Bob Barr in the Houston Chronicle www.chron.comLibertarian candidate Barr says 2008 is 3rd-party year By ANGELA K. BROWNAssociated Press FORT WORTH, Texas — Americans are so fed up with the country's direction and worsening problems that this is the year they'll send a third-party candidate to the White House, Libertarian presidential nominee Bob Barr said Saturday. Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia, said at the Libertarian Party of Texas convention that he is asking citizens: "Have you had enough? ... I think this year, in this cycle, in this election, the answer will be yes." The luncheon crowd of about 125 gave Barr a standing ovation. In the parking lot, one pickup's bumper sticker read: "No more Republicrats. Choose freedom." Barr said polls show that Americans "by a distressingly large margin" feel the nation is on the wrong track. "They are desperate for change, desperate for something that will rekindle their hope. That's an opportunity that we have ...

Houston Chronicle Letters All in Favor of Photo ID
2008-05-10 18:36:00
The top line of today's Letters to the Editor in the Houston Chronicle reads:All in favor of photo IDs. Adamantly! Tenaciously! Obstinantely! Stupidly! In all four of these letters one can see that here in Dumbutt, Texas not much thinking goes on at or off The Range. On a related story, yesterday a man sitting his chair at a KOA campground suddenly went cold as an AR-15 round slammed into his stomach ending his day and life. Again an AR-15 assault rifle from a loud and often used makeshift gun range bordering on the campground. Good place for a range! Lot's of thought went into that as it was being used for years without anyone thinking to complain.Back to the letters. Though are ofthem are full of what we now call nativism a few paragraphs jumped off the page at me."I'd go a step further . Voters should be given a test to make sure they understand the issues. A small number of informed voters will result in better electoral decisions..." Mike BeckWow hey! Voting Righ...

Bad news, bad news from Houston Chronicle
2007-11-09 16:08:00
The Houston Chronicle has always been known for being a good paper when it comes to running comic strips. However, in a notice dated yesterday, they’ve announced major changes, and that they have “good news, bad news on comics”. The good news is that they’ll run one page of their weekday comics in color, the bad news is… they’re dropping a full page of comics from the printed newspaper (these will still be available online, however). Personally, I consider this only to be bad news. Daily comic strips aren’t meant to be printed in color! This all shows us (yet again) that newspaper comics are dying a slow, painful death, along with the medium they’re printed in. Technorati Tags: Comic Strips, Comics, Newspapers
