Joe Satriani: I Heart guitar interview
2011-10-04 22:54:00
Chickenfoot III. You know the joke by now: the band feels so comfortable in what they?re doing that they feel like they stepped over the difficult second album and went straight to the third. The band ? Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith ? are indeed in fine form on the newly-released album. It still sounds like the Chickenfoot who whipped up such a frenzy with their 2009 debut, but it?s at once more relaxed and more intense, heavier and more detailed. CLICK HERE to buy it from Amazon.com) The first thing that really struck me about this album was that there?s a really identifiable Chickenfoot sound. It doesn?t sound like a Joe Satriani album, it doesn?t sound like a Sammy Hagar album. That?s great, I?m so happy to hear you say that. That?s something that I?ve always felt that we were very lucky to naturally stumble upon. But we didn?t want to overthink it or intellectualise it. Just do it naturally and let it happen. This album is almost like an essay on ...
Chocolates class: I (HEART) Truffles
2011-01-23 21:20:00
I've made truffles before. Well, at least before my most-recent day in culinary school, I thought I'd made truffles before. But the pretty-good, yet quick-and-easy "truffles" I'd whipped up in the past are like distant cousins of the sublimely rich and creamy (though fairly labor intensive) confections we learned how to make in class. Seriously. ...-
Ron Thal: i heart guitar interview
2010-11-20 19:01:00
Let?s hop in the Wayback Machine and jump back to back in the day when you recorded The Adventures Of Bumblefoot. Let?s see, this was the early 90s ? god, can I remember that far back? I was teaching music at a school, every grade from pre-school up to 18 years old, and they didn?t have a music department, so I set up an entire music department for them doing music for children and doing music history, I set up a jazz band, a choir, everything for the whole school. The school ran out of funds and it reached a point where I was just looking at life and I thought, ?There?s no such thing as job security. You just have to follow what you love.? And I did love doing that, but I would do that during the day then I would put braids in my hair and jump in the car and go and do some gig out in New York City at night, then get home at 4 in the morning and an hour later get up and teach again. It was at a point where I really needed to make a choice whether I wanted to have the more normal, s...
Review "TRACES": I HEART "TRACES"!
2010-11-05 00:12:00
A teeter-totter is harmless, right? Sure, until two men plummet from 20+ feet above to land on the teeter to send another guy tottering to the ceiling. Then, a teeter-totter officially becomes a death threat. Broadway in Chicago presents the Chicago premiere of Traces. The Montreal-based performance troupe kicks off its North American Tour at the newly renovated Broadway Playhouse. Six guys and a gal open the show with a strobe-lit pulsating number of flips and tumbles. With exhilarating music and shadow silhouettes, people are flying through the air without wires or nets. Clad in similar suits, the ensemble sheds their attire in a let's-get-down-to-business energy. Traces stomps the mundane with Fuerza Bruta jams and Hephaestus stunts to Rent stories. The result is a heart-pounding, heart-tugging, heart-attacking spectacle. I heart Traces!
Tony MacAlpine: i heart guitar and guitarjar interviews!!

How is writing for Seven The Hardway different from writing your solo material? Well, every vocal record is a lot different from any instrumental project that you?re gonna undertake, because you?re writing things that have different types of foundations for lyrics and melody lines. In that expanse it?s way different. The instrumental music is not really built along those lines. I always say it?s more of a sonata form. So it?s a much different approach but it?s something I?ve always enjoyed. It?s wonderful to work with these guys in that format. Mark?s such a wonderful singer, so it?s really a lot of fun. Did you guys write independently? Together? Both? We did both. We did some things together, some things independently, some ideas were written independently then brought together, Virgil wrote Guilty? different things, different approaches. Liar?s a really great opening track. Liar was a song that took a lot of different shapes and different turns. Working with [producer] Roy Z...
George Lynch: i heart guitar interview
2010-05-19 01:45:00
George Lynch is one busy dude. Souls of We, Lynch Mob, his new album Orchestra Mayhem, not to mention various gear-designing and art projects. Lynch is heading to Australia soon for an Allans Music clinic tour, and I caught up with him via email for this quick chat: You?re coming back to Australia soon for Allans Music. You?re quite a regular visitor here now! What can we expect to see and hear at the Allans clinics? A little bit of everything. Plying along to tracks, improvising with other live musicians, meeting fans and signing my name a lot! lol What can you tell us about Orchestral Mayhem (CLICK HERE to buy Orchestral Mayhem from Amazon.com)? How did you approach it? Very casually. I didnt have to write the material and that takes a lot of pressure off. This record is basically just me blowing over a bunch of tracks over a two-day period Can you tell us about the Morley Dragon 2 Wah? What do you look for in a wah pedal? The wah lock function is a great idea. I always liked t...
Kaki King: i heart guitar interview
2010-04-16 00:36:00
Kaki King is sleepy. She?s only been in bed a few hours after a gig the night before (in Freiberg, Germany), but she has to wake up ridiculously early to field interviews from the Australian press about her new CD, Junior. But buoyed by a great run of shows with her trio, who are really in their groove at the moment, King is in as chirpy a mood as one could possibly summon at such an ungodly hour. ?We were having a good time last night, we all tied one on and, my god, I probably didn?t got to bed until three hours ago!? Much has been made of the pessimistic theme running through the album?s song titles: The Betrayer, Falling Day, My Nerves That Committed Suicide, Death Head. ?There?s no lyrical theme at all, but there?s a theme within the titles,? King concedes. ?During the making of Junior, I was pretty physically and mentally depressed, and I was physically sick and I didn?t know it. It was really, really dumb ? I had an undiagnosed sinus infection and it could have been very eas...
Marty Friedman: i heart guitar interview
2010-04-16 00:34:00
The legendary Marty Friedman is on his way to Australia soon for a clinic tour for Allans Music. Marty is probably best known for his tenure in Megadeth?s classic ?Rust In Peace? line-up, where his amazing mastery of exotic melodies and seemingly limitless technical ability balanced out the ?street-style? power of Dave Mustaine?s rhythm and lead work. But Marty?s playing has always been about much more than metal, and on such diverse albums as Scenes and Music For Speeding he combines a wide array of influences including classical, new age, and Japanese pop. Now a resident of Japan, Marty took time out from his busy schedule to have a chat with I Heart Guitar. Is there anything about Western culture that you miss? Or do you get enough of it on tour? I miss stuff like crazy sweet multi colored cereal and pop tarts, that`s about it. I hope I can get a hold of it in Australia?full interview at iheartguitarblog.com/2010/04/in-terview-marty-friedman.html

Jeff Loomis: clinic report - i heart guitar!
2009-10-17 15:13:00
One of the players who have taken the guitar and put his own stamp on it, done his own twist so to speak, of this current generation is Nevermore's shred lord Jeff Loomis. Jeff is currently out on a clinic tour with Schechter guitars in which he gives some insight to his philosophies regarding writing, playing and gear, as well as shredding through a nice six-song set composed of two Nevermore... That tour obviously didn?t come to Australia, so the DVD was the first thing I?ve seen of that line-up. Steve Vai: First of all, I?m sorry I didn?t make it to Australia. Who were you rehearsing with today? I have a new band that I?m starting up. I don?t want to say anything about it until the line-up is exact. We?re just waiting to see who our bass player is definitely going to be, but it?s going to be heavier than a lot of the other stuff I?ve done. It?s gonna be interesting. A lot of fretless guitar. Satriani: We did this little club tour. We called it a Road Test tour and we played in places that held 400 people, little sweat boxes, and it was so much fun, to take a real rock band like this with a brand new record that no-one had heard and just try to make them hear it and understand it. My T-shirt (and I) Heart Super Grover of Sesame Street
2009-06-02 08:15:00
Do you remember Super Grover, Sesame Street-origin superhero whose famous attire consists of a middle-age styled helmet, a cape with ropes tied around Grover's wrists, and a patch with the letter "G" on his chest? I'm sure you remember this dude. What I remember most from this skinny super hero is his act when he is trying to help someone in trouble by doing something ridiculous such as saying "Woobba, Woobba!". Although Super Grover uses super powers to help people from bad guys, funny thins is he ends up not helping at all -- nonetheless, he had saved me many times from bad moods. I really love this dude. Thanks to 80sTees.com, I can wear my childhood idol T-shirt and let it make my day ($24). Also available in women size, Super Grover T-shirt featuring "I 'heart' Grover" printed down the right side of the design.

I *heart* Macarons
2009-02-09 07:02:00
You would have to live in a cave these days not to realize that Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Those lovely sweet tarts! And the chocolate kisses! And the heart shaped cookies! And the cutest heart adorned cupcakes! Shades of pink and red... everywhere. Well, I guess I live in one because when a friend called and asked if I could make her some macarons for Valentine's Day, I replied "oh yes sure, just remind me when it's closer to that time". Silence. "Ugh, it's soon, really. Like next week!" My turn to be silent.I admit we don't really celebrate Valentine's Day. For as long as I remember I was always stuck at work that evening and even now that we could, B. always seems to have a music gig that night. Nothing against V-Day, not even the countless years of having me hide rings and earrings in desserts at the restaurant! I love romance. I am a hopeless romantic. I love old, well - read books and often create a romantic, often sad story behind their earmarked pages. ...

I [Heart] December
2008-12-03 05:44:00
December already? Ah, crap. But I'd be in denial if I said I'm not excited. ^.^Why? Let me count thee ways...One. Two big, no wait, HUGE events are coming up. Two. It'll be the first time in years that I'll be spending Christmas with the family, and it's the absolute first with some of my relatives from Penang who will be coming over. Not to mention that it'll be the first time that the relatives come to KK, so I wanna make it really special. *Winks*Three. I get to do what I love: plan out the excursions, the family Christmas dinner, book the accomodation, work out the logistics... You get the picture.Four. I'll be taking several day's off from work. Yipee!Five. Someone's coming back for the hols. It's supposed to be a secret, but the cat's out of the bag. *Hehe*Six. There's plenty of excuses to play dress up (something which I hardly do).Seven. It's Christmas!!! Who needs another excuse to be happy???

I Heart Henry Paulson. China Is His Thing.
2008-10-06 01:35:00
Not for anything he has said or done on the bailout, on which even those of us who agree it was necessary cannot truly be happy about. No, I like him for his opinions on what the United States must do in terms of its relations with China. Paulson just came out with a very thoughtful piece in Foreign Affairs Magazine, entitled, "A Strategic Economic Engagement: Strengthening U.S.-Chinese Ties." The summary nicely summarizes the article as follows: "The prosperity of the United States and China depends on helping China further integrate into the global economic system." (h/t to The Black China Hand) Paulson says that no matter how one views China, engagement is the best policy: Some people suggest that China is a threat that must be countered or contained. Others argue that its growth is an opportunity for the U.S. economy and that Washington should manage this rising power through engagement. I believe that engagement is the only path to success. This is the kind of artic...
I HEART this site. (I couldn't resist!)
2008-08-11 01:17:00
This is the kind of thing the Internet should be used for. The great folks over at St. Jude Medical have put up HeartLibrary.com. HeartLibrary has dozens, if not more, interactive videos about the heart, heart conditions, and heart disease. The videos are easy to find, easy to watch, and easy to understand: doctors (real doctors, not fake internet doctors) explain everything in simple terms. This is huge, because people can get information they need to help them stay healthy or get healthy, and to seek help if they need it. It's not a substitute for seeing your own doctor, but it's a good way to get started and to be informed about one of the most important organs in your body.If you or someone you know needs more information about the heart, make sure you check out St. Jude's HeartLibrary.com, with videos about the heart, heart conditions like Irregular Heartbeat and more.
I heart mystery shopping
2008-06-05 00:23:00
I'm getting so much mystery shopping work. It's kind of ridiculous, but I'm pretty stoked about making easy money like this. Especially b/c I get to choose which assignments I do, what stores I want to visit, and when I want to do them. This is the perfect PT job for me.So, I started mystery shopping LAST WEEK, and by this Monday, after I complete all my assignments, I will have made:$65 from Assignment #1 (completed last week)$80 from Assignment #2 (requires one simple purchase per week for 4 weeks straight ... so technically I won't have completed this until the last week of June)$75 from Assignment #3$65 from Assignment #4TOTAL EARNED = $285The reason why I'm earning so much per assignment is b/c I have to evaluate more than 1 department when I go to the store. I don't mind, I'm there anyway. When I e-mailed the woman about getting paid out, she said that on average, we will be paid out for our assignments 30-45 days after we submit our reports. Not bad. That's what I expe...

Ahh, I am such a kid, but I Heart Poop Jokes! Work Poop Survival Guide
2008-05-22 20:46:00
This is an oldie but goodie, I love this joke about work poop. Work poop jokes are good for so many of us with Crohn's Disease. Humor helps! Have a great memorial day weekend all. I have to go Crop Dust! (see below).Work Poop Etiquette We've all been there but don't like to admit it. We've all kicked back in our cubicles and suddenly felt something brewing down below. As much as we try to convince ourselves otherwise, the WORK POOP is inevitable. For those who hate pooping at work, the following is a Survival Guide for taking a dump at work.CROP DUSTING: When farting, you walk really fast around the office so the smell is not in your area and everyone gets a whiff, but doesn't know where it came from. Be careful when you do this. Do not stop until the full fart has been expelled. Walk an extra 30 feet to make sure the smell has left your pants.FLY BY: This is the act of scouting out a bathroom before pooping. Walk In and check for other poopers. If there are others in the bathr...

Jay left me a nice comment explaining that she also enjoys podcasts while sewing. I was going to just reply to her comment, but I was going on and on, so I figured I should make a post about it. To me, listening to a good podcast while sewing (or driving or grocery shopping when I’m alone) is like heaven. Especially if it’s good. I feel the same about a good audio book, although, I’ve been picking duds lately. So I thought I’d share all my favorite podcasts with you. I hope you’ll share a favorite here too if you don’t see it listed! I included links to most of their websites, but I get all my podcasts on iTunes. Here are my free favorites in the strictly audio category: This American Life Slate Political Gabfest The Moth PRI Selected Shorts New Yorker Fiction Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher My favorite video podcasts are Zaproot and Threadbangers. I Heart the Bear...and That's About It.
2008-05-14 17:03:00
by Nicole McIntyreSeveral months ago I posted an article about The Golden Compass and all the hullabaloo. My personal conclusion was that I was going to read the books and see the movie and use my God-given judgment.I just read The Golden Compass in December, not having the time or inclination to delve into the other two books in the series. Last night we finally had a chance to watch the movie. When I read the book, I could certainly see why some people would be offended by the constant use of "The Church" in a negative light. Especially since it was implied that they were corrupt and very Spanish Inquisition about heresy. Didn't really bother me, since we've already seen that in history. And the fact that it's fiction. Certainly in the first book there was no God Killing. I had been told that little tidbit was in the final book and I'm not there yet. So I'll save my final judgement on the literary side when I finish the series.I had also been told by several people that the mo...

The whole collection after the jump.To view all 23 bags, visit the Flickr page here.[Images via Chanel.]Technorati Tags:chanel, handbag
