Another Beautiful Thing from Obama (ABTFO): Homeless Woman Given Home
2009-02-11 21:07:00
Yesterday, she was homeless. Today she has a home. Yesterday, she was unknown. Now her name is on the lips of people across the country. Henrietta Hughes. Has a nice ring to it. Ms. Hughes asked President Obama (also has a nice ring to it) for help with her homelessness at a town hall meeting in Florida where Obama was drumming up support for his stimulus package. She and her son, who was a computer programmer, lost their home when the son got laid off. They have been living in their small car and hanging out in parks for "a long time."Just so happened that the wife of the Florida State Representative, Ms. Chene Thompson, heard Ms. Hughes call for help and offered a solution: her own first home.See Ms. Hughes pleas here. This made me cry. And another happy ending.

Fw: Fresno Homeless Christmas

Thx Paul. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile -----Original Message----- From: Paul_Calkins@oes.ca.gov Date: Mon, 8 Dec 2008 09:47:00 To: <xipnek@aol.com> Cc: <fotogGene@comcast.net> Subject: Fresno Homeless Christmas Ken, I was in my typical hurry, to answer calls and pages when I ran across this scene on the Mariposa Mall in front of the Fresno City Hall. I was struck by the contrasts. You can see a small make-shift Christmas Tree complete with lights, a wreath toping this humble symbol of the season that had been set by the homeless. You also see a little tea pot hooked up to the same electrical outlet as the tree. In addition the base of the very tall and highly decorated Christmas Tree in front of the city hall can be seen in the background. The simple little gesture by the homeless gave me pause, it brought back to me the very humble beginnings for which we celebrate Christmas. Ohio: Judge Declares Homeless Voters Can Declare Park Benches As And Addres
2008-10-29 02:52:00
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? A federal judge in Ohio has ruled that counties must allow homeless voters to list park benches and other locations that aren't buildings as their addresses.U.S. District Judge Edmund Sargus also ruled that provisional ballots can't be invalidated because of poll worker errors.Monday's ruling resolved the final two pieces of a settlement between the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless and Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner. The coalition agreed to drop a constitutional challenge to Ohio's voter identification law until after the Nov. 4 election. In return, Brunner and the coalition agreed on procedures to verify provisional ballots across all Ohio counties. The coalition was concerned that unequal treatment of provisional ballots would disenfranchise some voters.SOURCE

Do the homeless drink our blood at night?
2008-05-04 10:50:00
There is a point when desperation stops being French and romantic and becomes something much more real and scary. Is it so surprising to think then that maybe the homeless, displaced, and down trodden of the streets just might drink our blood at night? And if they do, is that so bad? Can you really blame them?Sure, maybe they?re a little dated. It seems that the dark, horny, beauty of draculas in the 90s has been replaced by the swashbuckling flamboyance of pirates in the 00s. As Anne Rice made room for Roller Coaster rides the importance of blood and blood drinking was lost and now may be found in a less desirable place, on the dirty and dry lips of those retched wrecked souls called the walking homeless, those modern day street roaming nomads, those transient vagrants, the homeless. Gone is the once kind playfulness of the run down tramp, and replacing that once romantic life of freedom and carelessness a life overflowing with the horrors and sadness of vampirism, night walk...
