Socialized Health Care is A ?Moral Imperative? Founded on Immorality
2008-02-25 13:00:00 I was driving to work yesterday morning and Fox News was on the XM. I think “The Cost of Freedom” was on when I heard Ben Stein say that universal health care was a “moral imperative.” At first, I thought he was joking, but then he went off on some class warfare rant about the rich and waiting lists for Bentleys and country clubs. I was stunned. I don’t hear a lot from Ben Stein, but I have always heard he was more right than left. But when you combine this comment with his financial support of Al Franken’s campaign, it makes me wonder. Let’s break down what Ben is advocating here. It sounds really good when he says that government provided health care is “a moral imperative” because the rich are rich enough and can spare another 5 percent (he actually said that). But here is what is going on in reality. It isn’t just the rich carrying a tax burden. I go to work. I work 12 hours and I go home. For the work I cont...
Sexual Immorality

Kentucky Fried immorality
2008-02-06 17:04:00 The night I got back from up North I headed to Pauls, picking up KFC on the way. Ive read all of the literature on why the consumption of KFC isnt good: Kiwi for Cruelty Kentucky Fried Cruelty PETA KFC Archives Yes, ALL, and feel very grotty when ever I indulge but…I like it and no amount of cussing myself for my failings has worked thus far. I will continue to try. KFC on Aucklands Quay St has great staff. I always leave with warm fuzzies having received a smile which would light up a black hole and a “have a good evening” sincere enough it almost guarantees you will. This particular visit I had one helluva brainwave. I always get an Ultimate 1/4 Pack, no upsize, regular chicken and pepsi, takeaway. The drinks are always curse but in all my years of purchasing drive through beverages it has NEVER occurred to me to ask them not to fill it up so much. Im stunned. What a concept. It was wonderful. An incident at KFC on Quay St highlights a particu...

The piece is from the Journal of Religion and Society. It is cross-national comparison of the more secular vs. the more religious developed democracies. Sexual Immorality And Worldliness Plague The Bahamas - Says Anglican Archbi
2007-09-27 23:15:00 Gomez: Sexual immorality and worldliness plague the nation - By STAFF WRITER, Nassau Guardian: Nassau, Bahamas: Anglicans were beseeched to hear the call of Jesus like St. Matthew and follow Him, by Archbishop Drexel Gomez at St. Matthew's Church, as the historic parish celebrated its Feast of Title on Sunday. The televised service was celebrated by the Archbishop Drexel Gomez, Primate of the West Indies and Bishop of The Bahamas, as he congratulated the members of St. Matthew's for their continued service in the building up of God's Kingdom on earth. The Archbishop however noted that sexual immorality and worldliness in The Bahamas are things that bring great concern to him. "We have allowed our society to accept worldly values and worldly standards, and when we are going with the crowd we are going into the wrong direction," he said. "We are having a state of affairs in which it is alright to be immoral, and if we don't change, it would get worse, before it gets any bett...

Immorality doesn’t pay
2007-05-02 18:25:00 Since its earliest days, America has supported ugly regimes for a variety of reasons: reputable European realpolitik, the dictators’ openness to foreign investment, and simply because other options were still worse. Idealism had slowly poisoned American foreign politics. United States has entered the world wars against Germany for no reason of national significance, but to establish America, a newcomer to world politics, as global hegemon. The might bred pride. Danger and costs restricted idealism and pride initially, but things changes after the WWII propelled United States into the superpower status. America could bring light and build ambitions safely and at relatively moderate cost. Thus came the dubious wars in Korea and Vietnam, and non-feasible but image-building protection of Western Europe against Russia. America behaved like an ambitious, unchecked giant. Each stratum got a piece of pie: idealists defended the free world against communism, while imperialists extended Ame...

Atheism leads to immorality? Bunk!
2007-01-01 16:15:01 Us atheists have had to put up with a lot of manure being pedalled as informed ethics in order to smear us with the crimes of Pol Pot, Stalin and Hitler. We got it from hardcore apologists, we get it from culture warriors, most of all though, we get it from fakes. Bigoted phobics who want to maintain the "moral instruction" of their flock through fraudulent pretence to moral authority. They say that their morality comes from God, which in turn through their scholarship of their religions texts, naturally puts them in a position of power relative to their flock. The idea that the Godless can discern morality threatens these snake-oil moralists, these theological demagogues who never adapted to the Enlightenment.Take the hypothetical story of Bruce babysitting little Timmy...Bruce was born Godless into a non-God-fearing family who never went to church nor had a Bible in their house. His parent's parents weren't church goers either and Bruce's Grandparents kept their religious views ... |
