A Symbol for Hospitality
2008-05-16 14:59:00 The pineapple has been a symbol of hospitality since the days of the early American colonies. The legend began with the sea captains of New England, who sailed among the Caribbean Islands and returned to the colonies bearing their cargo of fruits, spices, and rum. According to the legend, the captain would spear a pineapple on a fence post outside his home to let his friends know of his safe return from the sea. The pineapple was an invitation for them to visit, share his food and drink, and listen to tales of his voyage. As the tradition grew, colonial innkeepers added the pineapple to their signs and advertisements, and bedposts carved in the shape of a pineapple were a common sight at inns across new England. The legend has continued to the present, and frequently one sees the pineapple symbol in hotels and restaurants to signal the presence of hospitality. The Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Motel Association has chosen the pineapple symbol of hospital...
South African Bo-Karoo a Place Of Unique Friendliness, Hospitality And Wond
2008-05-13 20:08:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In the Bo-Karoo, the windmill pumps stand alone at the end of the day that brings a explosion of orange, red and gold. Not many people live in the Bo-Karoo. The water in this area comes at a premium. "You need to be born here to live here." This is a quote from Old Oom Scalk in Priska. This is the Bo-Karoo (Upper Karoo) where a wilderness plateau covers the southern region and the Orange River forms the northern boundary. This area is south of Johannesburg and north from Cape Town. The name Karoo was given to the area by the local Hottentots that means [the place of big drought]. The dry arid landscape is covered with a variety of succulents and can be viewed, all at once, at the Ria Huisamen Aloe Garden in Prieska and near Marydale in the North West. The Quiver Tree Forest is a must see for visitors to the Bo-Karoo. Because of the sparse vegetation game viewing is wonderful.Rate and Review : South African Bo-Karoo a Place Of Unique Friendliness, H...

Tibet, the Beijing Olymics & hospitality of a country
2008-04-27 13:59:00 We read ever so often about the Beijing Olympics, the protests by the Tibetans, human rights , separatists and all related news. Now I am not into politics but am a firm believer in human rights. However this article has nothing to do with any of above. It is about an issue that really bothers me as a citizen of India and that is the hospitality that has been offered by my country to a visitor has been taken for granted. When you are guest in some one's house you abide and respect the rules and expectations of that house and its owners. Well that is what really bothers me about the Tibetan protests and their attempts to stop the Olympic flame going thru India. Tibetans have been given refuge in India and our they are welcomed guests but their protests in Delhi left a unhappy taste in my mouth. When the Olympic flame arrived in Delhi , huge security arrangements had to be made to ensure all went well and the Tibetan protesters would not be able stop it. Not only was this a huge overl...

Hospitality Properties (HPT): A good night's sleep
2008-04-03 07:00:00 "In bear markets, a traditional safe haven for investors has been to seek out stocks with high dividend yields and ideally the potential for share-price appreciation," notes Bill Martin (ccount/click.php?id=1881).In his exceptional trading and investing service, BullMarket.com (ccount/click.php?id=1881), he notes, "One of our favorites for income is Hospitality Properties Trust (quote.htm?sym=hpt) (NYSE: HPT (quote.htm?sym=hpt)), a real estate investment trust, which offers an 8.5% yield."Hospitality Properties Trust invests in hotels and travel centers, the latter being otherwise known as truck stops. If it doesn't sound very glamorous, this REIT nonetheless currently pays a $3.08 a share annual dividend, good for a pre-tax 8.5% yield with the stock trading in the mid-$30s range."It buys hotels principally for income and secondarily for appreciation potential. All of its properties are run under long-term combination agreements that usually require the operators to pay the com...

Hospitality hopes for better infrastructure
2008-02-06 13:30:00 MUMBAI: Rising hotel room rates may be pinching consumers, but hospitality majors are not complaining. It is possibly one of the most vibrant sectors in a buoyant Indian economy. Several domestic and global players are rushing to claim a pie of this market on the back of a huge supply-demand imbalance across cities. Among the future room supply in major cities, Bangalore is expected to get the maximum supply of rooms at 14,698, followed by Mumbai at 11,732, Delhi at 9,869 rooms, Hyderabad at 9,810 rooms and Pune 9,360 rooms. The continued demand-supply imbalance has led to exponential rate increases, resulting in inflated room rates across key markets in the country. “The growing IT and ITeS footprint across tier I and II locations and the lack of suitable facilities are driving the need for different class of hotels,” Homi Aibara of Aibara Consultants said. According to estimates of the World Travel and Trade Council, Indian tourism demand will grow at 8.8% between 2004 and 201...

2008-02-02 20:21:00 By Vipin Agnihotri Private equity players in India are focusing at hospitality sector and education firms at this moment of time. Not so long ago, IT, manufacturing, banking and engineering were the preferred choice for private equity investors. On the other hand, in the energy sector, private equity investors have invested more than $250 million across 11 deals over the past nine months. In my opinion, power and power utility services are the most vibrant sub-segments of energy sector. It has been noticed that hotel sector is attracting plenty of private equity investors.
