The Holidays Are Upon Us
2008-07-11 01:25:00
Well, not THOSE holidays, although there is a little of THAT holiday fun coming this weekend, but more about THAT later (wait, I didn?t need to capitalize that use of that, sorry). With the end of the week upon us, there are a few things I need to make sure you are all aware of this coming weekend. I?d hate for you to find out about them after the fact, because who likes celebrating belated holidays. More than once (perhaps 6 times, though I am just throwing out the first number that came to mind) I have been chastised for not sharing pertinent holiday happenings with you in enough advance time to be able to celebrate. Tonight, that practice ends. So, I am putting on my town crier Paul Revere hat and riding throughout the countryside to announce the advance of some pretty important, possibly illegitimate, but still fun to celebrate, holidays (and this is where I say ?Hi Kat.?).First up is Friday?s big holiday. You may have heard a little something about this one and I have to ...
Fathers Day Gifts
2008-06-10 19:19:00
The problem with buying a gift for Fathers Day is that most men just go buy things they want when they want them. If dad can’t afford it, chances are you can’t afford it, either. Is it any wonder why we buy him yet another fishing lure or tie every year? It takes some imagination and maybe a sense of humor to get him something really different, like a deer butt alien or a badonkadonk or any one of the 6 Strange and Unique Fathers Day Gifts. Disclaimer: I wrote this. digg_url = 'http://digg.com/people/6_Stran-ge_and_Unique_Fathers_Day_Gifts-';
June 10th Holidays - Get on the (Environmentally-Friendly) Ball & Keep
2008-06-10 06:00:00
Ball Point Pen Day - I can’t pretend that I’m overly excited about ball point pens, so I won’t get into the whole history of them. For those of you burning to know, there’s a ton of Wikipedia info on them. However, I am impressed with refillable ball point pens, which is a smart way ...

Multicultural American Child Awareness Day - One of the things I love about my melting pot city is all the different cultures. The biggest problem new American children must face is ...
The house with many trees
2008-06-08 04:25:00
Guy and I found a house that we both love.Just for fun, I had him click through the pictures tonight so that I could tell him which rooms could have a Christmas tree in them and which rooms couldn't.We got up to four trees before he became totally annoyed at me and ended my fun.I have to have some fun with this. The process completely stresses me out.I've lived in Raleigh for 10 years now. It feels like home. My roots have dug in deep here. But this house? Two trees, and that's pushing it. So I'm willing to think about it.
June 7th Holidays - Be the King of the Wild Raccoons in a Discount Coonskin
2008-06-07 06:00:00
Daniel Boone Day - I always get Daniel Boone confused with Davy Crockett, and I’m still not sure who’s who. I do know Davy Crockett was the king of the wild frontier, and Daniel Boone wore that bizarre hat with the raccoon tail. I guess I should review my American history lessons! In any case, ...
Haman?s Cup Found Under 70 Year Old Briton?s Bed
2008-06-06 20:14:00
OK, that headline was just to grab your attention. I have no way of proving the Cup belonged to Haman from the Purim story in Megillath Esther (or from my 4th grade’s modern adaptation of the biblical story), but one does wonder (or is it that one’s imagination does wander?)….. Anyway, CNN.com reported yesterday that ...

June 6th Holidays - Dunk Your Donut in Gourmet Starbucks & Cafe Godiva Coff
2008-06-06 06:00:00
Donut Day - As Homer Simpson would say - Ummmm, Dooooonuts. Who doesn’t love them? Ever leave a full box lying around the office? It always amazes me how fast they disappear. It’s like watching a nature program where the scavengers swoop down and devour something 10 times their size. Here in the human world, however, most of ...

2008-06-05 06:00:00
World Environment Day - Since it’s such an important issue we’re all facing, today’s holiday is anything but silly. World Environment Day was established by the United Nations all the way back in 1972, so you have to hand it to those dudes for being so ahead of their time! This year’s slogan is “Kick ...
Herb Scallion Drop Biscuits
2008-06-04 23:06:00
These aren’t southern biscuits- notice the absence of shortening, lard, or butter. I made these with olive oil, herbs, and scallions instead. So even though they may not be traditional, they make a fantastic accompaniment to dinner. They are also great eaten the next day for lunch with a side of tomatoes ...

I encourage everyone to literally hit the rocky roads - and I don’t mean pushing the incline button on a sleek treadmill at the health club. ...

EMI Holidays Drive Flat Housing Sales
2008-05-30 08:29:00
Faced with declining demand for properties, real estate developers are courting buyers with a new offer: EMI holidays. This trend is catching up in cities like New Delhi and Bangalore where real estate markets face stagnation. Under an EMI (equated monthly installment) holiday scheme, the buyer only needs to make a down payment of 10-15 per ...
May 31th Holidays - Speak More Good with Language Learning Software Program
2008-05-30 06:00:00
Speak in Complete Sentences Day - This is much harder than it seems. Try it and see how often you stop mid-sentence, or conclude with or…, as in “Are you going out for lunch today, or…?” And “I so didn’t feel like making a lunch, cuz, you know…” I’m kinda guilty. Think I’ll make an ...

2008-05-29 11:17:00
If you’re like most people I’m sure you’ve hardly gotten beyond thinking that you’ll either get a few hundred from the travel agent or perhaps just use a card when you get there. In the first case, you’ll end up spending a small fortune un-necessarily and in the second you could be stuck without any money. ...

Thinking about northern Mexico
2008-05-28 21:33:00
When I think about a vacation in Mexico, it seems to me that it’s the type of place that you need to settle into to really make the best of your time there. For me that rules out a hotel type trip as that always seems to be (often quite literally) a flying visit and ...

Surge In Self Drive Holidays Raises Insurance Questions
2008-05-25 23:15:00
Whether it's the hope of avoiding the stress of airport queues, or an effort to take a greener approach to travel, more people in the UK are likely to opt for a driving holiday this year.According to research from American Express, one in ten Brits are considering taking their family on a driving holiday in Europe, while 32 per cent are thinking about a caravanning holiday and 27 per cent may take a camping holiday if they can get there by car. While this form of travel may offer increased peace of mind, it raises important issues about car insurance.Ensuring you have the correct level of car insurance in place when travelling in Europe is crucial. Many of the UK's leading insurers advertise European cover as part of their policies - but in many cases this level of cover is downgraded. The likes of Barclays, Direct Line, esure and Swiftcover will only grant drivers third party coverage when travelling overseas. If you have comprehensive cover in the UK and want this to be maintaine...

The Agony of Sergeant Merlin German
2008-05-23 06:34:00
As you head out for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Pajamadeen thought she?d share the story of Sgt. Merlin German. Only 19, German had been in Iraq for nine months and was due home in two weeks, when a roadside bomb exploded under his Humvee in Al Anbar province near Ramadi in February 2005. Having sustained burns to 97 percent of his body, he was taken to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, where doctors gave him no chance of survival.
Safe Travel Guide: Safety Tips You
2008-05-22 11:48:00
It is surprising just how often things go wring when you travel, perhaps through unfamiliarity but nevertheless these can be minimized by using some basic tips. Travel can be expensive enough as it is without expensive mistakes which could be avoided, resulting in a dislike for your chosen location and its people. In some instances it is not uncommon for fear to set in and venturing from the relative safety of the hotel room or resort is out of the question. Perhaps it is just that traveling safely requires some common sense and most of the time these days, we do not require it as someone else is always responsible for our mistakes!

Getting Through the Holidays Without Gaining Weight
2008-05-18 22:00:00
"Getting Through the Holidays Without Gaining Weight" was written by Helene Haber.Getting Through the Holidays Without Gaining Weight Now that the holiday season is here, holiday foods and meals take center stage. And this is as it should be. Food is a terrific celebration of friendships, of family and of love. These celebrations do not have to lead you to unhealthy eating habits. With a little advance planning, you can really enjoy your food and the holidays. Remember that the mental attitude you bring to the table is as important as what?s on the table.1. Plan Ahead. Without thinking about what is likely to be served, the best intentions fall by the wayside faster than you can shake a drumstick. If you absolutely cannot pass up the cornbread or cinnamon buns warm from the oven or Aunt Fay?s amazing apple cake, then you need to decide what and how much you will eat so someone does not have to roll you out. If you?re going to eat the apple cake that?s fine, but remember to eat fewer...

Rooster Day- I’ve lived in the same neighborhood for over a decade and believe it or not,  I’ve seen my share of roosters. One family down the street kept a rooster in their shed for a spell. It made quite a shrill alarm clock at five a.m. One day, according to the neighborhood kids, the ...
May 17th Holidays - Be a Meticulous Hoarder with Kitchen Organizers & Media
2008-05-17 06:00:00
Pack Rat Day - Once upon a time, I hoarded everything I owned. I’d keep things until I had no more space to put them. Then I became the polar opposite and started chucking stuff left, right and center. That, I’ve realized, can also be a problem since I toss stuff that I still need. ...

My Holidays in Orlando
2008-05-15 11:01:00
One of the best vacation time I have ever had was during my short stay in Orlando, Florida. With its wonderful warm climate for the whole year, this place is worth visiting at any season. Many of you probably know what are the things to do in Orlando as the city itself is known for its amusement parks like Disneyland or Universal Studios. I will never forget my first visit to Disneyland. Known also as Walt Disney World, this amusement park is located south of Orlando in a place referred to as Lake Buena Vista. It would probably take me a few pages to describe what places in Disneyland I have visited as the park is the world's largest vacation resort. You can go to Orlando with Trusted Tours & Attractions and their famous sightseeing tours. The company offers sightseeing tours in 23 cities in the United States. If you ever wonder what are the things to do in Boston, you can book a trip and start your adventure in Boston to check it out. The company issues a newsletter on a regular b...
