and String theory
2007-07-24 23:31:00
Where were we? Oh yes, maybe string theory can help...?Health is complex, labyrinthine and while there is no Minotaur to slay (?) we must constantly mine* for information. If we venture forth then best to take some string for reassurance:Fully navigate the labyrinth (use technology if you must - audit trails count);Find your way out and then you can report your deeds to the wider world. The maze entrance is revealed when the pin is 'stuck' onto the referral source map. Post or ZIP code: "use it for geographies sake." You want to get out don't you? Then start laying the thread - REASON-4-REFERRALweight loss, fatigue, tremor: SCIENCES domainlow mood, anxiety, agitation: INTERPERSONAL domaincarer under stress: SOCIOLOGY domain - and so on.Check the health policies hurriedly scrawled on the walls (you may well find the Garden of Policy Delights#, but otherwise make do with the graffiti). Kelly Clarkson Talks About Mouth Herpes, David Hodges
2007-07-09 19:09:00
The original American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, gives a very candid and hilarious interview in the August 2007 issue of Blender. In it, she speaks on how infrequently she kisses (let’s just say this is no Katie Rees) - and how much she wishes she had never swapped spit with David Hodges: On what she does in her free time: “You know, I never go out. If I’m in L.A., I’m usually at my house playing Guitar Hero.” On her lying music label, BMG: “Everyone keeps saying how hard this record because be because of all the crap surrounding it, but that last one was really hard to make. I literally got told to my face that it wouldn’t sell more than 600,000 copies. And I got lied to. One reason I don’t like working with people at the label is that they like. They told me, ‘We really want you to got Sweden. These people really want to write with you.’ So I flew to Sweden with lyrics I’d written to this track I’d been send, ‘Since U Been Gone.’ I get there, and the wri...
Naive holism, Hodges' model and a lesson from NeuroLinguistic Programming
2007-06-27 23:30:00
The pen is mightier than the sword.Words are indeed very powerful, which means we should be careful how we use them.In the mid 1980s when artificial intelligence (AI) had a temperature well above normal limits, personal studies brought me to the words that represent commands in expert system and artificial intelligence applications. The question - how might language influence our expectations of such programs? In what was a major personal project at the time (which never saw the light of day - but whose effects may be evident in the main website and this blog?) I discovered and referenced work on problems discussed by McDermott (1985).This included the choice of mnemonics used in AI programs, with McDermott comparing the mnemonics in two systems - Planner and Conniver.True: things have moved on - but history, history....Planner : ConniverGOAL : FETCH & TRY-NEXTCONSEQUENT : IF-NEEDEDANTECEDENT : IF-ADDEDTHEOREM : ...
News exclusive: Mind mapper is visited by guardian angel of Hodges' model
2007-05-16 22:11:00
On the web I found an interesting comment item from the Educational Guardian 2006 by Philip Beadle "Mind maps: rubbish in theory, but handy in practice". Being an educational piece Mr Beadle is concerned with mind mapping in the context of children, although that's quite an age range in reality. As the title suggests, the piece as a whole does not rubbish mind mapping completely, but the start got my goat.... You see I thought of the first impressions and assumptions that people may form coming to Hodges' cognitive x-roads. Do they turn back or cross the divide?Beadle apparently mind mapped the article and asks the reader if they notice a rise in quantity. I don't know if it's a typo, but quality should be the factor here. He made several points:Mind-mapping is easySend people to search for coloured pencilsSharpen them - and again - and againDO NOT use a felt penThese instructions are c/o the books by Tony Buzan the mind mapping guru. Beadle declares them wrong - and continues:...
Hodges' model - How many interfaces are there?
2007-04-27 23:00:00
If you were stood at the centre of Hodges' model - the nexus - where exactly is that 'place'? Looking out from there what would you see?In a way from that vantage point our senses and imagination should encounter precisely whatever the model is capable of modelling? One of the four reasons for the creation of the model was to assure an holistic approach. Well consider this a mind experiment, a test. So, what do you think? Would you be at the heart of SOME-things, or the heart of ALL-things?You would certainly be at the heart-of and part-of an interface. This (possibly daft?) question needs to be asked. Why? Well, because an effective interface should be - at least - two-way.So what interface(s) does Hodges' model need to handle? If h2cm provides the scaffold, what are we then able to build? When Brian posed the initial questions when formulating the model he conducted a scoping exercise. The outcome determined the scope of the model, but what sort of scope? Is this scaffold suffic...
Hodges Battles To Get Back On Field
2007-04-16 01:44:00
Indians third baseman Wes Hodges hasn?t played for three straight games due to what high Class A Kinston manager Mike Sarbaugh called a ?tweak? in his hamstring. It must have been one bad tweak, since it?s always been tough to keep Hodges off the field?a hundred percent healthy or not. During the 2006 second-round pick?s senior year of high school, Hodges?a natural righthanded hitter?broke the hamate bone in his left wrist. Not being able to hit righthanded, Hodges taught himself to hit from the left side. And hit .430 that year. ?My back was kind of up against the wall,? Hodges said. ?It was either try to hit lefthanded or not play. I would always turn around and hit lefthanded when we?d play wiffle ball back home just messing around, so I went in there, just slapping my way through the season. But eventually I figured out how to slap it with some power. ?I wasn?t about to miss my senior year, and it was my only choice on the table. Not playing was not an option.? It was that attit...
Hodge will start
2006-11-27 00:00:14
Green Bay Packers rookie linebacker Abdul Hodge will get his first start at middle linebacker this week in place of an injured Nick Barnett. "I thought everything was fine and then I went home and it was just throbbing," Barnett told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I talked to the doctor this morning and he said if we take it week by week, let it heal up, it will be a lot less painful next week." Barnett will make the trip with the team, though. "Barnett is expecting to travel to Seattle to support the team and help instruct Hodge if he has questions," reports the Journal Sentinel.
Hodge ready to come back
2006-11-02 21:30:09
"Linebacker Abdul Hodge (knee) practiced for the first time since he was injured in the Oct. 2 loss at Philadelphia. Hodge said he will have to wear a brace if he plays this week," reports the Green Bay Press-Gazette . Luckily the Packers are deep at linebacker. Although they could certainly use Hodge on those special teams units.
