Fools Rush In Part Deux

Both Jossip and Gawker gleefully jumped the gun when they reported a "Fox News intern" blabbed on her blog: "My head boss, a fairly well-known producer, gave me a Meryl-Streep-in-Devil-Wears-Pra-da long list of things to do one day, 3 hours before I had to leave." Jossip Later he walked in, threw his healthcare card on my desk, and said, "Oh, by the way, figure out my healthcare stuff, would ya? Like the online account." GawkerLet's go on the record with USC junior "Bookworm" blogging on College On The Record: "I actually don't work at Fox News, but a different subdivision at Fox. I don't know anything about O'Reilly, but I will say that everyone here has been extraordinally nice.Jossip snidely retracts: "Bad news, kiddos: The USC student who was said to be interning at FNC is actually just interning at one of the bajillion divisions of Fox (okay, it?s 20th Century Fox in LA). Not that writing about her experience there is any less stupid." "The Foolish Fox News Intern Blogger Do...

I have spent the last several years trying figure out if the Bush/Cheney administration and the neocons are stupid and delusional, just plain crazy or if there is some bizarre method to their madness. I'm beginning to think it must be all of the above. They are constantly ranting about Iran but they have and continue to do all of Iran's dirty work in Iraq. They toppled Iran's arch enemy, Saddam, they put the most pro-Iranian elements in Iraq in power and they continue to defend those elements with US blood and treasure. The latest example is this:Iraqi Army Takes Last Basra Areas From Sadr Force But of course they didn't do it alone. BAGHDAD ? Iraqi soldiers took control of the last bastions of the cleric Moktada al-Sadr?s militia in Basra on Saturday, and Iran?s ambassador to Baghdad strongly endorsed the Iraqi government?s monthlong military operation against the fighters.By Saturday evening, Basra was calm, but only after air and artillery strikes by American and British forc...

Heinous gasbag Marty Davis continues her envy-fueled denigration of FNC's Courtney Friel for the third time in four days (and the sixth time in the past nine!) on her painfully wretched blog. Marty, we know your best days are far behind you. We know Courtney has reached heights in this business that you only approached in your misguided dreams. We know that while she spends her days working for the most powerful name in news, you are relegated to blogging in your "adorable" pink bathrobe. How could you not be envious? Why would you not lash out on a daily basis? Can we expect more poison from you the higher she climbs, which seems to be in direct relation to the lower you sink? 'Tis a bitter pill, Ms. Davis, but you best swallow anyway, though it never seemed to help your career advancement. For once the day comes that your little blog no longer spreads hate across the world, our planet will only be all the better for it. And I say all of this not out of hate, but out of sadness, ...
Complete Incompetence Describes This Session
2008-04-03 04:22:00
I have to rant, again, about the need for recurring revenue in our budget Our budget process has became politicized, but isn't it always, and we have no options for revenue and the most disappointing aspect of this session, besides the fact that virtually NOTHING happened, is the fact the we had choices. Mark Hebert has coined this budget as the "trust me budget" because House leaders are begging members to vote YES for NO projects with the promise they will create a magical bill to give them their projects later and it will magically pass both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly before session end. Throw casinos to the hungry wolves, its over, with KEEP going after Governor Beshear's throat we might as well declare the possibility dead. And so goes the revenue that would have been generated from the concept. We may experience another disaster in regards to the failure of casino gaming in Kentucky and that disaster is the likely deterioration of Kentucky's horse racing ...

If you can stomach dating MSNBC blowhard Keith Olbermann, the role does have its perks. As shocking as the evil of the Bush administration is it takes second to the complete incompetence the administration as demonstrated. The members of the Bush administration would have been at home in Leonard Wibberley's Duchy of Grand Fenwick. The newest example of the deadly incompetence of the Bush/Cheney cabal is documented by David Rose in Vanity Fair; The Gaza BombshellGo read the article but here are the facts in a nutshell: The administration demanded that elections be held in Palestine, the Democracy thing you know.Hamas won 56 percent of the seats in the Legislative Council which took everyone in the administration by surprise. They must not have been listening to Rumsfeld when he said Democracy is messy. The Bush administration told the Abbas to dislove the recently elected government and declare Marshall law. They then armed his party, Fatah. When word of this leaked out the result was a civil war which Hamas won.Hamas confiscated most of the US supplied weapons are are now...

For months President Bush harangued Democrats in Congress for not moving quickly enough to support the troops and for bogging down military bills with unrelated issues. And then on Friday, with no warning, a vacationing Mr. Bush announced that he was vetoing a sweeping military policy bill because of an obscure provision that could expose Iraq?s new government to billions of dollars in legal claims dating to Saddam Hussein?s rule.[....]In a ?statement of disapproval,? or pocket veto that lets the bill expire on Dec. 31, Mr. Bush said that the provision could result in preliminary injunctions freezing Iraqi assets in American banks ? $20 billion to $30 billion, according to a senior administration official ? and even affect commercial ventures with American businesses.Of course The New York Times fails to mention that since the Senate is officially...

Incompetence At The Highest Level- Part 1
2007-11-22 22:46:00
In a business environment, it is imperative for managers and executives to fosterteamwork, facilitate group problem solving and focus the group?s attention and enthusiasm on continuous improvement. Naturally, it is a forgone conclusion to expectthat the federal government is well equipped and prepared to protect the American people, guide them through destructive and tumultuous times and provide hope and optimism, instead of negativity and despair. It has become increasingly evident over the past seven years that through dishonesty, amateur style leadership and unskilled and unprofessional men and women, the American taxpayers have lived through destructive and abominable events that will forever persist. Moreover, incompetence has reigned supreme in Washington. When the war in Iraq was first sanctioned by the 109th Congress back in 2003, our commander and chiefs approval rating skyrocketed to its highest mark ever and democrats and republicans were in agreement about the goal at hand. ...

This is why I admire writer Camille Paglia: Hillary's stonewalling evasions and mercurial, soulless self-positionings have been going on since her first run for the U.S. Senate from New York, a state she had never lived in and knew virtually nothing about. The liberal Northeastern media were criminally complicit in enabling her queenlike, content-free "listening tour," where she took no hard questions and where her staff and security people (including her government-supplied Secret Service detail) staged events stocked with vetted sympathizers, and where they ensured that no protesters would ever come within camera range. That compulsive micromanagement, ultimately emanating from Hillary herself, has come back to haunt her in her dismaying inability to field complex unscripted questions in a public forum. The presidential sweepstakes are too harsh an arena for tenderfoot novices. If Hillary is the Democratic nominee, I will certainly vote for her. But I continue to find it hard to ...

Most could see the problems with the PKK coming and many could see a way to avert them. Unfortunately none of those people were in the Bush administration' State Department.A Missed Moment In Iraq The Bush administration has only itself to blame for the quandary it faces with Turkish forces poised to intervene in northern Iraq. The Turks want to retaliate against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), whose insurgents killed 12 Turkish soldiers Sunday. A massive retaliation would be a major misfortune for Turkey, Iraq and the United States.First, it would undermine the stability of the only part of Iraq where the United States is welcome. Second, it could plunge Turkey into an Iraq quagmire of its own.Sadly, this crisis was predictable and predicted. U.S. officials have long known that a Turkish incursion was just one terrorist event away. As tensions mounted, the administration had numerous opportunities to engage in preventive diplomacy. Corruption, Incompetence and Iraq
2007-10-21 06:58:00
We can come up with a lot of reasons that the Bush/Cheney cabal invaded and occupied Iraq; oil, middle east hegemony etc. But what if they just wanted to turn the middle east into a temporary cookie jar for their friends - a quick chance to make some big bucks. Frank Rich talks about the Iraq war and the seemingly unending corruption which is even more prevalent the the apparent incompetence. Set against the epic corruption that has defined the war in Iraq, Mr. Riechers?s tragic tale is but a passing anecdote, his infraction at most a misdemeanor. The $26,788 he received for two months in a non-job doesn?t rise even to a rounding error in the Iraq-Afghanistan money pit. So far some $6 billion worth of contracts are being investigated for waste and fraud, however slowly, by the Pentagon and the Justice Department. That doesn?t include the unaccounted-for piles of cash, some $9 billion in Iraqi funds, that vanished during L. Paul Bremer?s short but disastrous reign in the Green Zone. ...

Tom's opening line: One thing, at least, was made painfully clear by Matt Lauer's interview with Sen. Larry Craig on NBC last night: Matt Lauer is no Mike Wallace. Lauer was anything but hard-hitting or confrontational with the Idaho Republican, arrested in June for alleged homosexual solicitation in a Minneapolis airport men's room.Lauer danced around Wide Stance with tentative, apologetic questions avoiding the real red meat. The Incompetence of Harry Reid
2007-09-21 18:30:00
It's been another bad week for the Democrats in the Senate. Steve Soto explains that it's largely the result of the incompetence of Majority Leader harry Reid. Steve also has some advice for Reid on what he should do now. If Reid now knows that the Senate GOP will keep playing this game, he needs to cobble together one omnibus alternative that includes Webb-Hagel and whatever mission change proposal from Reed or Salazar or whomever has the whip hand at the time. He needs to try one more time with this as the one and only alternative to the "blank check" rubber stamp. And when McConnell filibusters this, then walk away and let the Senate GOP filibuster until hell freezes over. When Bush begins to bellow about how it is the Senate's job to send him something he can sign, Reid should immediately correct him and say that it is not the Senate's job to be a rubber stamp, but rather to protect American troops and our national security, a responsibility that Bush has abandoned.

The incompetence of the Bush Administration
2007-08-29 06:17:00
Dan Balz has an interesting article on how the descent of the Bush administration began with the catastrophic incompetence following Katrina. Bush's presidency took a fateful turn during Katrina and reminders of the damage inflicted from that storm were resurrected again this week with the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. What linked the two events -- and what has left the president permanently weakened -- were perceptions of incompetence within the Bush administration.Certainly Bush suffered from other problems as Katrina began to make its way through the Gulf of Mexico. By then, public support for the war in Iraq had begun to significantly erode. By then the president's audacious plan to restructure Social Security was on life support on Capitol Hill. His approval rating had fallen into negative territory. But the storyline of a bungling administration was far from fully realized before Katrina hit the coast. Democrats had lost too many elections to Bush to concl...

AP's Robert Burns has just returned from Iraq and reports there are some military gains. In two weeks of observing the U.S. military on the ground and interviewing commanders, strategists and intelligence officers, it's apparent that the war has entered a new phase in its fifth year.It is a phase with fresh promise yet the same old worry: Iraq may be too fractured to make whole. No matter how well or how long the U.S. military carries out its counterinsurgency mission, it cannot guarantee victory.Only the Iraqis can. And to do so they probably need many more months of heavy U.S. military involvement. Even then, it is far from certain that they are capable of putting this shattered country together again. It's been an uphill struggle from the start to build Iraqi security forces that are able to fight and?more importantly at this juncture?able to divorce themselves from deep-rooted sectarian loyalties. It is the latter requirement?evenhandedness and reliability?that is furthest from...
