Light Reading: Lefty Anger, Huff and Puff in the Case of the Overinflated S
2008-05-07 21:04:00
Michelle Malkin takes on Michelle Obama?s endless flow of whining and bile. It?s not surprising. As I pointed out in my Anger on the Left post, Leftism once seemed logically congruent with anger because Leftism was the politics of the underclass. In recent years, though, Leftism has shifted to become the politics of ...

Aubrey Huff: Being Told What To Do Versus What Not To Do...
2008-04-10 18:53:00
Aubrey Huff. His name either brings scorn or praise; however, for the first two weeks, it's been a lot of the former. In this week's edition of Press Box, Amber Theoharis thinks we should forgive Mr. Huff for his statments in general on the "Bubba The Love Sponge Show" and his other displays of silly behavior before his infamous statements and thereafter.Of course, this is not withstanding that the fellow has been nothing short of a jackass before he got to Baltimore, blowing off fans asking for autographs after games and at spring training. If this were only a only time thing, I'd let bygones be bygones; however, he's not endeared himself to the community or fans in general. The Orioles are winning. It has been a long time since anybody wrote that line in this town. It feels good -- so why are some fans still holding a grudge? You know who you are -- the fans who booed Aubrey Huff this past week despite the Orioles? 5-1 record through the first six games and some of the best team ...

The periennally slow-starting Huff has reversed his normal early season performance. Through seven games, he is hitting .333 with two home runs and 11 RBI. By contrast last April Huff hit .262 with three home runs and 13 RBI. If Huff continues his strong start, he could be in line for a big year.

Aubrey Huff and Opening Day
2008-04-01 16:45:00
Morning everyone, I am going to have a writeup/rundown later today; however, since I missed work yesterday afternoon, I am trying to get caught up again with society. Add to that I had a weekend full of baseball, both for pleasure and work -- I'm trying to readjust.Anyhow, there's a lot to talk about, but if you were not at the Yard yesterday, things really have changed from past Opening Day events. The crowd was lively, but the crowd on Monday didn't have the feel of year's past, and it was almost like we as fans have been resigned to failure. If you get a chance, read Dick Heller's column in the Washington Times today. Yes, I try to be a positive as I can, and still love the Orioles; however, there's no doubt what the author is saying is the absolute truth -- things are not the same anymore, and the Baltimore Orioles need to win and also reach out to their fans if they have any hope of reliving the glory days of 90's at the Yard.Aubrey Huff: I'd really like to feel sorry for...
Scottish Politicians Huff and Puff Patriotically
2008-03-31 23:53:00
Scottish politicians in Scotland have forced an enormous back down by their Scottish colleagues in Westminster.Public buildings in Scotland will be allowed to fly the Saltire year-round following a government climbdown in response to pressure from nationalists.UK ministers will this week announce the lifting of restrictions on flag flying that have been in force since 1924. The rules stipulate that the Union Jack must must take precedence over all national flags on 18 days each year.Scottish government buildings with only one flagpole must take down the Saltire and replace it with the Union Jack on specified national days including the Queen's birthday, Remembrance Day and Commonwealth Day. The decision to give the Saltire equal status has been welcomed by the Scottish National party. ?It's a recognition that we are in charge of our flag flying arrangements,? said a senior Scottish government source.Wow! Important stuff. The Scots are now in charge of flag flying. Now that they ha...

Aubrey Huff Remembers A Lost Friend...
2008-02-16 04:04:00
Aubrey Huff honestly had a perilous 2007, as he had his worst year career wise and as well caused a ruckus amongst Oriole fans and threw mud on the organization by his stuny of the "Bubba The Love Sponge Show in the off-season.However, this year he's looking to not only improve, but also honor the memory of a lost friend, Joe Kennedy, who played for the Oakland Athletics and passed away due to a heart condition. From the Baltimore Sun: Huff is grieving the loss of his close friend, 28-year-old pitcher Joe Kennedy, who collapsed and died in the early morning of Nov. 23 at his in-laws' home in Tampa. The cause of death was listed as hypertensive heart disease that went undetected in his yearly physicals."If you have it, I guess you don't really know," said Huff, who had dinner with his former Tampa Bay teammate two nights before the pitcher's death. "I don't know how that works, but apparently, we're just so unprotected. We have no idea, even with all the EKGs we take."It's a to...

Quick Hits: Spring Training Home & Huff
2008-01-12 01:59:00
Evening everyone, I've had a busy day and still do not feel quite 100%, so I decided to just lay in bed in a for a few.Well, there have been talks of the Baltimore Orioles moving their Spring Training home from their current location in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. to Vero Beach's Dodgertown. According the Orioles Hangout website, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that the Orioles have signed an agreement with Indian River County to replace the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida. The Baltimore Sun's Roch Kubatko in his blog mentions this, but there has not been a comment forth-coming from the team on that front. We shall see what happens.***Other news in Oriole-land is that Aubrey Huff had sports hernia surgery today, a condition that was found whilst doing some workouts. He should be back in time for spring training, and the team will desperately need in him '08, as they need him to return to his Tampa Bay form as Miguel Tejada is gone.We can only ...

Clinton Lies About Obama Abortion Record - Huff Post

Wow. This is a sure sign of desparation on the part of the Hillary Clinton campaign. To attempt to mislead voters in this way, or any way, is totally wrong and dangerous to boot. Gamble & Huff Comment on Rock Hall
2007-12-18 00:43:00
Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff were elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last week and will be the first inducted under the new Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performing artists.Gamble and Huff created what was known as The Sound of Philadelphia in the 1970's, but they actually started working together in the late-50's as part of the group the Romeos, which also included future producer Thom Bell.In 1964, the duo produced their first hit, the Soul Survivor's Expressway to Your Heart and followed with a series of smashes such as I Can't Stop Dancin' for Archie Bell and the Drells and Only the Strong Survive by Jerry Butler.Columbia records took a chance on Gamble and Huff in 1970, signing them and their label Philadelphia International as an affiliate. They sold ten million records in six months right out of the box with artists like the O'Jays, Billy Paul and Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. They have also written hundreds of songs, many of which became hits for artists on the ...

There's not much going on in Oriole land, and it looks like the Huff episode has died off in the eyes of the media; however, keep in mind, this whole thing could not have happened 20 years ago.Yes, I and millions of others kept this whole thing alive. Well, thanks to the Internet (or as George Bush says 'internets' and Al Gore 'invented it'), Aubrey Huff will now live in infamy at least amongst us hardcore Oriole fans.Childs Walker in the Sun a few days ago took a look at Huff's words and actions thanks to WNST & the work of the popular Deadspin.Basically, because of the internet , its influence and the groundswell of people who scour it daily, the story blew up and basically mad him public enemy number one.Instead of just appearing on his buddy's talk show and trying to forget about it, Huff has now had to issue apologies and mea culpas to the fans base via the Baltimore Sun and sports talk radio. In the end, Huff will hear it from fans once baseball begins in 2008, and...
A Female's View on Huff
2007-11-15 17:10:00
I was just talking to Maryland Orioles Fan - he shot me a quick email from the west coast, and asked how I felt about the entire Aubrey Huff situation, from a female's perspective.I originally said I needed to wrap my mind around it, but that's not completely true. I needed to figure out how to say what's going on in my mind, and turn it into a coherent post.As a female, baseball fan aside, I'm disgusted. Utterly disgusted. His remarks and actions were completely inappropriate and he really should have used some ounce of common sense. I don't care that he's a ball player and not a politician - any public figure in a large or small market should know that their remarks will get back to the city they represent. There is no excuse for what he said or did - drunk or with friends or a joke or whatever his next excuse is. When there are cameras around, sooner or later, the incriminating evidence will be leaked. And what about his wife? Did Aubrey not get married during the 20...

More Huff on a Early Morning...
2007-11-15 16:38:00
I'm still here on the left coast, and have been working my arse off for the past few days. I was reading Roch's blog before my conference call, and today's is a must read.Aubrey doesn't get it, and trust me, the people who are loyal enough to see the Orioles next year will rain down on him bad. Right now, Millar and Gibbons should be happy they are not in the news, but there's a news flash for both men; people in the region have a long memory. His performance may have been cool to some; however, almost a week later, people are still furious with him and the team is certainly not happy."I just think it was tasteless and offensive, and you can count me among those offended," said Andy MacPhail, Orioles president of baseball operations. The Orioles have expressed their feelings to Huff. This could be a delicate issue because, though the Orioles don't want to give the appearance they're abandoning one of their players, they also likely don't want to seem to condone his behavior.Or...
Aubrey Huff Continued...
2007-11-12 15:38:00
I'm a grown man, and I don't care what Huff does in his free time; however, there are still kids, parents and fans who look up to these guys and someone like him really needs to use better judgment when he interacts with the media or goes on talk shows. In the end, he does not come off as looking like a decent professional athlete, but a guy who has way too much time & money on his hands.Obviously, his post game activities look like they affected his performance on the field. If you want to read some of what he said on the show, check out the WNST website - they have plenty to say. I agree with the sentiments of Drew Forrester of WNST, and they are just ripping apart the guy on their website, but in this case, Huff deserves it.Roch Kubatko has more on this little scandal that is going on right now with this team ans yet another one of their athletes, and it's needless to say, I don't think the Orioles are impressed with Huff. The Orioles seem to be a lot more enticing now than...
Aubrey Huff and His Comments on Baltimore...
2007-11-11 17:00:00
Take a read at Roch Kubatko's article in the Sun today about Aubrey Huff and his comments Friday on Baltimore and it's nightlife.Huff's appraisal came after the discussion turned to nightlife in the Tampa, Fla., area, and how much Huff indulged in it while he was single and playing for the Devil Rays.(Read My Previous Post on this: The Huff Speaketh...)"If anybody's heard their show, or Howard Stern's show, it's a shock jock show, so everything's flying," Huff said yesterday. "You've got four guys in there, including me, and we're talking about all sorts of stuff, including bars and restaurants, and how the two cities are different. I said Baltimore was horses - - for that. After games, places are closed down. There's no place to go."While Huff tries to explain his comments and rationale, he comes off as a tad immature and has a frat boy mentality. It may be all right to be that way amongst your buddies, it's not smart when you represent a professional sports franchise.Ev...

Well, it looks like another Oriole might have pissed off the fanbase in town. Yesterday, Aubrey Huff was on the "Bubba, the Love Sponge" show or Sirius radio and had the first baseman as a guest on his show.He and Bubba talked about various topics, and when the topic came to Baltimore and and perhaps it's nightlife, he said when asked about it:"Haha, no, Baltimore is a horsesh*t town."I heard some of this on the Anita Marks show and the Orioles Hangout has more on the appearance by Huff, and it made it seem like he was insulting the city. Now, I don't know whether he was talking about the city in general or the after hours life; alas, he might have caused a tiny uproar.I have no idea what he said, and if anyone knows verbatim, let me know.If he was talking about the nightlife; it's water under the bridge, but he was slamming the city not withstanding the amount of money he is being paid, he should be booed anytime he comes to the plate at home in 2008.***Andy MacPhail came out the...

Now we're trapped in the shadow of the White House's unprecedented strength, and there doesn't appear to be any conceivable way to stop these people. by William Bowles The military option is not the worst option The worst option is a nuclear Iran. Danny Yatom, former Mossad boss Laffaire Iran in its latest incarnation has been going on now for over two years with all kinds of dire threats emanating from the Beltway (and elsewhere eg, Sarkozys recent remark about taking out Iran). The latest leak from the imperium is the Newsweek story The Whispers of War (Sunday, 23 September 2007) in which it is alleged that earlier this year vice-prez Cheney had suggested that Israel launch a pre-emptive strike against Irans nuclear facilities at Natanz. Apparently it was the Zionist David Wurmser, former Middle East adviser to Cheney who told a group of unidentified individuals that Cheney had suggested this to Israel. Wurmser told a small group of people that Cheney had been mulling the idea of pushing for limited Israeli missile strikes against the Iranian nuclear site at Natanzand perhaps other sitesin o...
