Top Ten Chicago Multi-Home Run Games
2009-07-09 09:00:00 By: Eddie RybarskiI went for a run at the middle school track by my house last night. A little league baseball game was taking place within view of the track. Each time I made the turn facing the field, I watched the youngsters; hoping for some cheap entertainment. Eleven laps and all I saw was a bloop single to center. I should have been watching the Sox game. Last night, Paul Konerko achieved one of the studliest feats in baseball by blasting three home runs in a game. See kids? This is what men do. Three home runs in a game. Need more examples? Fine. 10. Moises AlouJuly 4, 2003Three Alou blasts lit up the crowd at Wrigley. Never doubt...

Home Run City! Boston 13 Tampa Bay 5
2008-09-16 11:18:00 The Boston Red Sox had their home run bats swinging freely Monday night in Florida as they bashed the Devil Rays by a score of 13-5. A four run first inning, including a three run shot by Big Papi David Ortiz, launched the Red Sox into a share of first place but they are one game back in the loss column. This is what Mike Lowell had to say after the convincing victory...?It helps in the first inning when David hits a three-run home run, that?s a good feeling starting the game off,? said Mike Lowell, who added a solo home run two batters later. ?I think we did a good job of keeping the intensity and keep scoring runs because these are all-important games for us. They?re very important because it?s an important series. It?s a good statement game for us. We haven?t won a game in this park this year. We swung the bats real well today. We hit the long ball a lot better than we have all year; that?s a good sign.?Josh Beckett will take the mound tonight as Boston goes for sole position of ...

Comment on Peña’s 3-Run Home Run In 14th Wins It For Rays by Ian
2008-09-11 23:14:00 he put Ellsbury in for Coco last night to get Ellsbury some time since it’d been a few days. I do agree in that he may have used Coco the wrong way late in the game last night. Another problem that cropped up was the fact that Drew’s back spasmed up last night so he couldn’t go to him. And you have to wonder why he didn’t use Casey as a pinch-hitter.

No way Hillary hit a home run with her speech. No how!
2008-08-27 18:51:00 If you've heard that used as a metaphor for Senator Clinton's speech on August 26th in Denver, you've been misled (as so often happens with metaphors) and the Senator from New York's been done a disservice. While pundits love sports metaphors, and admittedly America loves a home run, in the rarefied, thin air last night what Hillary engineered and delivered was much, much more.I spent the evening in one of the 30 precious seats reserved inside the arena for bloggers approved and credentialed though the Democratic National Committee. Not great seats, bloggers are not by any means treated with the same respect as established commercial media, and our access is controlled by well-meaning volunteers who don't seem to have the same answer one moment to the next, but one can measure and sense the crowd - and this crowd was ready for Hillary's night in the spotlight. On the heels of a moment of silence for recently deceased U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio and a review of othe...

MANNY'S 500th Home Run! Boston 6 Baltimore 3
2008-06-01 11:30:00 It was a festive night at Camden Yards (Fenway Park south) in Baltimore Saturday night as the Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles for the second time in two nights. The score was 6-3, good guys. When Manny Ramirez came up in the seventh inning, the many Sox fans in the stands knew that with one swing of his bat, baseball history could be made. The loud crack of bat against ball was clearly audible to all the lucky ones in attendance, and the ball traveled 415 feet to the right centerfield stands, right into the hands of a Red Sox fan who was gracious enough to give the ball to its rightful owner in exchange for a few autographed baseballs and bats. Quite a remarkable show of generosity and respect, if you ask me. Even Manny's wife was in the stands, and she was beaming. That the Sox won the game was just like icing on the cake. Sweet icing indeed, the kind that melts in your mouth with a blast of super sweetness. Here's what the MAN himself said after the game..."It was great, ...

Umps botch home run call at Yankee Stadium again
2008-05-22 16:08:00 For the second time in three games at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, umpires missed a home run call that could have been made correctly with the use of instant replay. On Sunday, they negated a homer by the Mets' Carlos Delgado. This time, the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez was robbed the New York Times reported. Rodriguez, who had homered in the third inning of an eventual 8-0 victory, came up in the sixth against Baltimore's Lance Cormier. He drove a ball to right-center field, and it rose until caroming off a yellow staircase to the bleachers. The ball bounced back to the field and was ruled to be in play. Rodriguez, who had slid safely into second, protested. The umpires conferred but did not reverse the call. Asked if he had seen a replay, the crew chief Tim Welke said, "We just did and we made a mistake."Replays showed the ball striking the side of the staircase a few feet behind the fence and perhaps four feet above it. Welke explained that the umpires thought the ball had hit the ...

Obama / Wright NY Times Editorial Is a Home Run
2008-04-30 16:38:00 Today's NY Times Editorial on Senator Barack Obama's angry response to Rev. Jeremiah Wright's appearance at the National Press Club was a home run. I too was not happy with Rev. Wright's presentation, complete with the "dog" pose after he answered one question. While the media questions were also stupid and race-batting, Rev. Wright lowered himself to their level. But what hurt most was seeing Wright throw Senator Obama under the bus, when Obama took great pains to protect Pastor Wright even in Obama's landmark speech on race, a response to initial criticism about the former leader of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Help Your Employees Hit a Home Run!
2008-04-02 06:32:00 It’s opening day for the Major League and managers are looking over their spring training lineups to decide on which players will help them get to the World Series. Your goal as a small business owner is to build a successful business which can only happen if training occurs. Your employees will make up your lineup and with the proper training they can help your business hit a home run.Setting the standards upfront is a critical aspect of building a good team. A baseball manager usually sits down a player in his office and figures out the goals that player is aspiring to reach. The skipper also explains to the player his or her goals for the team and how they see that player helping the team reach that goal. This is no different for a business owner talking to a team of employees. From the very beginning you as a manger need to clarify the goals of the company and how that particular employee will help your company meet those goals. These goals will cure any ambiguity for your emp...
