Mouthshut set to propel Social media interaction, to give free accounts to
2009-07-02 12:10:00
Mouthshut, a pioneer in user generated content is set to change the social media scenario in India as it would soon be doling out free accounts to corporate and brand owners for brand reputation management. Mouthshut initiatives holds weight as it is one of the largest user generated portals in Asia with around 32 lakh registered users. This free service which is slated to be launched by July would surely propel the social media presence of many small businesses which were earlier shying away due to its paid nature. Through the free service site registrants would be allowed to create a brand page on MouthShut and even be allowed to resolve issues and respond to users’ complaints. Farooqui - CEO, Mouthshut said, “We are part of the social media and we will keep innovating to stay ahead of the curve and adapt ourselves to customers’ needs. Read my t-shirt. That's Enough Social Interaction for One Day
2009-05-06 23:36:00
Just because Go Away tee shirt is sold on Think Geek ($15.99), I don't totally agree if someone call my geek friend extremely introvert and hate people's interaction. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Digg's Kevin Rose -- they are not friend, but -- are geek and yet not a loner. But I agree if there are true loners out there who never enjoy social interaction. Ask these people to do anything -- playing solitaire, being a team leader of no one or creating next cool gadgets for themselves -- and they will be more than happy to do so. Anything except doing social things. Well, the only "social" term they know is "social networking sites". If you meet someone wearing this tee, or you are that person, I hope nobody giving more sh*t than they (or you) need. Think Geek's 100% cotton charcoal grey t-shirt with the slogan "You read my t-shirt. That's enough social interaction for one day" helps loners not doing things they (or you) dislike.

Oppositional interaction

Adminstrator's Note: The following is a comment about my "Theory Notecards" installation by RiseInRuin. In addition to its intriguing take on my piece, what makes his/her view even more interesting is that he/she lives in Chicago, has not seen and may never see my Hamiltonian Gallery installation in person. A testament, perhaps, to the "power" of a concept? Regardless, I post it here, with RiseInRuin's permission, [as is, no corrections] in hopes of generating further discussion."I like this. Interactivity, it seems to me, is a process contingent upon varying degrees of opposition. Even if someone were to take action by not acting in any physical way, the words on the block would alter in correspondence to the non-physical-actor?s agreements and disagreements. The dissimilars in that relationship would strengthen each other through the power of thier(sic) disparity. The similarities of the relationship are only similar because of the context of mutual opposition. It is a play o...

alabot: Enabling human interaction with applications
2008-07-04 04:01:00
Now this is a startup which I think really makes life easier for users. Pune based startup alabot aims to bring the power of natural language processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to our regularly used applications like Instant Messengers and Mobile phones. According to Gartner, there are 7 grand challenges facing the IT Industry for which we need solutions. One of them is Non Tactile, Natural Computing Interface. Here is what Gartner has to say: Non Tactile, Natural Computing Interface: The idea of interacting with computers without any mechanical interface has long been a desirable goal in computing. Some of the many challenges that remain in this area include the ability to detect gestures, developing a gesture dictionary and the need for real-time processing. Another set of challenges relate to natural language processing, which include speech synthesis, speech recognition, natural language understanding, natural language generation, machine translation and transl...

Documentation is No Substitute for Interaction
2008-05-14 04:56:00
I’ve long been of the opinion that involving as many stakeholders in the project as early as possible is a key to successful business analysis, and, more importantly, to successful projects, and have said as much in a few of my posts on this site. Jim Highsmith, in the book Agile project management : creating innovative products, thinks that the reason projects tend to have so much documentation and so few results is that: [T]here is a fundamental flaw in many people’s understanding of documentation—documentation is not a substitute for interaction. When a customer and a developer interact to jointly develop specifications and produce some form of permanent record (documents, notes, sketches, feature cards, drawings), the documentation is a by-product of the interaction. When the customer sits down with a product manager and they write a requirements document that gets sent to a development group, then the document has become a substitute for interaction. In the first sce...

New interaction technique for timeline control in video scenes
2008-04-29 23:01:00
Dragon is a research project by Thorsten Karrer, Malte Weiss, and others at the Media Computing Group, RWTH Aachen University in Germany.Objects on video scenes are used to control their trajectories in time, basically any object that appears in the video becomes a slider that can control the video timeline. The project is meant to be a "more" frame-accurate in-scene video navigation than usual systems and during studies users found more natural the use of this video navigation "slider" than traditional timeline sliders. It seems to me a great WYSIWYG for video!->Video AbstractWe present DRAGON, a direct manipulation interaction technique for frame-accurate navigation in video scenes. This technique benefits tasks such as professional and amateur video editing, review of sports footage, and forensic analysis of video scenes.By directly dragging objects in the scene along their movement trajectory, DRAGON enables users to quickly and precisely navigate to a specific point in the vide...

Now You Can Have a Safe Interaction between Your Children and Dogs:
2008-04-04 12:33:00
Dogs are seen as beloved family members worldwide. Yet research shows that young children are at a greater risk from injury resulting from dog bites, than any other age group. Young children are known to treat dogs as playmates and this frequent and close contact can be dangerous at times. Majority of dog bites occur in the home environment while children play with ( - cuddling, hitting, kicking, squeezing, massaging, riding, sitting on, tickling, hugging and pulling ears and tails of ) their beloved pet dog. Research also shows that young children are not good at understanding the body language of dogs. Children more often than not look at the face of their pet dog and have difficulty in distinguishing between fear and friendliness. These days there are many dog bite prevention programmes aimed at teaching children how to behave around dogs, and how to understand them better. Prevention starts at home…and the first step is to educate the parents to create a safe environment for ...

alan cooper and the quest for quality- interaction design

With the web and technology increasingly becoming an ad/brand/media space, we all know what happens next.Cooper's talk revolved around the idea that Interaction Design allows technology companies to inject some quality into their process. The idea is that IDs create the insights, research and smart behavioral understanding create solid blueprints from which to build the first product generation.Cooper was vocal in his critique of companies who rush products to market, just for the sake of being first. Disallow user interaction - Excel VBA
2008-03-03 03:44:00
Allow / Disallow user interaction in Excel VBASub Hold_User_Interaction()Applicat-ion.Interactive = False' Do necessary calculations / processingApplication.Interacti-ve = TrueEnd SubApplication.Interactive is True if Microsoft Excel is in interactive mode; this property is usually True. If you set the this property to False, Microsoft Excel will block all input from the keyboard and mouse (except input to dialog boxes that are displayed by your code). Blocking user input will prevent the user from interfering with the macro as it moves or activates Microsoft Excel objects. Read/write Boolean. Remarks This property is useful if you're using DDE or OLE Automation to communicate with Microsoft Excel from another application. If you set this property to False, don't forget to set it back to True. Microsoft Excel won't automatically set this property back to True when your macro stops running.

The sense of smell in interaction design
2008-02-19 17:53:00
I came across the concept of a Scentsory phone by Nokia on Gadgettastic. The phone uses the human senses of sight, sound, touch and even smell for an ultimate multi-sensory experience. It could detect, transmit and emit smells, as well as radiate colors, lighting, and temperature from the caller’s environment. Its electronic nose works with highly sophisticated (i.e. unknown) sensors. The nose samples the odor of the caller’s environment and transmits this to the recipient electronically. Nokia Scentory PhoneSmells' detection and re-creation is a fascinating topic today most probably because it is still very hard to achieve technically. Last year I started developing the Odora Storyteller, a smell collector. It encompasses the experience of the everyday collector and creates an associative memory of smells, places and objects. The prototype was conceived for children to collect samples from their environment. The children can reveal and create associative connection between sme...

Health management Interaction in Small Animals
2008-02-10 07:15:00
Proper management to prevent and control disease has historically been a higher priority in large animal medicine than in small animal medicine. However, appropriate management is just as important for small animals, whether their environment is that of a single or multiple-pet home or a more intensive housing situation such as a kennel or cattery.Responsible pet ownership must be emphasized to all those owning and considering owning pets. Areas of client education that should be emphasized include the following:routine care and grooming, preventive health care, parasite control, nutrition, household hazards, housing requirements and environmental factors.Routine care and grooming not only help maintain pet health but also allow identification of health problems early in the course of disease. Close observation of pets allows for evaluation of changes in appetite, thirst, urination, defecation, ambulation, and general behavior. Any changes may suggest the need for a more thorough ex...
