Hayes, Dolson Help Huskies Tame The Bulls 77-62
2012-01-28 23:26:00
The patented knockout run never came for the UConn Huskies women's basketball team on the run. The South Florida Bulls weren't going away. So something had to give. That something turned out to be the play of senior Tiffany Hayes. After scoring a career-high 35 points her last time out, Hayes was doing her best to outscore the Bulls in the second half. She ended up scoring 22 of her 33 points in the second half to help the Huskies beat the Bulls 77-62 in front of 13,627 at the XL Center in Hartford, CT on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the No. 3 Huskies improve to 19-2 (8-1 Big East). The Bulls fall to 12-10 (4-4). Hayes, who played all but one minute in the game, also added 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Stefanie Dolson had a great down in the post as she put up her first double-double of the season with 22 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. She also had three assists and three blocked shots. Despite a rough shooting afternoon, Bria Hartley had eight points, s...

Hartley Paces Huskies Past Cougars, 72-24
2011-12-22 03:44:00
Coming off a loss to No. 1 Baylor on Sunday night and the fact that the players' minds may have been on heading home for the holidays, you weren't quite sure how Geno Auriemma's UConn Huskies would come out and play on Wednesday night in Charleston, SC. One thing's for sure, he definitely won't be happy with the way his offense played, especially in the first half. But the defense was outstanding again in the 72-24 win over the College of Charleston Cougars at TD Arena in Charleston in front of a school record 3,863 fans. The Huskies improve to 10-1 while the Cougars fall to 2-8. Bria Hartley led the Huskies with 15 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 13 points and six rebounds. Kelly Faris had a great all around game with 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and led the Huskies with six assists. Jazz Green led the Cougars with eight points, hitting two threes in the second half. Megan Fischer added seven points while Cathryn Hardy led College of Ch...

No Paradise This Time Around For Huskies
2011-11-26 00:57:00
Last season when the UConn Huskies went to Maui for the EA Sports Invitational, we caught a glimpse of how good they might be. This year, while in the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis, we were hoping for the same thing. Instead, we are now left wondering how the team will respond as Marcus Jordan, yes the son of Michael Jordan, put his UCF Knights team on his back in the second half and led them to a 68-63 upset win over UConn in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis at Imperial Arena at Atlantis in the Bahamas. The No. 4 Huskies, who fall to 5-1 on the season and see their 16-game winning streak snapped, will take on the No. 21 Florida State Seminoles for third place on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. UCF improves to 4-1 and will play the Harvard Crimson for the title at 4:30 p.m. Both of those games will be televised on Versus. M. Jordan had 20 points and led his team with seven rebounds and seven assists while Keith Clanton also added 20 points and six rebounds. Isaiah Sykes adde...

Patriots Sign Former UConn Huskies OL Donald Thomas Again
2011-11-23 18:40:00
Just a few days after being released by the New England Patriots, former UConn Huskies offensive lineman Donald Thomas finds himself back in the NFL again. With Matt Light suffering an injury in Monday night's win over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Patriots have re-signed Thomas to the 53-man roster. Stop me if you've heard this one about a 1,000 times this season (actually 17th roster move with him) but Ross Ventrone has been released to make room on the roster for Thomas. Thomas was signed by the Patriots on September 14th and has seen action in four games this season with them. The former Husky was a sixth round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2008. He started one game for the Dolphins in 2008 before being placed on injured reserve list. He played in all 16 games, starting 12 of them, for the Dolphins in 2009. Follow Ian on Twitter @soxanddawgs. Lamb Leads Huskies Past Lions
2011-11-12 04:56:00
It wasn't the brow beating you expected to see from the UConn Huskies men's basketball team in their opener against the Columbia Lions. In fact, it might have been closer than Jim Calhoun would have liked. But when you have a special player like Jeremy Lamb, just like with Kemba Walker last season, you don't have to worry as much as Lamb led the way with a career-high 30 points to help the Huskies to a 70-57 win in front of a sell-out crowd at Gampel Pavilion on campus in Storrs on Friday night. Shabazz Napier was the only other Husky in double figures as he had 21 points to go along with six rebounds, eight assists and two steals. Roscoe Smith added eight points and seven rebounds while Tyler Olander had seven points and eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Freshman DeAndre Daniels blocked three shots for the Huskies (1-0) while Alex Oriakhi led the way with four blocks. It was inauspicious debut for the highly hyped Andre Drummond. While showing flashes of brilliance at times...

McCombs, McCummings Run Huskies Past Orange 28-21
2011-11-05 20:14:00
The UConn Huskies inability to capitalize on turnovers coupled with the fact they committed five first half turnovers almost cost themselves the "Pasqualoni Bowl" on Saturday afternoon against the Syracuse Orange at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT. Fortunately, they did capitalize on a late Syracuse turnover in the fourth quarter when Scott McCummings scored his second touchdown of the game to help the Huskies to a 28-21 win in front of 38,769 fans. With the win, the Huskies improve to 4-5 (2-2 Big East). With the loss, the Orange (5-4, 1-3) fail to become bowl-eligible for the second straight week. UConn got out of the gates quickly as Nick Williams opened up the game with a 61 yard kickoff return. Three plays later, the Huskies found themselves in the end zone when now embattled quarterback Johnny McEntee hit tight end John Delahunt for a 10 yard touchdown pass. For Delahunt, it was the first touchdown pass of his career. The Huskies defense forced a turnover on Syracuse's ...

College Football 77 in 77: #74 NIU Huskies
2011-06-21 20:41:00
From a mid-major standpoint, Northern Illinois University has become "Running Back U." (Leshon Johnson, Garret Wolfe, Michael "the Burner" Turner, Chad Spann). Sure, only Michael Turner is the only one from that group to do anything in the NFL, but these rushers all dominated the collegiate level. NIU will look to keep that running game going in spades this season, with mobile QB Chandler Harnish (although he'll likely need to make more plays with his arm than he did in 2010, the Huskies were 85th in passing last year) with Jasmin Hopkins and Jamal Woble filling in for Spann. It's also a regime change campaign, as Jerry Kill parlayed his record setting 2010 (the Huskies won 11 for the...

The unlucky ones were Danny Lansanah, who was cut by the Green Bay Packers and Dan Davis, who was cut by the Indianapolis ...

Siberian Huskies as Guide Dogs!
2008-03-18 14:59:00
The beauty of a Siberian Husky has captured the hearts of many dog lovers. Those light eyes, and dense coats make them winners any way you look at it. Belonging to the Spitz group, one would never think of them as guard dogs. While leaving those tasks to the Mastiffs, it is undeniable that there is a strong working backbone in the history of the Siberian Husky as well. Having herded Reindeer for over 3000 years, while surviving the harshest of Siberian winters, this is a hardy breed. It is thus not surprising that they are one of the healthiest of dog breeds as well. Over time, the Siberian Husky has developed a strong sense of gentleness and devotion, that makes them loved even more. The Inuit tribes who used this breed for utilitarian and survival needs trained them to pull heavy sledges for great distances over frozen tundra. They are definite survivors. So with this strong sense of devotion, hardy nature, intelligence and trainability, why can’t they excel at being guide dogs ...

Paw Prints - Huskies Committed Secondary Recruiting Violation
2008-03-13 00:00:00
According to ESPN, the NCAA found out that the UConn Huskies women’s basketball program committed a secondary recruiting violation with Maya Moore. “ESPN’s programming department received a request from the UConn’s women’s basketball office to provide a tour to Moore and her mother [Kathryn],” ESPN said in a statement. “We obliged. To avoid any concern in the future, our tour policy will now prohibit high school athletes from receiving tours at the request of a college or university athletic official.” This is not a big deal folks. If the NCAA wanted to lay the hammer down on the Huskies, they already would have. Instead, they file it away and see if the Huskies commit another recruiting violation down the proverbial recruiting highway. If that happens, you might expect the NCAA to put the nail in the coffin then. The UConn Huskies issued a short statement that was brief and to the point. “The institution has worked with the NCA...
Huskies Spank The Bearcats
2008-03-10 02:30:00
After having to wait a day due to the inclement weather in Midwest, the UConn Huskies and Cincinnati Bearcats finally took to the court to finish off the regular season in the Big East. I am pretty sure that the Bearcats wished they didn’t have to play after UConn put a 96-51 beating on them in front of 10,167, many of whom left early to beat the Gampel Pavilion traffic. Stanley Robinson led the way for the Huskies (24-7, 13-5) for the Huskies with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Hasheem Thabeet was a monster again as he had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 8 blocks. He was perfect from the floor (5-5) and the free throw line (5-5). Craig Austrie chipped in with 14 points and 5 assists while Jeff Adrien had 13 points and 5 rebounds.  A.J Price and Jerome Dyson just missed joining their teammates in double figures with 9 points each. Price added 6 assists while Dyson had 6 rebounds in the romp. Cincinnati (13-17, 8-10) was paced by Rashad Bishop and Deonta Vaughn with 9 points each. John W...
