AT&T sues NASCAR over Cingular paint job on Burton’s ride

Warning: Division by zero in /mounted-storage/home45b/sub001-/sc31841-RDEH/tsunamiduit.com/b-log/wp-content/plugins/tla_5381-5.php on line 407 Filed under: Cellphones, Transportation Even diehard fans of gas guzzling motorcars making entirely too many left turns in succession know that its about more than just the racing, and AT&T is apparently fairly hot and bothered that its mega marketing bucks aren’t resulting in a new paint job. The #31 car, which owned by Richard Childress Racing and driven by Jeff Burton, has been sponsored by Cingular for about six years, but as we all know, AT&T (and its blue sphere) are calling the shots now. Unfortunately, the car’s owners have been less than snappy in addressing the change in logos, and now AT&T is dropping a lawsuit on NASCAR in an attempt to hasten the change. Typically, we would seriously question the sanity of a driver refusing to abide by the wishes of its primary source of funding, but when you’re cruis...

A NASCAR Memory
2007-03-02 17:46:01
“Show us your titties!” The truck full of rednecks chanted in unison as they passed my mother and I walking in the infield of the Pocono Raceway. As an eight year old I asked my mother what were titties, and when she told me what titties were, I thought the red necked men in the back of the green, late 1970’s Ford F250 pickup truck were pretty stupid. NASCAR is almost a sport
2007-02-28 05:38:02
So is it a sport or not? YES: Table tennis, boxing and hockey NO: NASCAR, Golf and Swimming I have heard some radio conversation the last few days about NASCAR in the realm of sports as a whole. I have also read a recent blog post by the Charlotte Observer blogger asking what is and isn?t a sport. This conversation had been settled by my and a friend in our living room one late Friday night. We came to a final and perfect conclusion and system. First off, you must approach all categorizations with no bias or predeterminations. I read a book recently about Anthropology that stated “you?d be amazed how many groundbreaking discoveries have gone on to prove the exact theory the researcher had preconcluded”. What this is to say is that if you go in expecting to find something a certain way, that is generally the way you will decipher it. So for the what is a sport system we first broke up the categories that each “activity” would fall into and predetermined what e...

2007 Nascar Points System
2007-02-16 06:24:01
Changes to NASCAR Points System in 2007 Move Emphasis to Race Victories A shake-up of the points system used in NASCAR races will award an extra five points to race winners, beginning with the 2007 season events at Daytona 500. The changes, announced by NASCAR in January ‘07, were devised to shift emphasis onto drivers winning races rather than merely getting by through consistently finishing within the top ten, a habit that was threatening to dull enthusiasm for the sport. Referring to the point system changes in a statement, NASCAR CEO, Brian France, said “Winning is what this sport is all about. Nobody likes to see drivers content to finish in the top 10. We want our sport, especially during the Chase, to be more about winning.” Each race victory will now result in 185 points, an additional five points over victories achieved under the previous point system. To gain an understanding of how an extra five points can increase the competitiveness of NASCAR racers, j...
Winds of Change Are Blowing in NASCAR 2007
2007-02-16 06:24:01
It’s Time for the Daytona 500! The wait is over, Daytona is here, and this year’s Daytona 500 brings with it a whirlwind of change. During the off-season, NASCAR’s Nextel Cup Series got a huge overhaul! Starting with the points and championship system all the way down to the cars themselves, fans will be hard-pressed to find something that didn’t change. With many 2007 NASCAR drivers changing teams, old sponsors like GM Goodwrench leaving, and rumors of Jeff Gordon nearing retirement age, there is too much to talk about! Therefore, I want to narrow your focus to what I predict will be the top 5 stories of 2007 in NASCAR. But before I give you the top headlines of 2007, let me first tune you in to this week’s schedule. Next Week’s Schedule: Nextel Cup: @ Daytona International Speedway 02/11/07 - 02:10pm NASCAR Nextel Cup Bud Pole Qualifying (determines top 2 positions) 02/15/07 - 02:00pm NASCAR Nextel Cup Gatorade Duel At Daytona (qualifying races ...
Red Sox Ownership Set to Join the NASCAR World
2007-01-26 20:29:01
John Henry, Principal Owner of the Boston Red Sox, and Jack Roush, of Roush Racing are working on a deal that will give the Fenway Sports Group 50% ownership stake in Roush Racing. The final details will be announced before the Daytona 500 on February 18th and maybe as early as Valentine’s Day. The deal could be worth over $50 million dollars. With Toyota coming into NASCAR and spending money like it’s going out of style, Roush Racing is trying to find ways to remain competitive and this seems to be the best way for Roush Racing to accomplish this. Jack Roush had this to say, “That could offset some of the financial energy that a company like Toyota could bring as they bring the resources that they have not garnered from the sport, but from the success of their automobile business elsewhere.” The move could also help NASCAR’s popularity here in the Northeast. Currently, New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, NH hosts two races each year that ...

Niki Taylor marries NASCAR driver
2006-12-29 19:15:01
Supermodel Niki Taylor has married up and coming NASCAR star Burney Lamar.  The two had a quick engagement that lasted only four months. Surrounded by about 60 guests including her children Jake and Hunter Martinez, Taylor and Lamar wed in a ceremony Wednesday at the Grande Colonial Hotel in La Jolla, Calif., according to her rep, Lou Taylor. The bride wore a Vera Wang dress aside her older sister Joelle Bolline, who served as matron of honor, and her niece, who was a flower girl. For even more of a hometown touch, the ceremony was officiated by the couple’s Brentwood, Tenn., church pastor. But for their first dance together, the newlyweds went along with La Jolla’s oceanfront vibe, picking surfer-singer-songwriter Jack Johnson’s romantic “Better Together.” It is the second marriage for Taylor and first for Burney.  Taylor has twin 11-year olds from her first marriage to arena football player Matt Martinez. She dated Keith Urban for a couple of years af...
My Take on the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Championship an
2006-12-02 15:59:07
What are you going to remember about the 2006 Nextel Cup season? Thats the burning question, for me, this racing fan, this writer, this blogger, this person who watched every race this season and for the most part wrote the good and bad about it all, I will remember this..season for its great racing, its couple of sleeper races, its rookie crop, its two demition derby namely at Talladega, its final chase top 10 and its first time champion.Looking at the 2006 season, it was Darrell Waltrip who wrote, "It's always something", "Folks, it seems like there's some issue that we have to deal with every week other than the race itself.". I believe that statement to be true, whether it was the most talked about or talked down it in the garage area namely the Car Of Tomorrow or some fight, it was always something. Ironically, this year started off and ended with same name and team coming to mind...Jimmie Johnson, Jimmie Johnson and that #48 Lowe's Team from Hendrick Motorsports. The #48 Tea...
NASCAR Busch Series Championship and Season Comment
2006-12-02 15:59:07
Congraduation to Kevin Harvick for capturing his second Busch Series Championship in a huge domanating performance which included nine victories and what has got to be a record, a lead of 824 points over Carl Edwards. after the Ford 300 Finale, with that, the final top 10 standings had two busch series regulars including Paul Menard in 6th and Johnny Sauter in 8th and the rest were Cup regulars doing the double duty. When it comes to my thoughts on the Busch Series or what its better know as "the cup lites" at least in 2006, I take the season for what it was with the Nextel Cup Regulars, the racing was interesting and good, I did watch most to all of the races and I also attended one of the races at New Hamphire International Speedway. Two highs was watching David Gilliland pull away from the field in the closing laps at Kentucky to capture his first career victory which purpelled him up to a Nextel Cup ride with RYR and the next week at The Milwaukee Mile watching Paul Menard beat up...
NASCAR Truck Series crowns champion and season wrap-up
2006-12-02 15:59:07
What a season for the 2006 NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series, after last nights finale in Homestead, the season has seen alot of its fair share in the good racing category including watching Johnny Benson grab the lead in the final laps at Michigan to take his first career victory and he followed that up that his season victory at the next race at The Milwaukee Mile which added to his five career victories of the season and put him in contendion for the championship. One of those victories was at New Hampshire, were I got the chance to see him win in person, he fought for the top spot most of the day with Todd Bodine, Matt Martin and others before driving away from the field in the closing laps.Speeking of Martin Martin, just like in the Busch Series, Martin added to an already impressive stats by winning the season best of six victories, including capturing his first career truck series victory at the season opener in Daytona. In just about any race that Martin won this season, five of...

NASCAR gives Carl Edwards fine and probation only for Michig
2006-09-03 08:24:06
From NASCAR.com Article: NASCAR announced Tuesday that Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 60 Ford in the NASCAR Busch Series, has been fined $20,000 and placed on probation until December 31st due to a rule violation at Michigan International Speedway on Aug. 19. No points taken away. Does the punishment fit the crime? Simply put NO, it was a slap on the wrist and nothing more. I will refer you to my posting from last September’s incident in the Busch Series race in Richmond “Gesture costs Truex Jr. 25 points, $10,000 “, what’s the huge difference? I know all incidents are different, but wow. NASCAR.com’s board has been busy with responses, check them out.
