The Best Weight Loss Exercise: Interval Training
2008-12-23 08:07:00 The Best Weight Loss Exercise: Interval Training was written by David McCormick from weightlessproducts.comIf you have read my article called Exercise: Essential, then you can skip down to the next section, called How to do Interval Training. Read on if you need a reminder of the basic principles of exercise for weight loss. Skip to the bottom to find a link to the whole article on Exercise.Aerobic exercise is fat burning exercise. As you do some activity using large muscles (legs, especially) that raises your heart rate but still allows you to breathe normally, your body will burn fat with the oxygen you're breathing. However, your body will only burn blood-sugar at first, because it's easily available. So, to get to the fat-burning stage, you have to exercise for at least 20 minutes, preferably 30 minutes or more. Walking and bicycling at a gentle pace are examples of aerobic activities. Read more in my article on Aerobics.Anaerobic exercises are high-intensity exercises that ge...

Interval Training
2008-05-20 17:19:00 I realize as I set here with shaking limbs and tired muscles that I have been experiencing interval training for the past 6 months. Only it’s disguised as Martial Arts. Interval training, for those that aren’t familiar is when you combine aerobic workout with strength training - at intervals. Interval training has been around for literally decades. Do any of you recall in gym class when they would have you run laps, then stop and do sit ups or push ups then run more laps? That was early day interval training. Only back then, it was called physical fitness. Nothing fancy. Jillian Michaels uses interval training in all of her workouts. You jump around like a freak, then drop and do ab work, then get up and jump around again. Over and over and over until you feel like you are going to keel over. I have to say, that for a spazoid like me, interval training ROCKS! It keeps things from being boring. It keeps me entertained and distracted while I work out. It’s hard to not be dist...

Spring is Here - Time for Interval Training!
2008-04-08 06:02:00 Spring is here…probably my favorite time to run. Not only is the weather great - except for the occasional spring downpour - but this is the time of year when the local running club I belong to, Rocky Mountain Road Runners, starts doing weekly track workouts. The group that shows up for track is generally pretty diverse. There’s a pretty broad age range - last week there were high school age kids there, and we’ve also had 60+ year olds show up for workouts. The pace ranges are pretty broad too, from the folks that often place in the top few in their age groups, to the upper-midpackers like me, and sometimes even a few folks that are slower than me. Usually there are at least a couple of people that are about my pace. The format is pretty similar every week - we start with a few laps of warming up on our own, and then get together for a few drills. Then, the intervals start - this workout varies every week, depending upon what the group leaders have planned. Last...

Burn More Calories With Interval Training
2008-04-04 06:03:00 The basic weight loss nuts and bolts behind cardiovascular exercise (or any kind of exercise, really) is, as you know, a matter of catabolism.Essentially, if you can engineer your body to require more energy, your body will comply by breaking cells down to deliver it; and that process (metabolism) burns calories. Simple, right? So based on that logic, something called interval training neatly fits in with the overall plan. Interval training is simply a adding high-energy burning component to your exercise plan on an infrequent, or interval, basis. For example, you may be at a stage where you can jog for 20 minutes every other day, and thus put your heart into a cardiovascular zone during this time. This, obviously, is going to help you boost your metabolism and thus burn calories/energy. Yet you can actually burn disproportionately more calories if, during that 20 minute jog, you add a 30 second or 1 minute sprint. Why? Because during this 30 seconds or 1 minute, you give your body ...

2007-07-21 00:00:00 Benefits of Cardio Interval Training In a long-term study of the health of the people of in the United States, the U.S. Public Health Service documented the chances of developing heart disease among various groups in the population. Long before the any symptoms appeared, epidemiological research could identify high-risk groups. Among the highest risk factors are male sex, age over 35, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, high levels of certain blood fats, and a family history of cardiovascular disorders. Other researchers have added to this list another risk factor: the compulsive, hard-driving, highly anxious personality. The greater the number of severity, the greater the person’s overall risk.
