Howie Kendrick back in the lineup
2008-04-13 00:02:00 Howie Kendrick started at second base tonight for the Angels after being out the last three games with a thumb contusion. He is 3 for 3 already tonight and was leading the AL in hits before his little hiatus. I personally love this guy, but who wouldn't love a guy that hit .359 in just over 1500 AB in the minors? He has also posted a .311 AVG in 633 AB with the big club. If some of his doubles (24) that he hit last year turn into home runs (2007=5) this year, Howie could be quite a force for your squads middle infield. There has also been promises of more SB to come this year. Find a way to get him if you can; once his health issues dissipate we will be looking at a top 10 2b for years to come, if not top 5.

Sleeper Showdown: Aaron Hill vs. Howie Kendrick
2008-03-01 04:39:00 Few middle infield prospects have been as hyped as Howie Kendrick over the decade. I’m as guilty as most fantasy analysts. As anyone who has read my past work at Fanball knows when I discuss Kendrick, I like to cite the work done at Baseball Prospectus regarding a stat they call translated batting average ...

Odds and Ends: Santana, Cabrera, Kapler
2007-12-20 22:10:00 A few good reads that I didn't know how to fit elsewhere. LENIII does a Johan Q&A. I can't say much has changed but he does dissect the situation well. Mike DiGiovanna also does a mailbag, with tidbits about Howie Kendrick, Miguel Cabrera, Paul Konerko, and many others. I know I said I like to skip minor signings, but it's interesting to see Gabe Kapler out of retirement, signing with the Brewers. showad();

Marlins Toy With Angels, Dodgers
2007-11-29 02:23:00 Angels owner Arte Moreno isn't happy with the way the Marlins dealt with his club on the Miguel Cabrera negotiations. Twice already the Angels thought they had deals only to have the Marlins come back at the last minute asking for more. Moreno also believed this happened to the Dodgers and the Fish are playing the two teams off each other. None of this seems outside the realm of negotiation; it's just curious that Moreno went public with it. Perhaps that's strategy, his way of telling the Marlins he won't take any more BS. Moreno said the Marlins' demand is four players. Three of them must be Major Leaguers and two pitchers. If the Angels are to give up two good young pitchers, they won't also include both Howie Kendrick and Jeff Mathis. It hasn't really been said but it seems like the Cabrera negotiations may stall now unless the Marlins come down a bit. Or maybe some other dominoes will fall at the Winter Meetings and a team will g...

Angels and Dodgers Battling For Miguel Cabrera
2007-11-14 05:02:00 Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post says the Dodgers and Angels are leading the pack in the Miguel Cabrera derby. Four other clubs are said to be in the mix. The Marlins will continue to field offers and hope to trade Cabrera at the Winter Meetings in a few weeks. Both the Dodgers and Angels are also in the mix for Alex Rodriguez. Scott Boras must love Cabrera messing up his market. A friend of Tommy Lasorda's told me today that Lasorda puts the Dodgers' chances of signing A-Rod around 25%. From the Angels, the Marlins want Howie Kendrick, Nick Adenhart, another pitcher, and an outfielder. Now that's a tall order! Ervin Santana or Joe Saunders could be in the mix. Maybe the Marlins like Terry Evans, Nathan Haynes, or Reggie Willits as well. The Dodgers are being asked to pony up four of Chad Billingsley, Clayton Kershaw, Andy LaRoche, James Loney, and Matt Kemp. Capozzi suggests the Dodgers would probably only include one of the pitchers.&...

Contract Window For Miguel Cabrera?
2007-11-09 21:05:00 MLB.com's Joe Frisaro says the Miguel Cabrera trade talks are heating up. As you know, Cabrera is under team control for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He might become more enticing if the acquiring team can talk to his agent prior to completion of a trade, with a long-term contract in mind. As far as I can tell Cabrera is represented by Arn Tellem and Fernando Cuza currently. Frisaro says the Angels and Dodgers are in the lead for Cabrera. The Yankees, White Sox, Indians, and Tigers are also in the mix. However this Paul Hoynes article seems to indicate the Indians are fading on Cabrera. And I think it's questionable whether the White Sox have the goods. Frisaro doesn't include the Red Sox, which jives with Michael Silverman's info today. Peter Gammons says the Red Sox could get Hank Blalock in a Coco Crisp deal but aren't ready to do that right now. It's known that the Marlins want Howie Kendrick from the Angels; Ken Rosenthal firs...

Miguel Cabrera Trade Rumors
2007-11-08 20:36:00 For up for auction: two years of Miguel Cabrera. Who's going to place a bid? The latest buzz from Joe Capozzi is that the Dodgers, Angels, Giants, Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox are all after him. A deal could happen at the Winter Meetings from December 3-6. The needs for the Marlins are starting pitching, third base, catcher, and center field. They want three players. Dodgers: Capozzi's source says they're "making a big push" for Cabrera, after calling about him last summer. This could even involve a package deal with Dontrelle Willis. The names being thrown around: Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Andy LaRoche, Chad Billingsley, Clayton Kershaw, Scott Elbert, and Jonathan Meloan. I can't see the Dodgers trading Billingsley; he's integral to the 2008 team. Dodgers side note: Bill Shaikin names Kosuke Fukudome as someone the Dodgers are monitoring. Angels: Capozzi says Cabrera could be the Angels' alternative if they fai...
