Access to Soekarno-Hatta Airport back to normal
2008-02-06 23:12:00
It's been a hard weather here in Jakarta for the past week, specially in last Friday. I tried to inform the condition but unfortunately I can't be on line for 24 hours per day. Flood in several areas in Jakarta including the freeway to the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, fog at the airport which closed the airport for about 3.5 hours that day and several flights were transfered to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport are the main issues last week.In my opinion, the access to the international airport in Jakarta (actually it's located in Tangerang, Banten) is very-very poor. There is only one poor highway and limited main roads in Tangerang that can accommodate the traffic. There are no trains, no LRT/MRT and no fly-overs from/to airport to/from Jakarta City, there are no LRT/MRT. There are buses but they still use the one and only highway.Indeed it's a bad campaign for Visit Indonesia Year program. Latest news from Jakarta Post said that access to the airport back to normal. That...

EU tells Indonesian airlines "more work to do"
2007-11-10 11:05:00
Visiting European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) officials have asked Indonesian airlines and the government to improve the country's air transportation performance following a ban issued earlier this year, according to local media on Saturday. The officials were in Indonesia from Monday to Friday for technical surveillance, oversight and verification of national airlines, after the European Commission (EC) decided in July to ban all Indonesian airlines from flying to the 27-nation bloc. The ban was issued after a string of deadly crashes in Indonesia over the past few years, raising serious questions about the government's ability to provide adequate safety measures. "They have met with four Indonesian airlines; Garuda Indonesia, Mandala, Premi Air and Air Fast, just now and they asked the four to make some improvements," director general of air transportation Budhi Suyitno was quoted by local newspaper The Jakarta Post as saying. He added that the four airlines h...

ANALYSIS: EU ban on Indonesian airlines hurting tourism industry
2007-07-29 12:16:00
As the country reels under economic, political and environmental troubles, Indonesia has a new burden to shoulder: an airlines' ban that has a direct impact on its tourism. The European Union officially banned all 51 Indonesian airlines from flying to Europe starting on July 6, while the US Federal Aviation Administration in April declared Indonesia had failed to comply with international safety standards.Although government officials downplayed the impact, the EU's ban has already begun hurting tourism."European Union's airline ban has definitely put a burden on Indonesian tourism, especially now that it's the summer high-season for tourist arrivals," Bali Tourism Board chairman Ngurah Wijaya said. "I know many tourists have cancelled their visits."It will not only effect tourist arrivals, but will also hurt Indonesia's economy, because it will decrease hotel occupancy rates, souvenir sales, and other things related to tourism," Wijaya said.He explained that since Bali has an ...
EU sanction on Indonesian airlines -- some legal obligations
2007-06-29 00:56:00
I forgot to mention one legal obligation that can be derived from the sanction: a travel agent operating in EU territory would be obliged to inform the passengers if they are booking non-favoured airlines. Imagine what the effect would be for Indonesian tourism industry.
Indonesian airlines 'punished' by the EU
2007-06-28 23:40:00
European Union is a standard-freak, we all know that. They regulate everything from the amount of detergents allowed to be spilled into sewerage to the position of labels in wine bottles. These regulations are good, they ensure safety and consumer protection, for EU citizens. But hey, the EU also has a substantial "market power", they can also regulate foreign private parties to comply with their laws. If you want to land on our airports, make sure you comply with our safety standards, otherwise, get the hell outta here. Nice:All Indonesian airlines including national carrier Garuda are to be banned from the European Union. "European citizens should avoid flying with these carriers," an EU official said. "They are really unsafe."The new list, decided upon following advice from an EU air safety committee, is expected to be formalised within a week. Garuda flew to Rome and Amsterdam until 2005, and is planning to resume services to Amsterdam in 2008.The idea or regulating things based ...
EU bans all Indonesian airlines
2007-06-28 10:40:00
All Indonesian airlines including national carrier Garuda will be banned from flying to the European Union within a week, the European Commission said today, updating a "blacklist" of carriers deemed unsafe. Indonesian carriers do not currently fly to Europe so the ban is also a warning to the 27-nation EU's consumers and travel agencies not to use the country's airlines, an EU official said. "European citizens should avoid flying with these carriers," the official said. "They are really unsafe." Angola's TAAG Angolan Airlines and Volare Aviation Enterprise of Ukraine would also be banned, the EU executive said. Ten Russian airlines, six from EU member Bulgaria and eight from Moldova will cease operations within the bloc. "The EU blacklist will prove to be an essential tool not only to prevent unsafe airlines from flying to Europe ... but also to make sure that airlines and civil aviation authorities take appropriate actions to improve safety," Transport Commissioner Jacques Barr...
US tells citizens not to fly Indonesian airlines

In a message sent to American citizens in Indonesia today, the US embassy cited an audit by the Indonesian civil aviation agency, which revealed that no airline in Indonesia is in excellent condition."Whenever possible, Americans travelling to and from Indonesia should fly directly to their destinations on international carriers from countries whose civil aviation authorities meet international aviation safety standards,'' the embassy said.
3 Indonesian Airlines Risk Closure
2007-03-22 11:26:00
Regarding the improvement of the safety of Indonesia’s airlines, there seems to be some consequences finally on the way. Indonesia’s Adam Air, Wings Air and Dirgantara Air Service could fall into the Transportation Ministry’s lowest rating category when the results of a recent audit are announced, an official said. “It is possible that those three airlines will ...
