Tickets were expensive and one of the performers, Charu, missed her flight.Despite all that, Prashant Tamang?s show in Thimphu, though not a roaring commercial success, went down well with the waiting audience. The third Indian idol?s first song of the evening, Jab se tere naina from the film Saavariya followed by Bhegay hoot teri from Murder was welcomed with whistling and cheers as the short and perky singing sensation set the Thimphu crowd dancing with old sentimental Nepali and hit Hindi songs. The show went on till midnight as more people poured in after the organizers slashed ticket rates to a uniform Nu 100 from the earlier Nu 300, 500 and 700. Many chose to watch for free from nearby buildings and the flyover area opposite the concert arena. The response overwhelmed the singer. Following a confusion of last-minute bureaucratic procedure and protocol, the show has been postponed. Official approval for live musical concert was given, then revoked and the matter was bounced about between agencies. Eventually, it took the Lyonchen himself to step in between and put an end to the long and winding game. The concert will be performed on May 24. Although approved earlier on April 24, the live show was revoked by the culture department on April 28 on grounds that foreign artists weren?t permitted to perform in the country. The Thimphu City Corporation had approved the posters and banners for the concert on April 1. BICMA removed all posters and banners pasted in town on April 25. Although his visit has not been publicised much, family sources confirmed that Tamang will land at the Bagdogra airport tomorrow afternoon. His itinerary has not been fixed as the family is discussing taking Tamang to Kalimpong ? his uncle resides at Tirpai ? for a break before he finally comes to his house in Toongsoong. Tamang, 24, from Darjeeling, is a former member in the police band in Kolkata. The finale was an all North east affair as Tamang took on 24-year-old Amit Paul, who hails from Shillong. The results were announced at a gala in New Delhi with the final witnessing a seven crore people sending in their votes. As Bollywood actor John Abraham announced Tamang the winner, the constable thanked his mother in a voice choked with emotion. "I thank my mother, public and the Bengal police for granting me the permission for participating in the show," he said. The contest saw the entire Northeast coming together irrespective for their ethnic differences in support of the two singers. Meghalaya which has a history of violence between the tribals and settlers, especially Bengalis, rallied behind Paul, who is a Bengali.

The violence broke out Friday when supporters of Prashant Tamang, the recent winner of the TV singing competition, took to the streets of Siliguri, a town in the eastern state of West Bengal, to protest what they perceived as a radio show host's ethnic slur against Tamang, said state police official R.J.S. Nalwa. Tamang is an Indian citizen of Nepalese origin.

Two contestants Amit paul and Prashat tamang has been reached to final. Prashat comes from Indian Security force and resides in Darjeeling. Amit Paul comes from Meghalaya. This is going to be a tough batter between these talented singers. The result will be according to the sms voting received from the viewers. Even in the holy month of Ramadan many young people (though not all) can be found talking animatedly about Indian musical programmes like Indian Idol and Voice of India. The names of these programs are manifestos of themselves, they are not our idols and they are not our voices, then why in the hell we should be so mad about them?And to add insult to injury, they are musical and dance program with semi-nudity and brash proceedings. I have also heard that these programs often celebrate the Hindu festivals of Holi and other religious occassions with fervour. It's clearly a ploy to infuse Hindu culture in the young minds of Pakistani youth. It's high time that authorities should take notice, and ban such programs. This will create lots of hue and cry from the so called enlightened section of society, but they are there, just ready to shed their clothes, so authorities shouldnt worry much about them.
