The Bug Light God
2008-03-12 14:07:00
The year was 1980. A new decade and a new job. I was 20 years old and was one step into a sojourn that would last several years. As the days got longer and turned into night, us warehouse workers, like moths to a flame, would gravitate toward the almighty bug light. Looking for inner peace, ...
Sentiments on Ripken Being Part of the Baltimore Orioles Inner Sanctum
2008-01-07 16:35:00
As some of you might have seen this weekend, I and Scott Christ of Camden Chat participated in a roundtable on Baseball Digest Daily and discussed the state of the Baltimore Orioles.Scott, I and the moderator, Dave Rouleau, engaged in a few more Q&A questions after the roundtable and one of the topics came up was about Cal Ripken and he possibly being a part owner of the team, or at least in some sort of executive capacity with the organization.I don't think I have ever talked about Cal Ripken at length having a role in running the Baltimore Orioles on the blog, but I might as well add my two cents in.As it is right now, I do not see Peter Angelos selling the team or giving up control because frankly, he needs to go out a winner and not a loser. Right now, as it stands, the Orioles are worth at least $365 million, and the estimates have been as high as $800 million if you factor in MASN (the potential).Obviously, the question is does Cal have the funds or an investment group i...
The Mad Ice Scrapper
2007-12-11 14:58:00
At dinner last night, I was reminded of an event that happened back in the 1970?s. I believe it was the winter of 1976, or maybe 1977. It was a Christmas holiday type event where each neighbor tried to outdo the next in Christmas decorations presentations. Being in the midst of the energy crisis, ...
Bumper Skiing

Bumper Ski, the winter sport of the 1970’s in Youngstown, Ohio A long time ago, (No, this is not a Star Wars Entry) during the winter months in Youngstown, Ohio, we entertained ourselves with a sporting event called bumper skiing. This sport was in no way like bumper bowling where cushions were put ...

2007-12-07 19:17:00
A thumb goes up, A car goes by, Won’t somebody stop and help a guy, Hitchin a ride… What the hell was the toad pull? Well, one summer day the crew was out filling an order in the silver step van. Usually the crew would pull up to the desired trailer or location, the crew would jump out, open ...
Chapter 7 - The Mongoose Is Loose
2007-12-06 16:10:00
The Legendary Mongoose Trap. What is it you ask? Well, the mongoose trap was simply a small wooden box approximately 18 inches square and approximately 12 inches tall. There was a small wire mesh latch on the top of one side that let you see part way into the box. A raggedy old raccoon ...
State Of The Art 8 Track Tape Player
2007-12-05 20:03:00
The Grassy Knoll Institute Stereo System Circa 1981 The stereo system above was my pride and joy in 1981. I bought the system at Custom Sounds, a now defunct “Hip” stereo outlet. There were many choices to consider, many brands, and configurations, but I knew what I wanted. Deep heavy bass ...
Train Jumping
2007-12-05 01:38:00
When I was a young lad, my neighborhood had a train that ran through it. It was right at the top of my street and like a powerful magnet, it attracted me to it. I was warned at a very young age that the train and the tracks were very dangerous and ...
Drivers License Revisited
2007-11-26 19:13:00
The year was 1975. Yes, contrary to popular belief we actually had cars back in those days. It was an era where wagons had simulated wood grain side panels and the 60’s muscle cars ruled the highways. No signs of a minivan, SUV, or a Yugo. It was a time when cars ...
Past Fourth Of July Memories
2007-11-25 23:41:00
Hello, My Name Is LOTGK And I Am A Pyromaniac…. The Fourth of July is dawning and I cannot wait. As an adult, I respect fireworks and the warning labels that come with them. But back in the day, the late 60?s and 70?s fireworks were something different. Sort of a rite of ...
The Rope Trick
2007-11-20 04:41:00
On any given day, when things started slowing down and we were bored, we would spice things up a bit by implementing the rope trick. The rope trick was handed down to me by my older brothers in hopes that one day, their legacy would continue. They even let me jump in once or twice ...
