What really happened in the Straits of Hormuz?
2008-01-18 20:37:00
Did you see the initial reports on this incident? 5 gunboats approached one of our Navy groups. Gunboats? What is that? Is that a destroyer? Is that a PT boat like McHale’s Navy? I suspect that everyone remembers the damage that even a small boat can do to one ...
YouTube: Iran Shows Their View of the Hormuz Incident
2008-01-16 01:14:00
The US released a video earlier this week that showed Iranian speedboats harassing three US Navy ships. However, now Iran has released a video of their own, and says that their actions were standard procedure. I don?t think Iran?s video provides much justification, but here it is anyways.
The Strait of Hormuz Incident and U.S. Strategy
2008-01-15 15:54:00
Iranian speedboats reportedly menaced U.S. warships in the Strait of Hormuz on Jan. 6. Since then, the United States has gone to great lengths to emphasize the threat posed by Iran to U.S. forces in the strait ? and, by extension, to the transit of oil from the Persian Gulf region. The revelation of an ...

Strait of Hormuz
2008-01-11 23:33:00
Fred Kaplan asks:What Happened in the Strait of Hormuz? Just how serious was the half-hour standoff Sunday morning between three American warships and five Iranian speed boats in the Strait of Hormuz? Did we come close to war? Was there any provocation? Was the Pentagon's version of events, as the Iranians claim, a fake?In response to the Iranians' charge, the Defense Department released excerpts from a videotape of the incident. In response to that, the Iranians issued their own video. Both clips are strange. They are also very different from each other. There's a good reason, however, for the strangeness and the contradictions. The Pentagon's footage shows five speed boats making provocative maneuvers a couple of hundred yards from an American warship. Speaking in English over the standard radio frequency, a U.S. Navy officer identifies his ship. Suddenly, an Iranian voice, in heavily accented English, is heard saying, "I am coming to you. You will explode in [unintelligible] m...

Conspiracy Wearyist? Hormuz Was A PsyOp Aimed at the American People
2008-01-11 01:38:00
Known Facts1. Un-named Pentagon and Naval officials made a decision to combine this audio with this video.2. At the time they combined the video, said officials were still trying to determine if the transmission came from the speedboats or elsewhere. 3. The Fars news agency had said that the confrontation had been fabricated to present Iran as a threat to its neighbors before Mr. Bush’s trip so he could justify United States forces in the gulf.4. No explanations have been offered as to why the decision was made to combine audio of questionable provenance so as to create the impression of a dangerous situation.5. No mention is made by Naval or Pentagon officials of the fact that the US war ships were trolling very close to Iranian territory and were, in fact, in waters claimed by the Iranians as territorial.6. The press has breathlessly repeated assertions from un-named officials that the Naval commanders were on the verge of firing upon the speed boats. Not so. In its story cov...
Strait Of Hormuz Update: Was It Normal Or Never Happened?
2008-01-10 19:11:00
OK, newest update of info that I could find about the Strait of Hormuz incident. In my UPDATE Article yesterday, I just listed more basic info which included the ships reportedly involved and some video footage. It also included some statements by Iranian Representatives. But now we seem to have some contradictions that need to be addressed. In yesterdays article, I noted "So far, Iran has denounced the video as fabricated. The state-run Press TV quoted a spokesman for Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy as saying that the video "had been compiled using file pictures and the audio had been fabricated." Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman downplayed the incident earlier, calling it "normal." "The case ... was similar to the past ones and it was a regular and natural issue," Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said."Okay, so something happened, and the U.S. was just blowing it out of proportion then? Okay, I can roll with that. At least we know that there was SOME KIND of occurrence, but it wasn't all ...
Hormuz Incident?A Mistake Or A Provocation?
2008-01-09 22:54:00
Reports of Iranian speed boats darting around US vessels, of Americans ready to blast them out of the water, and President Bush taking his normal high road of rhetoric created a moment of anxiety in an area overwhelmed by anxiety. Secretary of State Condi Rice said the incident “was provocative, and that kind of provocation ...
Update: Confrontation In The Strait Of Hormuz
2008-01-09 19:05:00
Okay, this is just a general update of information about the confrontation between U.S. warships and the Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz.First off, here is the four minute, twenty second video released by the Pentagon. The easiest find was an upload by user Niteflyte6 on YouTube. The video was taken from the bridge area of one of the U.S. warships. There is additional video on CNN.com HERE.The Pentagon has identified the three U.S. ships as the guided missile destroyer USS Hopper DDG-70, the guided missile cruiser USS Port Royal CG-73 and the guided-missile frigate USS Ingraham DD-444.Apparently, the "box-like" objects dropped in the water by the Iranian boats, in the path of the U.S. warships DID float and were white in color. They were not retrieved as their contents were unknown. It's still unknown at this time if the transmissions received by the U.S. warships originated from the Iranian boats themselves, another boat in the area or from a land based communicator. It should...
