2008-02-05 17:41:00
Here is the video that brought up the issue of AT&T trying to be the net police that might hurt VoIP IP Telephony and Unified Communications due to inherent fact that it will slow down the network, disregarding the other issues that this brings out such as net neutrality. I am on an AT&T network because I have been happy with my services since I joined them in the days of Pacbell, about 20 years ago, and at least 12 years of broadband services.I think the VoIP News has a very good article on this same issue so I will guide you over there. Here is the infamous movie made by Richard Blakeley, and Joel Johnson of Boing Boing doing the interview. Now you seen the movie, here is the story at VoIP News.tag: net neutrality, ATT, Pacbell, VoIP IP Telephony, VoIPCopyright © 2005-2008 SnapVoip, Published by snapvoip.blogspot.com. Sipera VIPER Lab determined the Top 5 VoIP Vulnerabilities for 2007 were:1) Remote eavesdropping of VoIP phone calls, a practice that is exponentially easier in VoIP than with traditional PSTN telephone networks, and which represents a major breach of enterprise communications and security.2) VoIP Hopping, one of the enablers of remote eavesdropping, but more critically compromises VLANs, that were previously trusted as providing VoIP security, by enabling a PC to mimic an IP phone so hackers can access VoIP systems.3) Vishing, the practice of VoIP phishing, which enables hackers to spoof caller ID and present a fraudulent phone identity, causing some consumers to share sensitive, personal information, such as credit card numbers, with hackers masquerading as banking representatives.4) Toll fraud, which allows unauthorized users to access enterprise VoIP networks and make calls, increasing VoIP costs and traffic. While there was a much publicized case in 2006, when the FBI charged t...

2007-09-11 06:21:00
Mr.Shinji Usuba, General Manager of eSound Venture Unit, Business Incubation Division, Systems Network Group at Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd, has written a long article, actually a series of articles, about OKI's venture into VoIP IP Telephony. So far he has written 12 parts or columns as he would like to call them.I landed at Mr.Usuba's article while trying to find information on oki's participation in Japan Fair in Guandong, China. Now that is another article.(Just the news release!).What interests me in the series of articles is that it is about the same time I started on VoIP, actually on data compression. We had two 64KB DS0 and a Frame Relay international line carrying data and voice to a country far away. The lines were so expensive we had to make full use of the lines just to stay afloat. So with our compression scheme, we were able to sell voice lines to one of the big bells! Then came OpenH323 (now at Sourceforge) and worked on that and the gatekeeper, the opengatekeep...
Unified Communications in Business
2007-09-08 02:41:00
Most organisations view VOIP and Internet Protocol (IP) communications systems as merely replacement solutions for traditional PBX systems, in a strategy to reduce infrastructure and call costs, says Deon Scheepers, technology solutions director at Atio. But the convergence of all communications on Internet Protocol (IP) networks and open software platforms has enabled a new paradigm to emerge that is changing the way individuals, groups and organisations communicate. He says IP-based communications systems now integrate previously separate silos of communications, such as telephony and voicemail with e-mail, calendars and directories; mobile devices, such as cellphones, PDAs and smartphones; and back-office processes, such as ERP, CRM and workforce management to provide next-generation unified communications (UC) solutions.UC is changing the way we communicate, operate and service business communications in the enterprise, he says. Regardless of the size of the business, the ability ...
