2008-05-07 21:21:00 Oy! Busy, busy, busy, busy. I practically have a second job with all of this apartment hunting crap. ANYway...it's been a gorgeous week in NYC so far. It's nice to be able to open the windows again. None of that stale winter air.Aside from apartment hunting last weekend, I don't have much to say. My friend from Boston, who was supposed to come down and visit this weekend, had to cancel due to her brother's birthday party..so I imagine I'll spend my time in Brooklyn looking at places.Next weekend I'm going for a 4 day weekend to Chicago to see my old Earlham friends. I'm uber excited about that. I haven't seen them since visiting Earlham for last year's graduation. 2008-04-23 19:21:00 Well another glorious Hump Day is upon us. As you well know, I spent my weekend in Pittsburgh, and as you can tell from the pictures, I did absolutely nothing. It was fantastic. So unfortunately for you I don't really have much to dirt to dish. I will say this, however, I flew in to JFK and I will never be making that mistake again. It's in the middle of no where and it takes forever to get back to Astoria. I didn't have much of an option though seeing as how the only flights in to LaGuardia were too early in the morning or too late at night.Work is kind of winding down on the stress level, but hopefully something interesting will pick back up soon. Nothing planned this weekend, so far. I believe I have some tattoo touch ups, but that's about it. This week's treat is John Strand. It was a crappy day (weather wise) and I had been pulling late nights at work all week...so what I wanted to do, was just go home, put on the tube, have some drinks, and relax. And that's what I did. It was beautiful.Saturday I got up and went into Soho and did some shopping. I blew most of my birthday cash on clothes...so I'm a little bit closer to being ready for summer. Saturday night I went to The Musical Box and B-Side in alphabet city with some co-workers. Things are going well. Busy with work as usual, but it's a good busy. My birthday is this Friday, but I actually hate my birthday...so I believe I will be trying to avoid doing anything special on it. My friends Bicardi and Daniels may be coming over...but that's about it.I rushed out during lunch yesterday up to the Best Buy just about Houston on Broadway and bought Sweeney Todd, so that's also what I did last night. Hump Day Hmm - WTF at Tsongas Arena!
2008-03-11 23:29:00 Adam's cub scout pack arranged a trip to see a Lowell Devils (minor league team of the NJ Devils) hockey game at Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts. It was a fantastic event including a tour of the ambulance used by the hockey players, pizza in our own club room, front row seats in the end zone, a chance for one of the scouts to ride the Zamboni (more on another post), and a free skate on the ice after the game. The atmosphere was festive, everyone was in a great mood, and the Devils won in a shoot-off. I forgot to bring my camera, but the iPhone was a worthy substitute, and you can see the entire set of pictures here.There was one incident that marred the event. All through the game, there were promotional giveaways, a Jeep and tons of shirts for the crowd. A recent study by United College Marketing Services has shown that student credit lines have increased to over $6,000. Credit card usage has tripled since 2001 amongst teenagers as well. Since eighteen year-olds in many countries and most U.S. states are eligible for a card without parental consent or employment, the likelihood of increased balances, unwise use of credit and damaged credit scores increases. Hump Day Hmm - Assertiveness and Gender
2008-02-27 04:52:00 As a follow-up to Julie Pippert's post on Is there gender bias on the playground and political field alike?, here is my take on assertiveness and gender. Since I don't follow the political arena as closely as I should, I'll limit my observations to what I'm supposedly an expert on, my children. Having both a boy and a girl allows us to see differences in assertiveness in action, as well as just about every other area. As all parents, we try not to raise them differently but their natural gender tendencies always show through. Let's just say that when Dova plays with Adam's cars, it's to pretend that families are taking a vacation. And when Adam plays with Dova's doll house, it's to line up the dolls and shoot them down with rubber bands. I hate to make generalizations about gender, as you really need to look at each child individually. But no matter how hard we try to ignore it, there are definite differences in our kids and darn it, they often fall into the temperamen...

2008-02-20 20:47:00 Well another Hump Day is upon. Kind of sad it's no longer tied in with Lost or Gossip Girl. Sigh. Though I guess I'm kind of over those shows for the time being.This weekend, I've got more tattoo work going on, so Friday night I'm going to stay in and behave myself so I'm not a hot mess for the appointment on Saturday afternoon. Saturday night..hopefully I wont be too sore and I can escape the apartment. Though to be honest I'm kind of over the scene right now and would probably have more fun staying in.Next weekend (the first of March) is the 1st Annual Queensies Awards Ceremony and my roommate Steve and I already ordered the awards.
