2008-06-03 07:01:00 Infiniti G sedan to see improvements for model year 2009, including bigger engine and new gearbox Infiniti confirmed late last month that it would improve its vehicle lineup for launch in the European market, and it looks as though some of those changes to the G sedan will appear in the Japanese automaker's 2009 U.S. lineup. The biggest change will be the G sedan's switch from a 3.5L V6 to a 3.7L unit. Infiniti has yet to release the new engine's output, but a forum member on Motive says the powerplant will kick out 320+ horsepower. Buyers will also have the option to route that power through a new seven-speed automatic gearbox. The U.S.-spec G37 sedan will also adopted its European cousin's larger brake rotors, which will now measure in at 14 inches (calipers will be four-piston units). Infiniti has confirmed that it will take the wraps off the 2008 G37 coupe, which has the BMW 335i in its crosshairs, at the upcoming New York International Auto Show.The G37 is longer, wider and shorter than its predecessor. The G37 ups the ante in the powertrain department over the 2007 Infiniti G35. It moves from a 3.5-liter engine rated at 293 horsepower when mated to a six-speed manual transmission, to the first application of the new VQ37VHR variable valve event and lift 3.7-liter V6. Infiniti says the 3.7-liter engine will produce an estimated 330 horses. Whether it will still be called the G35 or not is unsure, but given the rumored 3.7 liter V-6 that the car will most likely be powered by, I’m thinking more along the lines of G37. From the sketches, it seems Infiniti wants the new coupe to look like a mix between the beautiful Coupe Concept, and the current G35 sedan. 2006-12-03 15:33:02 Infiniti G35 Sedan, VQ35HE engine. Ignore the heavy duty red/black wire to the left - this is power for the auto show so that instruments and the nav system can be run. At first glance, the engine compartment is very similar to the previous gen G35s and 350Z. Updates include the symmetrical intakes, and there is a new and very different intake manifold underneath the cover as well. Speaking of the cover, I'd like to find one of these engines mounted for display, and cutaway to show it's features. The engine is 80% new and is much improved over thew prior generation (of course, the prior generation probably the best V-6 in the world for the past 10 years). Significant updates structurally prepare for the 500+_ HP GT-R engine in 2008. When the 2007 350Z is introduced in January, this engine will be standard. It will also be found in the upcoming 2008 G35 coupe. Variations of it are also found in several Nissan FWD cars and crossovers. |
