In the Shadow of the Moon
2008-04-17 00:51:00 In the Shadow of the MoonPlotThe surviving members of NASAs various Apollo missions tell their own sides of the story.ReviewOf the 12 human beings who actually set foot on another world, only nine are still with us. In David Sington?s wonderful documentary, the remaining Apollo astronauts recount their lunar experiences directly to camera. We are treated to good-humoured anecdotes (Michael Collins), glimpses at scientific method (Buzz Aldrin) and an overwhelming sense of a team working together at the right time, for the right reasons.Almost 40 years after Apollo 11?s historic first moon-landing, the lovingly restored footage still retains power. Even with the reclusive Neil Armstrong sadly absent, the film succeeds as a reminder of human endeavour.VerdictThis wonderful documentary succeeds as a reminder of human endeavour.Source: EmpireOnline
In The Shadow of The Moon
2008-03-29 03:57:00 It's interesting that Sunday Scribbling's prompt for this week is "Out Of This World" because we just watched the the DVD In The Shadow Of The Moon last Night. It was indeed an out of this world experience for the astronauts, and while watching this DVD it was almost an out of this world experience for us. I encourage you to watch the DVD. But it does not end there. Out of this world exist not only the moon, but the universe, the galaxy, the heaven. And the more I see and learn about these wonderful universe, the more I am convinced that there is a Creator, and He is Indescribable.Beyond this world;beyond my dreams;beyond the gloryof this Earth. There is a God;there is a Lord;there is a CreatorI have no doubt, there is.***Visit Sunday Scribblings for more scribblings on Out Of This World

CD Review: In the Shadow of the Moon Soundtrack, by Philip Sheppard
2007-10-30 02:17:00 In the Shadow of the Moon is a documentary examination of an amazing moment in American history: the Apollo missions that flew to the moon. As the film score composer Philip Sheppard states in his Composer’s Note inside the soundtrack album, “To say this material is musically inspiring would be a massive understatement.” Sheppard has ...
In the Shadow of the Moon
2007-10-09 01:10:00 I was lucky enough to see a preview of the documentary "In the Shadow of the Moon, which will be showing at the London Film Festival in October. It was showing at the Rex cinema, a plush, velveteen theatre lurking at the bottom of some menacing red Lynchian corridors and stairs. The film tells the story of the Apollo moon landings through the words and observations of many of the astonauts who carried out the missions. This might seem an odd choice of subject at this point in time, given the fact that we have never been back to the moon in the last 30 years, and the relative lack of manned space exploration being conducted now. But the success of Andrew Smith's 2005 book "Moondust" proved the continuing interest in the Apollo space program. Is the success of that book and the appearance of this film purely coincidental? Did the book prompt the production of a film? Did the astronauts, or someone else, want control over their version of events? If you have read Moondust then...

In the Shadow of the Moon
2007-10-03 15:37:00 "If I were to say, my fellow citizens, that we shall send to the moon, 240,000 miles away from the control station in Houston, a giant rocket more than 300 feet tall, the length of this football field, made of new metal alloys, some of which have not yet been invented, capable of standing heat and stresses several times more than have ever been experienced, fitted together with a precision better than the finest watch, carrying all the equipment needed for propulsion, guidance, control, communications, food and survival, on an untried mission, to an unknown celestial body, and then return it safely to earth, re-entering the atmosphere at speeds of over 25,000 miles per hour, causing heat about half that of the temperature of the sun--almost as hot as it is here today--and do all this, and do it right, and do it first before this decade is out--then we must be bold." Last night I fortunate enough to catch a screening of "In the Shadow of the Moon". A tremendous documentary about the...
David Sington 002, "In the Shadow of the Moon" director: Mr. Media Intervie
2007-09-28 02:01:00 (Return to Part 1)BOB ANDELMAN: Were you surprised at how poor the film quality was from Apollo 11 compared to what there was later? I mean, it?s not like better equipment wasn?t available by 1969.DAVID SINGTON: The TV footage is very poor quality, but some of the film footage is fine. Our shots of Neil Armstrong stepping on the moon are not the ones that we are used to seeing, which is the TV downlink which is very, very fuzzy, but it?s a shot on film from inside the LEM, and you can see the reflection of Buzz Aldrin, the reflection in the window of Neil Armstrong taking that first step, so there is some pretty decent 16mm film footage, but there isn?t very much of it. There is a very small quantity. It?s interesting how the TV footage, though, improves between Apollo 11 and Apollo 17. By the time you get to Apollo 17, the color pictures coming back from the moon are getting reasonable quality, though they?re never as good as the actual film footage shot on the moon, which we sort ...

David Sington 001, "In the Shadow of the Moon" director: Mr. Media Intervie
2007-09-28 01:57:00 In the Shadow of the Moon, the new documentary directed by David Sington, captures all the emotion and enthusiasm about space travel that once transfixed the American public and seems strangely absent from today?s world of technology.I was eight years old when the Eagle landed on the Moon in July 1969. I haven?t been the same since. I anticipated a lifetime ahead of flying around the neighborhood with jet packs, manned missions to Mars, and all kinds of things that, before that July day, were science fiction and after, well, they seemed just around the corner. Now I?m approaching my 47th birthday, and none of my expectations of a space age came to pass. None. Zero. Zip.Watching In the Shadow of the Moon, I remembered that lost feeling. It?s a wonderful experience, which is why I looked forward to talking with director David Sington.DOWNLOAD THE MP3; LISTEN HERE.ALSO AVAILABLE AS A PODCAST ON iTUNES.Subscribe to Mr. Media's RSS Feed.BOB ANDELMAN: I loved the movie. Movie Preview: In the Shadow of the Moon
2007-09-14 00:28:00 When I saw the trailer for In the Shadow of the Moon, a new documentary by David Sington and presented by Ron Howard, I knew I wanted to see it. Then Cinematical's take on the film only further reinforced this desire: "Combining new interviews with archival footage — from NASA and other sources — In the Shadow of the Moon's both transcendently beautiful and impressively down-to-earth. The footage of the moon missions — some of it never seen before — is both beautiful and magnificent; the interviews with the astronauts (with the notable absence of Neil Armstrong) are human and humble. There are no interviews with cultural commentators or scientists or NASA administrators — just the small group of men who've been to our nearest celestial neighbor: This is who we are; this is what we did." For any of you who ever wanted to be an astronaut as a kid, or for those who have simply wondered what a trip to the moon must have been like, this film's for you. In the Shadow of the ...

In The Shadow of the Moon trailer
2007-07-15 06:19:00 Well a new trailer has been released for the upcoming documentary In The Shadow of the Moon. I am not really this infatuated with the moon but I gotta give props to the people who will probably be debunking all the theories that men didn’t land on the moon. I’ll just take the synopsis from ... |
