To Pilot A Homebuilt Hovercraft Is Fun And Easy
2008-03-07 12:36:00 Hovercrafts are modeled according to the principles applied in an aircraft. Most of its benefits are attributed to air dynamics. Although it looks like it’s floating on water as how a boat would, it’s actually floating. When it starts moving, the correct term is gliding just as a plane would glide through the air. Hence, whether it’s a homebuilt hovercraft or a commercial hovercraft vessel, the person steering the wheel is appropriately called a pilot. Unlike maneuvering vehicles like boats or automobiles, a homebuilt hovercraft is steered as how a helicopter is piloted. The engine is usually controlled by a throttle. To maneuver, a handle that works similarly as how a joystick work is used for the rudder. This simple mechanism allows you to pilot the hovercraft with ease. At first attempt, expect it to be a little bit challenging to do. Since hovercrafts are run via air cushion, there is no contact to the water or ground surface below. Thus there is much ...

Hovercraft made from PC Fans
2008-02-14 09:38:00 Today we found a video of a Hovercraft made from PC Fans, while the invention is pretty cool, the video quality is lacking. The homemade gadget uses 2 fans; one of them is for thrust similar to a normal hovercraft. Although it?s far from practical, if you got some old PC fans lying around it looks ...

Hovercraft calculations
2007-11-28 14:58:00 I am making a hovercraft and need to know how big to make it based on the size of the fan. I know the amount of airflow and the amount of pressure that the fan can produce, and I would like to know what size hovercraft that would make it possible to carry the most weight.
Hovercraft that can fly!
2007-10-29 08:16:00 New Zealand mechanic Rudy Heeman has developed a hovercraft with the ability to lift- off, leaving other water based craft in its wake. Heeman has spent the last eleven years building a hovercraft. Its' optimum height is about 4ft 6in above the water. The hoverwing sets off like a normal-hovercraft but when it reaches top speed of 60mph, its wings can be extended and it takes flight. Rudy Heeman feels that there may be a commercial market for his creation-the hoverwing. He feels that his invention is an extremely efficient method of transport, travelling at about 6ft over the water and reaching speeds of over 60mph across the surface.Officially this invention is a 'wing in ground effect vehicle' - a hovercraft which is able to fly due to a set of unusual aerodynamics. The first test flight ended in a crash landing. He escaped with a bruised leg and and it was back to the drawing board. But after hours of tinkering he made the necessary adjustments and now believes the hoverwing i...

Hovercraft On Show At Seattle!
2007-09-06 09:48:00 Remember back in June when I was snooping around that old abandoned house in my neighborhood and musing about Elvis? Well, in that house I also uncovered this rather odd artifact: an old crumpled piece of paper trumpeting a hovercraft demonstration at the British Pavilion at the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair. Now I know this ...

I was able to board in Portobello, Edinburgh fairly easily for the 9.30 crossing. The take off is pretty noisy and creates a lot of water spray and sand swirl. The hovercraft is much faster ...

Back to the Future: Personal Hovercraft From 1960
2007-02-15 11:23:01 The Autopian dream has taken many forms over the years. In 1960, apparently, it included personal hovercraft. Steve Lodefink’s Finkbuilt presents a lineup of these hybrids of autonomy and technology culled from the June 1960 issue of Popular Science. One of Lodefink’s readers comments on the 1959 Curtiss-Wright model 2500 “Bee” (AKA “Air-Car”) prototype, shown here. ... |
