TomKat?s Humble Home Now Built
2008-06-02 05:40:00 Well Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have completed construction on their new home in Beverly Hills and let me tell you, it’s a far cry from what we saw on Oprah when she and Tom were huddled in a cozy cabin in Teluride, Colorado. The estate, which is worth a whopping 35 million dollars, was ...

Brad & Angie?s Humble Abode.

Knight Riders humble Bangalore by 140 runs
2008-04-18 20:09:00 With the help of Brendon McCullum's 158* and some excellent bowling, Kolkata Knight Riders beat Bangalore Royal Challengers by 140 runs in the inaugural Indian Premier League match. Rahul Dravid's decision to bowl first backfired as Bangalore Royal Challengers lost wickets at regular interval against Kolkata Knight Riders. Earlier, Brendon McCullum hit a blazing 73-ball unbeaten knock of 158 to guide Kolkata Knight Riders to a massive 222 against Bangalore Royal Challengers in the lung opener of the Indian Premier League. McCullum went berserk right from the word go as he hit Zaheer Khan for 18 runs in the second over of the innings after being put in to bat by hosts skipper Rahul Dravid at Chinnaswamy stadium. The Kiwi player then hit a towering long-off six off Ashley Noffke to bring up the 50 for Knight Riders in just four overs. The wicket-keeper batsman was difficult to contain as he showed no mercy and hit all the bowlers all around the park. McCullum's scintillating inning...
A Humble Request
2008-04-15 18:28:00 To add some validity to this post (where I promise not to go off the deep end), here's some mass media opinions of last night's game and the series so far: Pop Culture Reference in Title That Won't Be Relevant in 5 Years Courtesy of Kiszla Obvious Sports Cliche For Jibbles' Collection Now that we've got that out of the way, let's talk about the power play. It sucks. OK, got that out of my system. Jibbles committed a sin of sins yesterday with this post, suggesting that the PP may not be that bad. Jinx? I don't think so. Weapons-grade hallucinogens? More likely. I work with numbers on a daily basis. Numbers lie. It's in their nature. This just proves it. You know who else lies? 'Coach' Quenneville. Somewhere on his resume it has to mention the ability to coach hockey. That is a lie. Anybody with a functioning mammalian brain knows that you don't beat the #4 PK by cycling the puck endlessly i...

A Really Humble Man
2008-04-10 17:22:00 Do not imagine that if you meet a really humble man he will be what most people call “humble” nowadays: he will not be a sort of greasy, smarmy person, who is always telling you that, of course, he is nobody. 2008-03-07 14:15:00 Humility is not something that comes naturally to most, especially in today’s busy competitive society. How to plan humble user-centric web application?
2008-02-27 05:34:00 I have recently started building some ajaxy interfaces for one /two hobby projects. Now there is a difference in hobby project and live application which would be used by may be thousands of users online. Application more or less remains same but suddenly there is a shift in the goal. You are building it for people and they are going to assess it and will either admire it or just give pass over it. There are so many things to make real world good web application. I guess you need to start with the goal of your application. Thats the starting point. Some good vision statement for your application. Lets say wufoo. It says "Free HTML form builder". My another favorite application "weebly" says Create your website "Fast,Free,Easy,Now".- They have vision and hence the road map to follow and keep on revising the vision statement if needed as it is obvious; farther you go you know something more and that adds value to you. I love User Interface and things aro...

A humble suggestion and a massage for the ego
2008-02-15 19:18:00 Months ago, I wrote a post critical of Ron Paul for being so blind to the realities of British politics that he assumed Tony Blair to be a raving, freedom-hating socialism. I argued that such a man would be unsuited to leading the US if he had so little idea of the realities of foreign politics. I also questioned his 'libertarian' credentials and argued he was just an extremist Republican rather than a radical. Now that voting is under way to decide on the Republican nomination, it appears Ron Paul's campaign was just a small number of people shouting very loud. Currently, overall results indicate he has picked up just 16 delegates to McCain's 830 and Huckabee's 217. Of the remaining candidates, he is last. America has the good sense not to elect an extremist to the White House and the Internet is not the be all and end all of political campaigning in 2008.On the Democratic side, things remain tight between Clinton and Obama. I would prefer to see Obama in the White House, and f...

Humble Orthodoxy Hitting The Mark
2008-02-07 23:32:00 "Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves."- Matthew 10:16If there were ever a time when this admonition needed heeding, that time is now. In way too many cases prideful posturing and bickering has distracted from the reasoned dialogue that is desperately needed among the growing number of younger, Reformed, evangelicals. At the center of this move toward reasoned dialogue is a group that call themselves New Attitude. Their motto is the phrase, "Humble Orthodoxy", and they are hitting right on the mark.I grew up as a Bible-believing, king-james only, dispensational, premillenial, fundamentalist, seperated, baptist. I was a pharisee in training. I had a chip on my shoulder as big as Gibraltar and it has taken many years for me to see at an older age what the Lord has shown these young men who are several years my junior. I support what they are doing and it is my hope that instead of my young seminarian freinds looking...

A Few Humble Suggestions to Get Out of this Recession
2008-01-25 00:00:00 A Few Humble Suggestions to Get Out of this Recession
Be it ever so humble...
2008-01-23 01:05:00 ...there's no place like home.I'm now a home-owner. Well...to be accurate, the bank owns most of my home; I think I own the powder room, spare bedroom, and linen closet.Michael and I began to talk about living together, probably selling his condo and buying a bigger place for the two of us (and his 2000 dvds, my 2000 books, his TV temple, my piano...). So I suppose I was already in the mindset...after many ponderings on my own, with friends and with my parents, I took the plunge and purchased his condo.I know some of you wonder if this is wise or not, but he made it a place of peace and comfort for me--a place to escape from daily stresses and turmoils. And throughout everything, his home kept those qualities. Yes, at times it is difficult being here, but it really is the best thing for me.Well...apart from the kitchen.Meet Beelzebub:(the stove, not the pot)Yes. I now live with Beelzebub. Oh sure he looks all sweet and innocent, promising to come up to temp or even just turn on, ...
Humble Beads
2008-01-20 19:35:00 This post began with researching art beads, but then I found Humble Beads by Heather Powers. And I fell in love with this lady's beads. I know there are lots of beads out there in the marketplace, but I think these beads are exceptional. The Colors The interplay of colors speaks to my artsy side. And why wouldn't they? Many of them are inspired by impressionist paintings. The colors of the beads coordinate and complement each other beautifully. Art Inspired Beads Beads that take their inspiration from Heather's favorite painters and designers. All beads are handcrafted from polymer clay and buffed to a matte finish. Monet's Garden Bead Inspired by watery hues and brush strokes of Monet's water lily paintings. This bead can be made into a cuff bracelet or a pendant. Each one is a unique mini-masterpiece. Cuff Beads There are six horizontal holes the size of a standard head-pin in the bead pictured above. So you can string a strand of beads or whatever through ...

Humble Pie - Smokin? [1972]
2008-01-12 19:10:00 After a couple of years of relentless touring, Humble Pie capitalized on their loyal U.S. following to capture the market with this, their third album. Although lead guitarist Peter Frampton was replaced by Clem Clemson ? an excellent player ? the band remained essentially the same. Led by singer/guitarist Steve Marriot's soulful wail, the group enjoyed a huge hit from this record, "30 Days in the Hole" ? the track which defined the Pie's not-so-subtle appeal. The rest of the record is equally funky and intriguing. Stephen Stills guests on "Road Runner 'G' Jam," playing some nasty Hammond organ fills. In the end though, the group defined themselves as the undisputed leaders of the boogie movement in the early 1970s, as a band. Humble Housing Predictions for the Near Term Future
2007-12-13 05:39:00 This year has given us all quite the challenge of keeping up with the roller coaster that is real estate. It’s definitely been a challenging year in the world of real estate to say the least! Naturally, things will always continue to change and with that, here are my own humble predictions for what we’ll be seeing a lot more of when it comes to housing – feel free to make whatever you will from them… Downsizing Goes Big Time Plenty of new construction will continue to take place and people will always be building new homes. But I think the day of the McMansion might be coming to a halt. People just want a simpler, more practical lifestyle. For background, consider that housing goes in cycles and history tends to repeat itself. We’ve downsized before – just look at the tiny ranch homes of the 1940’s and 50’s. I don’t think we’ll go quite that far this time though! (...)
Japan’s Bloggers: Humble Giants of the Web
2007-12-07 13:28:00 from Smart Mobs by Emily TurretiniCompared to the English-speaking world, the Japanese have gone blog wild. They write Web logs at per capita rates that are off the global charts. The Washington Post reports. Although English speakers outnumber Japanese speakers by more than 5-1, slightly more blog postings are written in Japanese than in English, according to Technorati, the Internet search engine that monitors the blogosphere. By some estimates, as much as 40 percent of Japanese blogging is done on mobile phones, often by commuters staring cross-eyed at tiny screens for hours as they ride the world’s most extensive network of subways and commuter trains. Blogging in Japan, though, is a far tamer beast than in the United States and the rest of the English-speaking world. Japan’s conformist culture has embraced a technology that Americans often use for abrasive self-promotion and refashioned it as a soothingly nonconfrontational medium for getting along. loggers here shy away f...

The Wide World of the Humble Peanut
2007-11-01 16:46:00 The United States harvests billions of pounds [more than a billion kilograms] of peanuts annually, producing almost 10 percent of the world total. Argentina, Brazil, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, and Sudan are also major peanut-growing countries. How did the peanut become so popular? Is it ever wise to avoid eating peanuts?A Long HistoryThe peanut is thought to have originated in South America. One of the earliest known artifacts showing man's appreciation of peanuts is a pre-Columbian vase discovered in Peru. The vase is shaped like a peanut and is also decorated with peanut-shaped designs. Spanish explorers, who first encountered peanuts in South America, found them to be an excellent source of nutrition for their voyages. They then brought some back to Europe. The Europeans put the peanut to additional uses, even as a substitute for coffee beans.Later the Portuguese introduced peanuts to Africa. There peanuts were quickly recognized as a valuable food source that would...
It's Hard To Be Humble
2007-10-30 06:34:00 I just ran across this hilarious take on an unnamed Canadian sheeple (or would the singular be sheeperson?) and their bumper stickers. The full post is here. R-rated excerpt below.I'm in my car, sitting in traffic, and I notice the rig in front of me was covered in bumper stickers. Strange, strange bumper stickers....The final one was my favorite. It's off the crazy scale. It reads as such:What? Border collies? You fucking idiot. It doesn't even make sense. Any fucking shmuck on Earf can buy a fucking border collie. You might as well make the bumper sticker say, "It's hard to be humble when you own toothpaste." Makes as much sense. Now if it said, "It's hard to be humble when you own the greatest tits on the planet," well, yeah, I would imagine it would be hard to be humble in that spot. Otherwise it's weird."Hey, I saw you talking to that girl with the great tits. How did it go?""Awesome! She blew me in the bathroom. It was like she had no self-worth at all!""Hey, I saw you t...
