Is Peter Kilfoyle MP really that daft?
2008-03-25 20:52:00 Peter Kilfoyle MP has put forward the following EDM:"That this House notes the impending launch of a purportedly politically neutral magazine called Total Politics; notes that it is fronted by Iain Dale, a failed Conservative parliamentary candidate; further notes that it is being run from Lord Ashcroft's address in Cowley Street and that it is fronted by Lord Ashcroft; and calls upon hon. and right hon. Members to reject the free copies which will be sent to them in the near future."Peter is well aware that Iain Dale is hiring staff from across the political spectrum in an attempt to create an un-biased magazine. This is surely just Peter having a dig at Lord Ashcroft. Does he think that his fellow Labour MPs are too dim to read the magazine and come to their own conclusions? Actually - he could have a point.

Iain Dale puts the cat amongst the EU pigeons.
2007-11-23 07:49:00 Iain Dale's Telegraph column is definitely going to be controversial. Here's a small extract:[Tories should pledge a vote on being in the EU.Stealing other parties' policies is almost de rigueur for politicians nowadays. Gordon Brown is the busiest magpie of all: none the less I suggest that David Cameron looks to the Lib Dems to steal a policy that might mean the difference between being the largest party in a hung parliament and being prime minister of a government with a Conservative majority.]This is going to be a very hot topic over the next couple of days. A brave move by Mr Dale.ConservativeHome disagree with Iain, feeling that it isn't a simplistic question of in-or-out.

Is Iain Dale to be selected as the Conservative candidate for Rochester?
2007-10-05 15:35:00 News from Kent Online tells us that the Conservatives in Rochester are continuing to be frustrated in their efforts to pick the person they want to fight the next general election. Now (Essex boy) Iain Dale has been missing since he went to Ann Widdecombe's birthday party last night. I think it's just possible he may be in the running as the Conservative candidate for Rochester. Any Bets?UPDATE: Iain has been to a meeting in Kent this morning. What could that be about I wonder?UPDATE 2: Looks like I was wrong on this one. Ah well, it was a good guess.

Iain Dale's Guide to Political Blogging, Top 500 Political Blogs.
2007-09-29 08:30:00 Iain Dale's GUIDE TO POLITICAL BLOGGING IN THE UK 2007-8 Iain has posted the Top 500 political blogs from his book. I'm very pleased to say that I came in at No 59, which I think is not too bad for my first ten months of blogging. I did a bit better in the Top 100 right of centre blogs where I ended up in 21st place. What I am particularly chuffed about is my inclusion into the "Who's who of political blogging" section of Iain's book. This section gives a short biography of the top fifty (ish) political bloggers.A very big thanks to everyone that took the time to vote for me. I'll try and do better next year, and now that I'm getting a regular bunch of readers things are definitely looking up. I'll try to keep the blog updated regularly with current political issues (which is not always easy as I work 12 hour shifts). Here are the top 100 political blogs:1 Iain Dale's Diary2 Guido Fawkes3 Dizzy Thinks4 ConservativeHome5 Political Betting6 Devil's Kitchen7 Croydonian8 Nick Ro...

Iain Dale's Telegraph Column - Why the Internet Frightens Politicians
2007-09-22 07:33:00 Iain Dale's Telegraph column is always worth a read and his latest installment, Why the Internet Frightens Politicians is particularly worthy. Iain's blog, Iain Dale's Diary is at the forefront of political blogging in the UK. Iain is also deeply involved in the excellent political web TV channel 18 Doughty Street. Knowing what a great medium the blog is, he is a little exasperated at our political elites failure to take advantage of this free and interactive platform. As Iain points out, American and French politicians are miles ahead of ours in their understanding of the web's importance. What stood out for me in Iain's column was his explanation of why blogging is good for democracy:So if the political parties are failing to use the internet to open up democracy to the masses, who is? The answer is: you. Individuals all over the world are discovering that they can make their voices heard, whether to protest, educate or inform. Gone are the days when the only way a citizen co...

Iain Dale Interviews Mayoral Hopeful Boris Johnson.
2007-09-11 08:12:00 Tonight at 9pm in an interview on internet TV station 18 Doughty Street, Iain Dale talks to the Conservative mayoral aspirant Boris Johnson. In fact if you can't wait until then, you can view it now by clicking HERE. The show lasts half an hour and having read the transcript I can tell you it is not to be missed. It's Pure Boris, here's a taster:ID: What's the first thing that you will do as Mayor of London?BJ: I will rejoice. Obviously in an inclusive way. But I will rejoice that a period of common sense for the government of London will be ushered in. There are several things that I will do in act one, scene one, day one... I want to have a complete review of the vast bureaucracy and some of the organisations that are running, Transport for London, the Met Police, and see how that is all running. But I think the first thing that I will do is commission a study, a competition for the replacement of the Bendy Bus with a beautiful new Routemaster bus for the 21st century. With di...

One of Iain Dale's top referrers
2007-05-10 11:01:00 I've just found out that I'm twelfth on the list of Iain Dale's top referrers. I'm glad that I'm sending visitors to his blog, it's a blog I enjoy reading myself. That said it would be good if I got as many visitors from Iain as I'm sending to him. In fact if I got a tenth of his daily visitors I would be like a pig in poo.
