2007-05-05 00:00:00
She's been sort of silent on H.R. 1592, leaving Matt Barber to (outrageously) speak for the Concerned Women For America about the proposed hate crimes protections. However, CWA president Wendy Wright has finally weighed in with this doozy of a...

Young at Heart Chorus
2007-03-15 02:34:00
Young@Heart ChorusIts hard to believe this group has been around for 25 years. their ages: 3 to 4 times that. http://www.youngatheartchorus.c-om/index.phpIts not just just their ages, but the artists they cover: pearl jam, strokes, flaming lips, coldplayhttp://www.myspace.com/-youngatheartchorusThey are something worth knowing about. 70-90 year olds covering current songs. The thing is, they are too good, they are too with it. this is nothing like I would expect at my grandmother's old nursing home. theres no follies, no missing teeth, no pureed food droop, and the smell is nowhere to be found, this is just the older generation singing today's hits. still worth seeing once. And if they ever come to NYC, I'm front row.

One must take their hat off to any band that namedrops Serge Gainsbourg?s right hand man, Jean-Claude Vannier, in their press release, and actually earns that distinction. The Earlies? beguilingly layered, hyper-dark, sophomore opus, ‘The Enemy Chorus’, takes everything that was great about their debut (’These Were the Earlies’) — namely, wacky epic sized production, ...

The Bosphorus l ISTANBUL
2006-10-16 21:39:03
The Bosphorus Tour ferry sails north from Istanbul, up the Bosphorus, almost to the Black Sea, then back again. Along the way it stops at the small ferry ports that dot the coast, letting you get off at whichever suburbs and villages you care to visit. The landscape you see is wooded hills, dilapidated waterside estates out of a different era, sleek modern estates very much of the present, and the occasional palace and castle. A random anecdote: At some point men who really want to sell you yogurt board the boat. “Yogurt yogurt yogurt yogurt yogurt yogurt yogurt yogurt yogurt!” they holler and repeat. They are very excited. Their every movement and expression insists that you will be less of a person if you do not try their yogurt. A friend explained to me that the neighborhood from which these sellers hail (I think it is called Kanlica) is known for its yogurt. Mystery solved. (I tried a spoonful of someone else’s yogurt. Guess what? Plain yogurt.) Some more conc...
