Howard Zinn, Left's Favorite Historian Now Proven Member of US Communi
2010-08-02 18:00:00 -By Warner Todd Huston Howard Zinn (1922 to 2010) is the left's favorite contemporary historian. As an historian he is a child of the Beardian revolution yet he has for decades been able to straddle that line between legitimate historical observer and anti-American leftist. America's intellectual society, in both the social movement and universities, have looked to him as a paragon of American virtue. He's always been held up as just the right mixture of American leftism coupled with true scholarship. But those of us on the right that have paid attention understand that he is not American in outlook and never was. Until now, though, it's been hard to pin down his final loyalties. Now, with the revelations made...
RIP Howard Zinn
2010-01-28 18:29:00 If you've never read A People's History of the United States, now would be an excellent time to do so. Radical, controversial genius Howard Zinn passed away yesterday at the age of 87. A lifelong activist and celebrated revisionist, he spoke openly for the rights of those suffering from injustice, and worked to shed light on subjects left long hidden in the dark.

Howard Zinn People's History special on the History Channel
2009-12-14 07:26:00 tweetmeme_url = 'http://www.nelsonguirado.com/i-ndex.php/reviews/2009/12/13/how-ard-zinn-special-on-pbs';tweetm-eme_service = 'bit.ly';I haven't seen the special on the History channel (because the man doesn't want Cuban people to know the Truth! [just kidding]), but I've read most of the book upon which it's based. Reading Howard Zinn is like listening to eulogy, in reverse. Imagine going to a funeral and hearing a somber gentleman recount the times the recently departed Mr. Jones looked down Mrs. Smith's blouse and took peanuts from the Ralphs display instead of how Mr. Jones' cared for his ill wife for forty years and donated million of dollars to cancer research. That's what Howard Zinn (Hitchens does this as well in God isn't Great) does in the People's History of the United States: He picks what he perceives as the worst parts of American history and shoehorns it into his Marxist boot to create a narrative that reads: America started off as an evil conspiracy amongs...

Howard Zinn on Anarchism
2008-05-19 17:18:00 Abridged from an interview with Ziga Vodovnik: Ziga Vodovnik: From the 1980s onwards we are witnessing the process of economic globalization getting stronger day after day. Many on the Left are now caught between a "dilemma" - either to work to reinforce the sovereignty of nation-states as a defensive barrier against the control of foreign and global capital; or to strive towards a non-national alternative to the present form of globalization and that is equally global. What's your opinion about this?Howard Zinn: I am an anarchist, and according to anarchist principles nation states become obstacles to a true humanistic globalization. In a certain sense the movement towards globalization where capitalists are trying to leap over nation state barriers, creates a kind of opportunity for movement to ignore national barriers, and to bring people together globally, across national lines in opposition to globalization of capital, to create globalization of people, opposed to traditional ...

Tomgram: Howard Zinn, The End of Empire?
2008-04-14 09:18:00 by Tom Engelhardt In Iraq, in Afghanistan, and at home, the position of the globe's "sole superpower" is visibly fraying. The country that was once proclaimed an "empire lite" has proven increasingly light-headed. The country once hailed as a power greater than that of imperial Rome or imperial Britain, a dominating force beyond anything ever seen on the planet, now can't seem to make a move in its own interest that isn't a disaster. The Iraq government's recent offensive in Basra is but the latest example with -- we can be sure -- more to come. In the meantime, the fate of that empire, lite or otherwise, is the subject of Howard Zinn today at Tomdispatch, and of a new addition to his famed People's History of the United States. The new book represents a surprise breakthrough into cartoon format. It's a rollicking graphic history, illustrated by cartoonist Mike Konopacki, that takes us from the Indian Wars to the Iraqi "frontier" (wi...
Howard Zinn on the American empire
2008-04-03 18:56:00 Empire or Humanity? What the classroom didn't teach me about the American empire By Howard Zinn With an occupying army waging war in Iraq and Afghanistan, with military bases and corporate bullying in every part of the world, there is hardly a question any more of the existence of an American Empire. Indeed, the once fervent denials have turned into a boastful, unashamed embrace of the

Howard Zinn is not a wise man-Put away flags for the fourth of July
2007-07-05 08:16:00 Howard Zinn is undoubtedly a smart guy, but would you want Howard Zinn leading your country? If he did, how long would your country last? Since no nation was born without taking land from somebody else, he'd probably be itching to give it away. The following article embodies the leftist attitude towards America. Far leftists like Zinn (not you, Mr. and Mrs. moderate Democrat) claim to love America only when they're attacking it like when they say "this isn't what America is supposed to be about; America is greater than that; we shouldn't stoop to their level (suggesting America is better in some way, no?)" whenever they discuss the Guantanamo-interrogation controversy. Let's look at this essay he wrote. Published on Monday, July 3, 2006 by the Progressive Put Away the Flags by Howard Zinn On this July 4, we would do well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America ...

HOWARD ZINN SPEAKS TO AMERICANS ON JULY 4
2007-07-04 10:46:00 by Sudhan@10:45 CET __________________________ Howard Zinn: Put Away the Flags On this July 4, we would do well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America to be blessed. Is not nationalism — that devotion to a flag, an anthem, a boundary ...

Howard Zinn on Democracy Now!
2006-12-19 01:17:01 ?Why, of course, the people don?t want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war? But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy. The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. All you have to do [...]

Howard Zinn: The Myth of American Exceptionalism
2006-09-12 09:12:01 "Today, says Zinn, we have a president, who more than any before him, claims a special relationship with God. Zinn worries about an administration that deploys Christian zealotry to justify a war against terrorism, a war that in reality seems more about establishing a new beachhead in the oil-rich Middle East. He also sees great danger in Bush?s doctrines of unilateralism and pre-emptive war, which mark a great leap away from international standards of morality."Watch: Howard Zinn: The Myth of American Exceptionalism Lecture and Questions and Answer session.
