Government Resources for Inventors
2008-04-03 00:00:00
Inventing can be tough, dirty (through enthralling) work. Fortunately, inventors do not have to go it alone! As it turns out, the government makes certain resources available for inventors to use in their efforts. These resources can come in the form of grants (money) and information. Whichever type of resource you are seeking, you would ...
Why Paranoid Inventors Fail
2008-03-31 07:00:00
Every inventor knows that it’s a mistake to go around bragging about your idea to everyone who will listen. Careless mistakes should obviously be avoided. However, there is another kind of inventor who commits just the opposite mistake, and suffers the same failure. That mistake is paranoia. It is an irrational, unfounded fear of everyone ...
New Technology Development Steps for Inventors
2008-03-31 07:00:00
Developing new technology is, as Edison once said, “one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” It makes sense when you consider what technology really is: technique. It is, at root, a new way of doing something; presumably a way that never existed before someone painstakingly established it. Since developing new technology is hard work, it ...

Top 10 Black Inventors
2008-01-21 15:56:00
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, I wanted to post a list of some famous African-American inventors and their patents. There obviously may be some disagreement as to who should, and who should not, make the list of famous African-American inventors. I have tried to include not only those who have contributed to mankind as a whole, but also those African-American inventors we know from other endeavors, or from the fun things they have brought to our lives. 10)Thomas Mensah Dr. Mensah is the Chairman of Supercond Technology Inc. of Norcross, Georgia. Judge Prevents Patent Office From Punishing Inventors
2007-11-02 15:01:00
I have written several times about the Patent Office's recent attempts to restrict inventors' protections under the patent laws. On Wednesday, the day before the new rules were to take effect, Judge James C. Cacherisi, of the Eastern District of Virginia, shut them down.Over the strenuous objections of the Patent Office, Judge Cacherisi allowed amici (friend of the court) briefs from several entities bashing the Patent Office's new rules. Of particular note was the declaration of former Patent Office Director, Harry F. Manbeck, explaining why the new rules are illegal. The Judge actually relied on Mr. Manbeck's declaration in rendering the decision. Most importantly, Judge Cacherisi's ruling stopped the new patent rules from taking affect yesterday. The Judge held that the Patent Office's restrictions on the number of patent claims and number of continuations that an inventor could file appeared to be beyond the Patent Office's authority. The Judge also found that the new Pat...

Inventors Protest Patent Reform Bill
2007-09-21 15:34:00
narramissic writes “A group of inventors and U.S. company execs, among them Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway and the AutoSyringe, and Steve Perlman, inventor of WebTV and lead developer of Apple Inc.’s QuickTime, paid a visit to Washington to encourage Congress to defeat the Patent Reform Act. The inventors say the Act will weaken the patent system, devalue patents, and encourage infringement. A version of the act, which passed the House of Representatives earlier this month, is supported by several large tech vendors including Microsoft, IBM, and Cisco. The big companies hope it will make it harder for patent holders to sue and collect huge damage awards when only a small piece of a tech product is found to infringe.”Read more of this story at Slashdot.
