Infineon, Marvell and the iPhone
2008-06-03 16:44:00 Apple is expected to announce the 3G iPhone this month. Based on a reasonable set of assumptions, I have speculated that Infineon (IFX) will continue to be at the heart of the iPhone. Clues that ratify this scenario have also been uncovered in the recent months. Recently, however, there were two industry events that made many question this theory. Here, I will take a look at these events and what they signify for the iPhone. read it here seekingalpha.com

Infineon teams with Intel for high-density (HD) SIM cards
2007-11-13 20:38:00 After buddying up with IBM earlier this year on a 32-nanometer semiconductor, Infineon is now teaming with none other than Intel to produce high-density (HD) SIM cards. Announced today at the Cartes Trade Show in Paris, the agreement will spark a "strategic technology collaboration" which will see Infineon producing modular chip solutions while Intel offers up memory capacities from 4MB to 64MB.More specifically, a 32-bit security microcontroller will be provided by Infineon, while the partnership's other half throws in its "leading-edge flash memory technologies, capabilities and manufacturing." Apparently, the HD SIM will play nice with "data-intensive mobile applications, services and over-the-air downloads" which are likely to become more pervasive in the coming years, and current market research shows that these very devices will account for "six- to eight-percent of the total SIM card market in 2010." As for availability, look for samples to land in Q2 of next year, but don'...

How Infineon will get rid of Qimonda: Fast Track
2007-08-07 00:01:00 Business & Financial Press August 6, 2007 Neubiberg, Germany – August 6, 2007 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX) further specified the divestiture of its interest in Qimonda. Accordingly, Infineon aims to reduce its stake in Qimonda to significantly below 50 per cent not later than by the Annual Shareholder Meeting 2009. The company will continue executing its strategy to reduce its stake through secondary offerings and other capital markets measures. Any cash inflow from such sales is to be used for selective acquisitions to strengthen Infineon's business or to repurchase Infineon shares. The plan also envisages taking all necessary measures at the Annual Shareholder Meeting 2008 required to enable distribution of Qimonda shares as a dividend in kind to Infineon shareholders. Such a dividend would then be possible after the Annual Shareholder Meeting 2009."Carving-out and listing our memory business last year effectiv...

Infineon: Breakout bet in memory chips
2007-05-02 06:00:00 “Infineon Technologies AG (NYSE: IFX) is one of the best performing big cap semiconductor plays, rising from 9 to 16 over the past 12 months,” notes technical analyst Leo Fasciocco. The editor of The Ticker Tape Digest – a service that specializes in finding breakout candidates – says, “The key would be for a move over 16.30, which would then target a move to 20.” “Based in Munich, Germany, Infineon makes computer memory devices. A spin-off from Siemens in 2006, IFX is one of the world's largest chip markets with annual revenues over $10. “The chip maker spun off its Memory Products unit as a stand-alone business, Qimonda. IFX is now focusing on more stable product fields, especially since DRAM prices fell by 50% from 2004 to 2006. “The company makes semiconductors for myriad automotive, computing, communications, and industrial applications.
