Ian Kinsler, Undervalued
2008-05-26 09:36:00 Ian Kinsler is a fantasy star. Somehow, I believe he continues to go under the radar. Take a look at the numbers from a season ago. 20 homeruns, 23 steals, and 90 runs from a second baseman! Need I mention, that Kinsler also missed 32 games due to injury? That's 20% of the season. On that note, he would have been projected to 24 homeruns, 28 steals, and more than 100 runs. This season Kinsler...

Trendspotting: Ian Kinsler, Russell Martin
2008-05-21 10:41:00 Normally, when I put these together, I go for some underlying theme connecting the two players (generally position). These are just two players I want to talk about. I was looking at some league leaders and it surprised me to find out that:Ian Kinsler is a perfect 13-for-13 in SB attempts this year. Hitting .301 in front of major league RBI leader Josh Hamilton, I certainly wouldn't expect the Rangers to be green-lighting him, but they have been and fantasy owners have been reaping rewards. Kinsler is outperforming Brian Roberts and BJ Upton in nearly every statistical category (including both in steals). His OPS is nearly .800 and he's just been hitting the ball very well this season. He hit a HR last night and I'm certain the power will be there at season's end. Everyone knew Kinsler was a talented ballplayer and he's showing it so far in 2008. I expect his production to continue - assuming you don't own Chase Utley, I'd see if an owner thinks he will be "selling high" ...

2008-03-28 12:06:00 Ian Kinsler took a nomadic journey to becoming the starting second baseman for the Texas Rangers. There were three different college teams in three seasons. Then after Kinsler was drafted in the 17th round, he made a quick rise through the Texas minor league system, playing for four teams at three levels over three summers. Read ...

CIN Reds Brandon Phillips and TEX Rangers Ian Kinsler get Extensions
2008-02-21 00:25:00 I wasn’t able to cover either pieces when they broke, but both Cincinnati Reds 2B-R Brandon Phillips and Texas Rangers 2B-R Ian Kinsler received contract extensions. You’re not going to be surprised to hear that I like both of these moves for both of these teams. The Reds gave Phillips a four-year $27 million deal ...

Ian Kinsler
2007-07-03 05:08:00 The Rangers placed secondbaseman Ian Kinsler on the disabled list with a stress fracture in his foot. The injury could sideline him from 3-6 weeks. During this time, the pain of losing a hitter with 14 HRs and 11 SBs will fade as the gain of losing a hitter with a .241 AVG strengthens. When that process is complete, Kinsler will become the same player he was this past winter - a sleeper at secondbase. Why? Kinsler has an atrocious .243 BABIP. For those who believe in the near certainty of a hitter regressing to a BABIP in the .300 range, then Kinsler is the player to target for that late season run to the top of all the categories. In addition the regressing to the mean, I believe in Kinsler because he boosted his walk totals relative to his rookie campaign. After drawing 40 free passes in 423 ABs in 2006, Ian has already drawn 35 in just 263 at-bats this year.

The Up and Down Year of Ian Kinsler
2007-06-25 17:54:00 (Ed Note: The day after this post BaseballHQ did their own look at Kinsler. I guess they are reading this blog!) It has been a roller coaster for Kinsler this year. After a very hot April, he has cooled down considerably. What can we expect going forward?? Here are his monthly splits:April: 9 HR 22 RBI 4 SB .298/.379/.667May: 1 HR 5 RBI 3 SB .174/.248/.278June: 3 HR 5 RBI 4 SB .242/.338/.452Forget Jekyll and Hyde, he has been Bonds and Neifi Perez. The surprise is that he was a model of consistency last year after May:June: .253/.322/.443July .293/.358/.434Aug: .273/.328/.373September: .267/.327/.444The difference?? Merely statistical variation, or "bad luck." In 2006 his contact rates ranged from 81% to 87% in the months above. In 2007, they have been 85%, 79% and 90% respectively. This variation in contact rate has led to a large swing in hit rate, which is currently at a piddling 23%, after being a lofty 35% in April. As it turns out, so far he has been very unlucky in this depa... |
