Photo Hunters - Bad Hair
2008-06-07 01:17:00 My hair is always flying in the slightest breeze, as shown on the swing here. Adam always wakes up with the worst bed head and he refuses to brush it. I have better things to do in the morning than to chase him around with a brush. He got the best of both Doug's and my hair, slightly curly and extra thick. This should more aptly be named "bad corn in the hair" from when Dova was a toddler. Here's Dova on an extremely windy day on Cape Cod. If you noticed that Doug doesn't appear with bad hair, it is because his hair is always perfect. 2008-05-31 03:13:00 I rarely take pictures of myself and the kids always seem to photograph me in my underwear, so those get deleted right away (since I'm in my underwear right now, I'm beginning to think this is my fault and not theirs). So for these self pictures, I enlisted my kids as hand models. After all, they came from my self and are genetically half of my self. Adam's hands are enormous for a seven-year-old and some of his fingernails are bigger than mine. 2008-05-22 02:11:00 Here is Dova's collection of Barbie and mini-princess shoes (notice Cinderella's clear glass slippers in the middle, as well as her brown peasant shoes on the right). How do we manage to keep all these tiny shoes? Well, in a hermetically sealed bag of course. This mom cannot stand to lose things, so Dova is only allowed one pair to play with at a time. And miraculously, the missing white shoe on the right doesn't really bother me. And I'm not even taking Paxil. The missing black Barble shoe on the left however... I wasn't there when Dova tore open her Barbie gift that arrived by mail. Both she and Adam claim that it only came with one black shoe. I was pressed for time for photo hunters this week, because I was away for a business trip and had no previous candy shots (photographing candy obviously adds inches to the waist). I got home last night with yet another cold (we call it the Toronto bug) but luckily my new lens also arrived. I emptied the candy jar onto the counter this morning, put on my new lens and voila! 2008-05-10 02:24:00 At the end of a rainy day on Sunday, the sun came out just in time for the golden hour. I tried my hand at panning to capture motion shots, as Adam has no trouble being in motion. This photo was taken with my old kit lens with shutter priority at: Exposure 1/60, Aperture f/14, Focal Length 45 mm, ISO Speed 400. Just ordered a new IS lens, so we'll see if I can improve on this.So Dova doesn't feel left out, here she is enjoying a much slower ride on her bicycle. And here is a video with the both of them. 2008-04-26 01:39:00 I seem to have a penchant for photographing signs, so I had lots to choose from this week. I took this picture of this "Bad Dog!" sign along the Cliff Walk in Newport Rhode, Island this month. Now, what I can't figure out is if the bad dog is inside the fence and will rip you to shreds if you get past the barbed wire. Or if the dogs you are walking are bad if they get too close to the fence. Or if you are a bad dog for thinking about trespassing. We often call our kids "bad kitties" when they misbehave so maybe that's what they meant. And they made about 20 of these signs to put around this fence. Bad Dog!This tsunami sign was in Dana Point, California. Thankfully, my hotel was right next to this sign so my company put me up safely. In the back row are her six Princess Babies: Tinkerbell, Ariel, Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Snow White and Cinderella. This was before Disney cast out Tinkerbell as a princess as she is only a fairy. You must be either born royalty or marry into it, although Mulan is neither (but she is Chinese, woot!). Since Dova didn't have Jasmine and didn't like any of the full size Jasmine dolls, she picked out the seven Disney Princess figurine set with Jasmine, Ariel, Belle, Aurora, Snow White, Cinderella and Mulan. This was also before Pocohantas was added. And poor Giselle from Enchanted was not added because she was portrayed by a real actress who needs real royalties. Bounty Hunters need more training

In Washington state, a bill has been passed where more training is necessary for the very dangerous job of being a bounty hunter. But the problem is that many of the agents simply lack training. Right now, recovery agents can get a license after four hours of training. The new law would require a minimum of 32 hours. Agents would also have to report directly to the Department of Licensing every time they enter a home by force. Washington state Bail Bonds manager Thomas Dixon supports the new law, saying he’s seen agents in the past disregard the rules to look for defendants. Thomas Dixon says more training, which includes civil and criminal law review, custody and transportation issues, firearm training, and exercising real-life scenarios, is needed. A lot of preparation went into it before the welding could actually take place. Stretcher bars were placed on the rail to give it tension at the join and special sand from Germany was used to make the mould were the join was to be made. The sand has a very high silica content and is only found in Germany.A contraption not unlike a cauldron, with a hole in the bottom, was placed above the mould. Then the magic happened, several things were poured into the cauldron type thing and a catalyst 'called the Bomb' was added and a chemical reaction took place.The molten metal then poured out of the cauldron into the mould and fused the two pieces of rail together with a very strong weld.
