What To Do With Brett Cecil?
2011-10-04 11:00:00 Brett Cecil. You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here (in the rotation). After leading the team in wins last season with 15, Brett Cecil’s performance regressed in 2011. Struggling to find respectable fastball velocity, Cecil was demoted to AAA during the season to try to fix his many mechanical …

How about some power Manny? We here at the White Sox like HOME RUNS
2010-09-07 08:05:00 Manny Ramirez is nothing if not an astute, professional hitter. For someone so wild in appearance, behavior, and mannerisms, who could very possibly be a brilliant psychopath, he is extremely disciplined, and rarely tries to take more than is offered to him by the pitcher. Late in his fourth at-bat Monday versus the Tigers with the White Sox still trailing in the 7th inning, I saw Manny blatantly overswing for the fences for his first time with the team. For contrast, Andruw Jones overswings so often that he's a risk to fall over and break his arm one of these days.
Red Sox Overcome Their Tropicana Field Woes With 6 Home Runs In 13-5 Win
2008-09-16 05:21:00 The Boston Red Sox entered tonight’s game at Tropicana Field winless in 6 games this season. Home Runs Power Red Sox Victory...Boston Red Sox 6 Toronto Blue Jays 5
2008-08-25 11:12:00 This was an exciting game! Sunday afternoon in Toronto, the Red Sox and the Blue Jays played the final game of their three game set, and Boston emerged victorious by a score of 6-5. Five of their runs came from the long ball, with Pedy Pedroia hitting a crucial three run bomb to left in the third inning off a neck high pitch from starter AJ Burnett. They scored four runs that inning, but the Blue Jays went ahead 5-4 after six. It was time for some heroics, as this game was viewed as a big one by every Sox player. And Coco Crisp delivered in the seventh with a solo home run to tie that all important score. It stayed tied as the beleagered Boston bullpen came through with five scoreless innings. Now that's priceless! And then came the eleventh, and Jed Lowrie promptly hit the game winning home run to right center. Little Manny Delcarmen relieved Jonathon Papelbon, who had breezed through the ninth and tenth innings, needing only 16 pitches. And Manny came through and the Red Sox, bat...

Five Multi Position Players Who Will Score Double Digit Home Runs And Stole
2008-02-15 21:30:00 Versatility rocks!!! A hitter who can play multiple positions is uber-valuable for a manager. What’s important for a fantasy GM is if that player qualifies for multiple positions. There are more than 50 hitters out there that have played in 15+ games at, at least, two positions, which qualifies them for both positions in most leagues. However, there are only five players who… Qualify at two or more positions Have the power to hit double digit home runs Have the speed to rack up double digits in stolen bases Here they are, ranked by Average Draft Position supplied by Mock Draft Central. B.J. Upton | Tampa Bay Rays | ADP: 22.92 (late 2nd round) | 2B/OF - Posted slash stats of .300/.384/.508 while launching 24 home runs and swiping 22 bases in 2007. But, a few of his other numbers (high strikeout rate of 32.5%, low contact rate of 68% and a very high BABIP of .399) lead me to believe that his numbers are inflated. You can still expect 18+ home runs and 25+ stolen bases ...

Adam Dunn Changing his Tune?
2007-11-07 22:47:00 Adam should get 500 HR Dunn As I was looking over the second half HR leaders, I stopped and doubled checked a line on Adam Dunn. He had a great second half, with a .985 OPS, 16 HR & 48 RBI. What really stuck out was (once again), his SO/BB ratio. We all know that Dunn loves to hack away, as evidenced by his strikeout reputation. But now check out his 2007 month by month splits, with special emphasis on his walks & strikeouts. The walks went up, that’s pretty plain to see. The ratio was also dramatically improved, with Dunn striking out only four more times than he walked in the second-half. That’s a drastic turnaround. Proving to me that this wasn’t a fluke is the month by month comparison in strikeouts. Counting down we start at April with 32, 41,25,28,23 and finally 16. All the while the walks (again starting in April) go from 14,16,9,19,26, and finish at 14. Granted, he missed time in September, but the trend still exists. The first and second hal...

Second Half Surprises - Home Runs
2007-09-26 20:38:00 Let's take a look at some surprising home run outputs in the season's final three months. "); // --> Carlos Pena - 25. I just have to mention him here to express awe that this guy hit 40+ homers. He's hit at least six home runs in every full month he's played so it'd be hard to call for fewer than 35 next year. Pat Burrell - 21. That includes a 10 HR August. You can probably continue to draft him as a 30-100 guy. Chris Young - 21. We thought he had 20-25 HR power but not 40 HR power. Couple things to note: he's consistently stolen bases every month, and he's begun to draw walks at a decent pace in recent months. I think he'll hit above .260 next year. Josh Fields - 20. Keeps getting better each month. Would be nice to see him swipe 10 bags to make up for an average that will remain low. But owners won't complain if he jacks 35 next year. Adrian Beltre - 16. Have you noticed Beltre's line? .281-26-99-85-14....

Ninth Inning Home Runs Assure The Red Sox A Win...And A Clinch For The Play
2007-09-23 12:06:00 Boom! BOOM! And just like that, in the ninth inning Saturday night, the Boston Red Sox forged ahead to an 8-6 lead and Jonathon Papelbon started warming up in the bullpen for the bottom of that frame. And 12 pitches later, it was ovah!! SOX WIN, and better yet, they clinched a playoff berth....no ifs, ands or buts. They're in. Of course, winning the AL East would be so nice, but that will have to wait as they try to win all seven of their remaining games. Were it not for the ineptitude of the Toronto Blue Jays, who blew a 2 run lead over the Yankees in the bottom of the ninth, the Sox would be up by 3 1/2 games instead of 2 1/2. But an error by the Jays' second baseman let the tying two runs score, and the pinstripers went on to win the game in 10. Oh well, enough about them.Daisuke Matsuzaka was good until the seventh inning, when he walked Velandia and Iwamura. His night was done, and the score at the time, with 2 on and 2 out, was 5-3 Sox. A quality start, albeit with a ton of ...

Top 3 Mets Home Runs of All-Time

The first team: The New York Mets Here are their top 3 Met Home Runs of All-Time as decided by ESPN. 3. Mike Piazza's September 21, 2001 Home Run to give Mets 3-2 lead over Braves. It was the first game after 9/11 and the Mets would hold on for the exciting victory. 2. Ray Knight's 1986 World Series Game 7 Home Run to give the Mets the lead against the Red Sox. They would not give that lead up and held on for the championship. 1.Todd Pratt's walkoff homer in the 10th inning of the 1999 Division Series to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks in game 4 and send the Mets to the NLCS. I'm really interested to see what other people think about this. Personally, I think there were some other great home runs throughout the Mets history that could've made the list. But these 3 shots were definately huge. It's so grea...
