Should ACC hoops split into divisions?
2008-05-07 05:25:00
Column by Patrick Hite patrick@accnation.com Poll: What format would you like to see? The ACC’s athletics directors will discuss a possible 18-game schedule for men’s basketball at next week’s spring meetings. So far, I’ve seen just one benefit from an 18-game schedule - the ACC can line its pocket a little more. With the additional games, it’s hard to ...
Gamecocks? top hoops star arrested
2008-05-06 05:58:00
LEADING SCORER DOWNEY CHARGED WITH ON-CAMPUS ASSAULT For the University of South Carolina’s athletics program, the off-the-field legal problems have just been extended to the basketball court. News has just broken that Devan Downey, the sophomore who led the Gamecocks in scoring last year, was arrested Monday on a simple assault charge. We spoke with USC spokesman Russ McKinney, who said early last week around lunchtime Downey and another USC student got into an argument at the Russell House on campus. McKinney described the incident as “very minor.” Campus police investigated, and at the time, the student decided they didn’t want to press charges against Downey. That student changed their mind Monday, and Downey found himself at Richland County’s Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. [WIS] Unlock the football players arrested, Downey is a major star. He’s easily USC’s best player and one of the best in the Southeastern Conference. To call this...

Wheel Tags : Self Expression for the Hoops
2008-04-28 02:59:00
Not everyone agrees with the so-called 'stealth' look of plain deep rims. Atleast not a company called Wheel Tags and its customers. The brainchild of three avid cyclists, Wheeltags was the ultimate solution to melding passions, experience, friendship and intuitive design. Kevin Koval, Matt Tanner and Jenn Vona created Wheeltags with an eye on today?s bicycling industry and the thrust of customization and personalization into commercial markets.Inspiration came when a business acquaintance at Roark Custom Titanium Bicycles asked Matt to assist him with a custom disc wheel design. Although airbrushing was the standard method of obtaining unique colors and shapes (with impressive coverage), the Wheeltags team quickly realized there had to be a better way. Unmatched in durability and ease of application, vinyl lettering and full-press printing could offer bike rims the opportunity to finally stand out amid the grim, gray rolling masses.Read more here.I want one that'll say "Follow me...

Look Ahead to the 2008-2009 College Hoops Season
2008-04-21 06:40:00
We all know the 2007-2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Season just finished. But there are a lot of us anticipating next season already. With a lot of young talent out there this past season, next year should be just as exciting!Let's take a look at some of the top teams for 2008-2009:UNC Tar HeelsEven though they could still lose Tyler Hansbrough, Tywon Lawson, and Wayne Ellington to the NBA, I really doubt they will all leave; one will be the most that leaves, even if that. Hansbrough will likely be back and Lawson's stock is down. Even if Lawson bolts injured PG Bobby Frasor is back and Danny Green is a very capable player as well. They only lose Quentin Thomas for sure and Deon Thompson and Alex Stephenson will be good as well.UCLA BruinsThey could still lose a lot. Kevin Love has already announced he is going to the NBA, same with Russell Westbrook, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (which puzzles me). But Moute will likely be back, Westbrook could too. Josh Shipp, Alfred Aboya, Michael...

Stone highlights a number pertinent points that should be followed when formulating a strategic vision - a few of which are: Have a clear vision around which the whole business (i.e., every department) is designed The vision should be able to be communicated simply to everyone (employees and suppliers) Have a strong group of people around you to help you achieve your strategy (vision) Have an understanding of what the vision means for every level of the business Revisit the vision often Remain true to your vision. Stone points to a recent su...
