Hyperlocal iPhone App
2008-06-07 07:07:00 A few weeks ago I read about the Mobile Connections thing happening at Supernova 2008. Although I read about it after the deadline, I decided to put together a concept anyway. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to submit it in time, but, as part of my No Photoshop File Left Behind™ Program, I’m going to go ahead and describe the idea, as well as share the Photoshop file, anyway. read it here sarahcpr.com

hyperlocal e-commerce
2007-12-31 13:17:00 Anyone that really knows me knows that I can't handle waiting for things. At the same time I am a total techno weenie and love to research things online to know I am getting the best deals. Most of the time those deals are online only deals. Meaning you have to pay shipping and then wait the 7-10 business days for it. My impatience usually outweighs the deal I could be getting - unless the deal is superb. I would rather drive to pick something up and have it right away then wait to save $5 bucks in price. The combination of the web/instore world is huge for me. Some retailers are doing it well, Bestbuy , Walmart and Target are a few. You browse those sites and have the option to add-to-cart (online) or find instore (local). Some even let you buy online then pick up instore which is awesome. This is a huge opportunity, even for the businesses that don't make sense to sell online (are there any?). You g...

Think big, go hyperlocal.
2007-07-30 21:03:00 Emerging from the ever dynamic digital ooze is a new approach to web use. For the past few years, websites, real estate websites included, have been highly effective because of their national and even international appeal. In many respects, the very strength of a website was its reach; the ability to reach a wide audience. There is a paradigm shift that is taking place. Instead of trying to reach a massive audience, websites and web applications have begun to focus on their own backyards. Viaing not for global domination, but niche domination; going hyperlocal. Mainstream media has a tendency to focus on sensational, shocking or national stories. Filling time with such reports often leaves community level coverage lacking and often overlooked. Originally born out of this lack of community news, hyperlocal reporting began to spring up around the blogosphere. Individuals took it upon themselves to collect news etc from their own neighborhoods. Once this trend established ...
Zillow Goes Hyperlocal With Neighborhood Pages
2007-07-11 16:43:00 Zillow has rolled out their new Neighborhood Pages which may be one of the first effective hyperlocal sites, as long as they focus on real estate. Hyperlocal is the building of sites focusing on one specific area with the intention of giving it coverage of the issues that effect it. So mortgage rates are a topic ...
Massively Hyperlocal Ad Network
2007-06-28 16:20:00 During the dot.com boom, some entrepreneur registered (or tried to) all the zip codes in America,,, in 1999, domain name registration cost $35 per name. Domain names have once again become a land grab business - Financial Times mentions that even the misspelled domain mortage.com recently sold for $242,000 . Tipped by Search Engine Land, Marchex (a company I'm not familiar with) announced yesterday the simultaneous launch of 100,000 local websites with generic domain names like:Cuisine.com, BayAreaHotels.com, SanFranciscoVeterinarians.com and some higher end American zip codes, like 90210.com. The company had gone on a $164 million domain name buying spree last year (imagine having the job of purchasing 100,000 domains). The example websites I perused (listed above) rank local hotels, veterinarians, etc. by aggregating relevant reviews from different sites like Citysearch and Insiderpages. Its current revenue model is nothing more than selling Yahoo ...
Hyperlocal Venues Differentiated
2007-06-13 02:29:00 Earlier this year, I noted that hyperlocal sites like Outside.in, Localism and Street Advisor were coming out in full force, and that this creates marketing opportunities for Realtors. Marlow commented that her Connecting Neighbors site provided a reasonably priced hyperlocal marketing venue: Feb 7, 2007: I really do love my Connecting Neighbors website. It's an easy way for me to keep in touch with people monthly and the different categories, such as "Arts Events" or "Community News" allows me to advertise my friends events, feature and highight them, and then I can send them a link which they often send out to THEIR friends ad it's self-perpetuating. Now that it's set up, it only takes me an hour or two a month to update, and it's an affordable service I can offer. It has replaced monthly snail-mail mailers for me.I don't mean to sound like an advertisement, but I'm just sharing info about a product that I use.Hyperlocal sites continue to launch, and many are positionin...

The Push to Hyperlocal Content
2007-04-13 08:38:00 At Inman News Blog today, I pointed out that the Tampa Tribune is now moving away from print and into developing "hyperlocal" sites that will cover local news and encourage user-generated community content. Since this January , no less than five real estate focused hyperlocal sites have launched. Newly launched hyperlocal real estate site Mission Localism Connect consumer with real estate agent via local content publication My-Currency.com (related article here ) User-generated AVM resource Street Advisor User-generated "street"/community data YourStreet User-generated content by neighborhood - focusing on their real estate markets Super Listing Site Jim Kimmon's beta entree into user-generated content + listings services Not focused on real estate, but appropriate for connecting consumers with agents Outside.in News aggregation and user-generated content by neighborhood Placeblogger (related article here ) ...
Hyperlocal Sites a Real Estate Marketing Opportunity
2007-02-07 15:10:01 Inman News reports on a real estate brokerage partnership with hyperlocal neighborhood site Uppereast.com : "Real estate brokerage Century 21 NY Metro this week announced a marketing partnership with Uppereast.com, a "hyperlocal" Web site with detailed information about the Upper East Side of New York City. Under the agreement, Century 21 NY Metro will provide property search, content and other technology services to Uppereast.com users who are interested in buying or renting apartments on the Upper East Side of Manhattan"Brokerages should be stumbling over themselves for the opportunity to embed their services into the best hyperlocal sites. Uppereast.com is a usable, highly trafficked neighborhood site with a dedicated set of editors and links to blogs and other content that should be the template for neighborhood sites. Frankly, the informational parts of the site - like locations of restaurants, banks, etc. - should take advantage of wiki contributions so it makes updating mor... |
