TRAPAGA EN CATARATAS DE IGUAZU
2008-05-20 21:02:00

Rio de Janeiro, Iguazu Falls, Montevideo, Santiago and Buenos Aires Thanks for everything. We had a great trip. If I have to rate, I would say the tour operator in Rio De Janiero was the best. Thanks once again. We really appreciate your service, Somnath G. - Sunnyvale, CA addthis_url = 'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.latinamerica4-less.com%2Fblog%2F%3Fp%3D48'; ...
Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls, South AmericaIguazu Falls image courtsey: worldleader.com.ar Not one or two ... 275! These torrential falls about 275 of them within a distance of 2.7 km some of them about 82 meters in height, the deafening sounds of all combined, all closely accessible has such an impact that anyone who has a heart gets overwhelmed. ?Iguazu has a daily beauty in it which makes Niagara ugly!? it made Eleanor Roosevelt who remarked with a sigh ?poor Niagara? comparing Iguazu with Niagara of her native land. Niagara Falls ?the pride of her continent ?where millions stand in ovation; a not so much heard of waterfall from a remote corner of the world; outsmarting Niagara came something like a shock to the former first lady. A trump card. These falls altogether 2.7 km in length comes between Argentina and Brazil; have the added advantage of easy access either from Foz do Iguazu of Brazil or Parana and Puerto Iguazu of Argentina. It was Alvar Nenez Cabesa who discovered th...

From Rio/So Paulo to Iguazu
2007-04-11 00:00:00
How do I get from Rio or So Paulo to Iguazu? You can either fly or take the bus. The main airlines (TAM and Gol) fly to Iguazu both from Congonhas and Guarulhos in So Paulo, and from Galeo and Santos Dumond in Rio. The cheapest fare I could find today, with GOL, is R$219 from So ...
Iguazu Falls, Brazil

Taller than Niagara Falls, twice as wide with 275 cascades spread in a horsehoe shape over nearly two miles of the Iguazu River, Iguaz Falls are the result of a volcanic eruption which left yet another large crack in the earth. The Falls are shared by the Iguaz National Park (Argentina) and Iguau National Park (Brazil). These parks were designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1984 and 1986 respectively. The view from the Brazilian side is the most panoramic and there are helicopter rides out over the falls from Foz do Iguau. You may also take boat rides out to the falls. The light is best in the morning for photographs. Best seen from the Brazilian side is the spectacular Devil's Throat, garganta del diablo, where fourteen falls drop 350 feet with such force that there is always a 100 foot cloud of spray overhead. Watch for the rainbow! For a close up view, walk through the subtropical forest of National Iguau Park to the base of Salto Floriano and take the elevator to the to...
Review of Iguazu Falls, Argentina & Brasil

Given my enthusiasm for ugly towns, you can imagine my joy at landing on the Brasil-Argentina border. We are on our way to the Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, and its magnificent falls, the world’s biggest. But forget that. I want to head downtown - to Foz do Iguaçu, the town of 300,000 people which sits, as the name implies, at the mouth of the river.

I’m always fascinated by ugly towns: Chongqing, Nairobi, Detroit, Dundee. They’re ugly because they are (or have been) centres of industrial-economic activity: working towns. They may not have a Hyde Park or a Champs Elysee, but if you scratch just a little beneath the surface of an ugly town, you’ll find hidden treasures, quirky stuff which doesn’t exist anywhere else. For example, next time you’re in Detroit, check out the Cadieux Cafe, one of the last places in the United States where you can play authentic Belgian feather bowling and enjoy a bowl of steamed mussels at the same time.
