Freedom.  That has been our focus for the last two days.  Do you want to live today in the freedom that Christ makes available?   Then you need to remember the Spirit’s encouragement from Romans 6:12-14. The time may come at some point today when you are strongly tempted by the lusts of your flesh.  ...

Anton Raphael Mengs 1728 - 1779Descent of the Holy Spirit 1751Oil on canvas 46 x 25,5 cmHermitage Museum, St PetersburgMengs, a Classical artist, was strongly influenced by the ideas of the German scholar of the Ancient World, Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717-1768).He was the leading German painter in the second half of the 18th century and exceptionally popular across Europe.Mengs, one of the creators of Neo-Classicism, called upon the artists of Europe to return to "the simplicity and nobility of beautiful antiquity".Daniel Webb in Inquiry into the Beauties of Painting (1760) attempted to summarise Mengs` theory of beauty thus:"Beauty was the perfect expression of an idea, since art was above nature. The ultimate aim of painting lay, therefore, in selecting beautiful subjects found in nature, purified of all imperfection."
GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
2008-04-20 15:38:00
By Andrew Wommack I believe that one of the biggest reasons that the body of Christ hasn’t made a greater impact on our generation today is because of our failure to operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Without a doubt, Jesus and the first apostles used the gifts like a bell, calling men to ...

True discrimination between right and wrong does not then depend on the acuteness of our intelligence, but on the wisdom of the Spirit.J Calvin on Luke 24:16There is no worse screen to block out the Spirit than confidence in our own intelligence. J Calvin on Luke 24:45As God alone is a fit witness of himself in his Word, so also the Word will not find any acceptance in men's hearts before it is sealed by the inward testimony of the Spirit. The same Spirit, therefore, who has spoken by the mouth of the prophets must penetrate into our hearts, to persuade us that they faithfully proclaimed what has been divinely commanded.John Calvin, The Institutes of the Christian Religion [1559]As a man, looking steadfastly on a dial, cannot perceive the shadow move at all, yet viewing it after a while, he shall perceive that it hath moved; so, in the hearing of the Word, but especially in the receiving of the Lord's Supper, a man may judge even his own faith, and other graces of God, to be littl...
The Underappreciated Calvin
2008-01-25 11:10:00
Loved by many, yet hated by more. John Calvin, the great Reformer, has bequeathed us a schizophrenic legacy. He is remembered largely for the movement which carries his name: Calvinism.  Predestination, cold hard logic, spiritual deadness, fatalists.  This is how many view Calvinists today.  Sure there are some who earn such descriptors, yet the historical ...
Work of the Holy Spirit vs the work of Satan
2008-01-25 10:46:00
The work of the Holy Spirit seeks to liberate the human soul from the slavery of spiritual bondage, leading to physical death. In reality this “freedom” is a spiritual, inner freedom, which is expressed in the physical senses by restful sleep, mental clarity, emotional well-being and a feeling of “lightness”. The finished work of the Holy spirit is the restoration of each human spirit/soul to a state of Holiness, this being the original condition of the human spirit at birth. Each soul is born Holy in a “risen” state, but “falls” into captivity resulting from spiritual apathy and engaging in sinful activities. By the eventual return of the spirit to this redemptive, justified state, the inner man is released into the “wide-open spaces” of the heavenly realms where it can enjoy the peace, joy, bliss and fellowship of the Holy angels, including the Lord. The actual vehicle, or “body” for praise and worship, is the human spirit. In other words, the spiritual bod...

Holy Spirit - door way to the supernatural
2007-10-12 14:36:00
The other day, a friend was speaking to me about problems she was having. She was depressed and looking to God for answers. I felt for her, so I asked God, "What do you have for her." What I heard send a shock wave through my entire body. "I'm mad at you right now."That is not something you want to hear from God. I was terrified. I couldn't wait for my friend to leave so I could find out what was the problem. Or did I want to know what was going on. Could I fix what was going on, or was it beyond my reach? After she left I sat down on my front porch & asked God, "What are you mad at me about?" His response, "You are not God to everyone, I am." I thought about this a minute, then asked, "But, God you need to teach me how to teach them to hear you."God reminded me of a book that I read when I first became a Christian. "Holy Spirit Power" by Charles Spurgeon. In the book he mentions praying to the Holy Spirit. Which I did when I early on. God showed me that we (His c...

The Holy Spirit Has And Will Guide Us Into All Truth
2007-06-27 03:43:00
When and if God moves to,what we might call change,He does so,under the former declaration.Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothingwithout revealing his planto his servants the prophets.Amos 3:7And the promise in Amos's discourse has He kept;so we follow His directions till He decides its time to reveal new truths,"not new gospel,"the Holy Spirit has and will guide us into all truth,as we merit new,or renewed light,or responsibility. If it falls into our area of responsibility, and we do not respond then the light indeed has grown dim,or has been extinguished. Some day some of you may have the privilege of seeing it;it will not be necessary to have The Lord's Supper-sacrament,we shall be immersed in,not just His memory of Him but be immersed in His life and service-call it "Zion", "Utopia", "Kingdom On Earth".But,this has to happen before he can accept His bride,"The Church."To bring to pass the immortality and eternal live of man-this is not over night, but line upon line, precept upon ...

A Logical Analysis of the Holy Spirit
2007-06-02 03:26:00
In many of the debates I engage Christians in I frequently hear a defense which essentially ends the debate. One of these is claiming the presence of the Holy Spirit. A generally hard-pressed opponent states that they have felt the Holy Spirit throughout their life and so changing their minds is simply impossible. This is immediately a suspect claim because anyone who comes into a debate with the idea that it is impossible to have their minds changed is not being intellectually honest. I find it somewhat cowardly to expect an opposing view to have an open mind to one’s own argument, while at the same time being unwilling to extend the courtesy themselves; but I digress. The Holy Spirit argument is one that I feel is particularly weak and is at the bedrock of much of the faith that believers hold so dear. In this writing I’ll explore various questions to which I have never received a credible answer. While I do not currently believe a satisfactory answer that does not de...

Woman arrested for being high on Holy Spirit...and a little bit of marijuan
2007-04-12 00:14:00
Holy Spirit and a little bit of marijuana ? Saturday, about 5:20 a.m., Officer Rocky McDaniel was sent to check on a woman walking in the middle of University Blvd., causing drivers to have to go around her. The woman had ?very red bloodshot eyes and very intoxicated on an unknown drug... did not have any normal behavior,? McDaniel wrote in his report. She said she was going to the emergency room to see a friend who had overdosed. When he asked her if she knew why McDaniel stopped her, she stated ?because I was walking in traffic.? Yes, that was correct, and he explained she couldn?t walk in the roadway. Then, he asked her if she was high on some kind of drug. Her answer, the report said, was ?I am. It?s the Holy Spirit and little bit of marijuana.? He asked if she had any left and she said, ?Not enough to get you high, but I know who to go to for more.? McDaniel asked who and she answered, ?Jesus.?She searched herself and produced a glass pipe with a green leafy substance residue, ...
Bible Doctrine :: RE: Baptism of the Holy Spirit
2007-04-01 07:07:00
Author: Eric Subject: The Great Resolver Posted: Sun Apr 01, 2007 12:07 am (GMT -5) I just feel I should say God has resolved this issue. He is so faithful. How would we not want to obey His every command? We should definitely pray that He fills us with the Holy Spirit. The refreshment of the Spirit is always like a breath of fresh air. Let us all go beyond our act of initial obediance to live as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him. Shall we not let His light shine through us? Let's take some ground for Him. May we encourage each other to take the next step, whatever it may be. Be blessed brethren. -Eric
Bible Doctrine :: RE: Discussion: Receiving the Holy Spirit
2007-02-21 21:25:02
Author: Patrick Posted: Wed Feb 21, 2007 7:59 am (GMT -5) If Jesus Christ in person "breathed the Holy Spirit" unto me AFTER His death and resurrection like He did in John 20:22, I would consider THAT my point of salvation, not 10+ days later when the Holy Spirit fell upon the house and everyone in it. That is purely an opinion though. I am looking into this a little more before I make any solid statements. I'm not researching and studying it, but I am reading the Word with many prayers that God will allow me to take from it what I need to. What I am basing this on is my situation. Did I receive the Holy Spirit before being baptized? Maybe. I don't think so. If I did, it was almost dormant with little or no influence in my life. The way it happened for me is that many things happened and I could not deny Gods presence in the world and in my life. That gave me faith and hope. I went for about a year like that, just reading the Bible and listening to s...

Author: Patrick Posted: Sat Feb 10, 2007 8:40 pm (GMT -5) Eric, you know I respect what you say and I know that you would not say it unless you truly believed it. I also shared the same belief until recently because it "made sense" but the more I read in the Bible, the more it does not fit. I also know that you will not change your mind unless there is something written in great detail that lays it out in a manner you cannot deny. I've been deeply immersed in the Word of the Lord to get the best understanding possible and I am working on a paper that covers this topic in great detail. More detail than anything else I have read. The reason I am doing it is for my own full understanding and conviction and also to help explain it tp those who do not see Gods plan for salvation in its fullness. I am discussing this topic with local people who I respect what they say for the purpose of getting a full understanding, however I am not going to discuss this in great detail...

Author: Eric Subject: Baptism & Salvation. Posted: Fri Feb 02, 2007 12:51 pm (GMT -5) Patrick, what I would like you to do is consider the following verses from the Bible and if you believe you should, explain to me what you believe they mean. I'd like you to spend some time looking through the chapters they are in and pay attention to the context of the meaning. Please get in touch with me so we can discuss these issues. I do want you to consider this: you are in the vast minority of Christians who believe in the NECESSITY of a water baptism for SALVATION. Almost all who have studied the Bible since we've had the printing press believe in justification by faith ALONE and not by ANY works. Think about that... Anyway, read these verses and try to reason with them. Pray...
