2008-05-22 17:51:00 No politics weekend, 96 hour break in honor of our fallen hero's Since I was a child I had a deep love for mountains. I would draw all my pictures with mountains in them. I mean every picture. Well due to living in a flat tundra above the 45th parallel groomed for farm crops not the worlds tallest mountains. That combined with life's factors, finances, family, training, I was really never able to live a dream of climbing. Besides a small healthy fear of heights pulled me back words. Well lets face it, it takes a special individual to be a climber. To this day I still dream of Everest. Maybe everyone does. I have no idea. I read books about climbers and their stories. Discovery Channels Everest shows each Fall our some of the best TV ever. In some inner Lizard brain I am pulled to a dream of standing on top of the world. But practicality kicks into gear real quick. Mainly its very expensive live changing event. I need to be a Father and Husband....not a selfish explorer leaving...

If it was John McCain or George W. Bush, you can bet your ass this would be splashed across the front page of CNN and Keith Olbermann's flapping lips would be saying something dumb like "Don't you have any sense of sanctity for the death of one of the greatest civil rights leaders in history sir!". För två veckor sedan bestämde jag mig för att vår resa ska ske innan denna säsong är slut. På den lilla tiden har jag sparat 8200:-. Eftersom mina tidigare besparingar totalt rensats av mig själv, måste jag börja om på NOLL. Men jag tycker själv att 8200:- på två veckor är utomordentligt bra... Tonfisk och storpack med ris, så är vi där nästa vecka.

In late January, I dreamt I was flying/hovering/gliding inside the Grand Canyon in a sort of futuristic helicopter, like a glass bubble. I could see in every direction -- even below me. I was completely engulfed in the grandeur. It was totally mind-boggling and exhilarating, and I awakened feeling both excited and frustrated. Frustrated that despite having been geographically close on several occasions, I'd never had the time to get there, and excited about finally going. I knew it would be soon. On March 1st, I flew to Phoenix and joined my dear friend, Joanie, who was already in the southwest visiting our mutual friends, Jennifer and Andy and Jen's mother, Florence. Their most kind and generous hospitality embraced us on either side of our sojourn to the Canyon.
